Hells Canyon that is! Traveling to Hat Point is not for the faint of heart or two wheel drive cars, but it is well worth the time and effort to make the trip. If you do you'll be rewarded with exceptional views down to the bottom of Hells Canyon where the Snake River has carved it's way through thousands of feet of rock. Hells Canyon is North America's deepest river gorge and encompasses a vast and remote region with dramatic changes in elevation, terrain, climate and vegetation. Aug 13, 2013 - Hat point idaho
We've traveled maybe 30 miles as the crowflies but 75 miles by truck. We biked 9 miles down the road where we camped this morning and then decided to drive on to Imanaha and Hat Point. We were in Imnaha20 yrs ago and stopped at the same tavern for a beer. Nothings changed! Drove on up 18 miles on the dirt road towards hat point where there is a fs lookout tower. Stopped at saddlecreek campground that has a beautiful view looking back at Idaho and hells canyon . Great free place to stay and see a wonderful sunset!Jump to full entry
Jul 24, 2007 - Imnaha and Halfway
July 24, We are headed to Imnaha today, it is a real small town 30 miles northeast of Joseph. It is on the Nez Perce Trail and was the tail followed by Chief Joseph and the Nez Perce Indians on the flight for survival in 1877. The town is really small with the main attraction being the Store, It is 103 year old and is the grocery, the hardware, and the souvenir store as well as the tavern and restaurant. It has a wood floor, is heated with a fire in an old oil barrel and sports a hand made sign on the current count of rattlesnakes killed so...Jump to full entry
