Jul 18, 2017 - Oregon Coastal Trail

It is very different to walk the Oregon Coast vs. an eastern beach. I love them both! After my walk and a shower, I came into town for a dinner of fish and chips at The Crazy Norwegian. Yum! There is no Internet service in the campground so I am just posting pictures tonight while I am in town (Port Orford, population 1,170), then heading back for sunset on the beach. Enjoy! I am!

May 11, 2016 - The Redwoods

On Wednesday, our sixth straight day of sunshine, we took a trip south into California to view the famous coastal redwoods. This turned out to be our second unscheduled trip to a National Park. The park is actually a series of locations along the coast, mostly between Crescent City and Eureka. We learned that this is not really a user friendly park. What it is, is several tracts of old growth trees that have been set aside for preservation, not really for tourist visitation. There are several groves of the ancients you can get to. We did...

May 10, 2016 - Sunset Beach SP, Shore Acres SP and Cape Arago

Tuesday, our fifth straight day of unfiltered sun, we took a drive north on 101 to check out the state park that I had visited many years ago. As well as camping, there is a nice nine hole golf course to play. But we were here for the scenery and did we get a full dose of that. The thick woods run right down to the high tide line. The coves are sand bottomed and protected from the pounding surf by beautiful rock formations and reefs. The special treat of the day was a pair of whales feeding just off shore from the low rock cliff below us....

May 9, 2016 - Hah Humbug!

Yesterday after a good workout driving twisting and plunging roads we arrived at Humbug Mountain State Park. I have a long history with this little gem on the rugged Pacific coastline of Oregon. I was literally blown in here during a dark and stormy night in the early 70’s. I was in a VW camper van. Boy! Have things changed. What hasn’t changed is the beauty of this little campground. The campground is nestled between two small mountains alongside a creek that empties into the ocean. We have our own private beach of a little over a quarter...

Jun 21, 2008 - Humbug State Park Oregon

Humbug State Park – Oregon Finally we’re out of California. We had planned to go to Crater Lake but they were mostly snowed in up there so we stayed on the coast and ended up at Humbug State Park for a day that turned into three. The kids met several other kids and played with them a lot while in the campground. They especially liked playing with Hunter who was from Gold Beach which was 20 miles south of the campground. We hiked Humbug Mountain the first day through forested and fern-ed terrain. The trail left from the campground and...

We're in Oregon at Humbug State Park. Sorry we're so far behind in the blog. We will update it as soon as we get a lengthy access to the internet. Ahh yes, that's the excuse. We haven't had good access to the inet! :-) Since our last update we have been to" San Francisco Sacremento Sonoma Albion River MacKerricher State Park Redwood NP area and now Oregon. Bruce's allergies have been killing him since we hit Redwood NP, the kids haven't broken any bones, Cindy has had a couple of showers, we have caught and eaten Dungeness crab, spotted...
