Mar 31, 2010 - Goodbye California, Hello Oregon
We left Trinidad, California passing through the Redwood National Park. We drove along the coast and through redwood forests. We stopped for lunch at an overlook just above Crescent City the last town in California. We crossed into Oregon and moored up for the next few days at Harris Beach State Park near Brookings. It was a glorious afternoon so we decided to explore some of the trails in the park. Unlike California in Oregon Jenny was allowed on the trials. We had a great walk in the sunshine.Jump to full entry
Mar 23, 2009 - Harris Beach State Park
Today we drove about 5 miles north to visit Harris Beach State Park. We passed it on the way to Brookings while driving the motorhome and planned to go back to visit later in our car. I am glad we did, it was fabulous! Harris Beach features a rocky coastal area and has both day use and overnight sections. Towering above the day use area is a large campground with tent sites, campsites, RV sites hiker/biker sites and yurts. The campground site is forested and has large private sites, a few with great views of the Pacific. The day use segment...Jump to full entry
Nov 10, 2007 - Big Trees, Dunes and Ocean - South Coast of Oregon
The Oregon Coast features a mix of rocky beaches, high cliffs with small rock islands just offshore, big crashing waves, and sandy beaches and small or massive dunes. Just next to the coast are impressive mountains and old growth forest with groves of Sitka Spruce, Shore Pine, Douglas Fir, Coastal Redwood, Sequoia. Some of these trees are hundreds or ever over a thousand years old! These are all quite special to look at but a highlight for us was the dunes. Not just any dunes though. In the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, there is a...Jump to full entry
Sep 14, 2007 - Pacific Ocean Sunset!
This is our last day in Harris Beach. We've been here a week and are ready to move on...so, today we did laundry and packed up. We've really enjoyed our stay here. Had great day trips, ate good food, met some interesting locals in Brookings, OR. I saw a shirt in a gift shop which said "Brookings, OR...a quaint drinking town with a fishing problem." Pretty much but they said it, not me! The weather all week has been kinda chilly and overcast. We started to miss the sun again...but today is was bright and warm. After running a few errands we...Jump to full entry

Sep 10, 2007 - Drive through the Redwoods...
Today we drove south to the National Redwood Forest in Northern California! These trees are monstrous! We saw trees that were over a 1,000 years old. You really feel small standing next to these enormous trees! After a long day of exploring, Olie made us a wonderful steak dinner on the campfire for my birthday! Everyones loving phone calls and birthday wishes made this a super day!Jump to full entry
Sep 8, 2007 - Headed further down Hwy 101, OR Coast
Last night we spent hours on the dark beach stargazing! It was pitch black and I haven't seen so many stars in one place ever. It seemed like they were multiplying right before our eyes. Thank goodness for a clear night sky! Today we packed up and left Beachside State Park. We both could have stayed much longer...We headed farther south on Hwy 101 along the coast. The rocks and ocean are a perfect backdrop to the drive. There were times we were so high up and the Pacific Ocean seemed to go on for eternity. We arrived in the evening to...Jump to full entry
