Aug 11, 2011 - Day 48-Home at last.
Well, I said that the steak last night was almost inedible and that I probably shouldn't have finished it. It turns out that that would have been a great idea. After I finished yesterday's episode for this journal, I really wasn't feeling well. I felt almost sick to the stomach and really bloated. I went to bad but that didn't last long. I was up about 2:00 a.m. with a serious version of Montezuma's Revenge (without the benefit of having gone to Mexico). In the morning, when it was still seriously bothering me, Suzi gave me some of her...Jump to full entry
Jun 23, 2011 - The night before the big adventure begins
Well, we have pretty much spent the last day and a half packing the motor home for the big trip. We did take time out to go see the production of "Mary Poppins" with Kevin, Sarah and Kaila. It was a great show and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Kaila was mesmerized and really love it. It was almost as much fun watching her as watching the show. All we have left to do in the morning is take out the stuff that we will be using tonight and hook up the dolly and load the car. We are taking Suzi's Vibe so that we will have alternate transportation...Jump to full entry
Jun 15, 2011 - Final Preparation Week
We are just entering the final week of preparation for our upcoming trip. This is probably more of a worry for us than many since we have never made this kind of trip before. We are putting together menus to cover those overnighters when we won't be spending so much time preparing meals. We are also listing those staples that we will want to have on board, including equipment, utensils, etc., etc. We will be leaving the morning of the 24th and that day is arriving much faster than we anticipate. We will be at a concert the night before so...Jump to full entry
May 17, 2010 - Oregon
Oregon, here we come. Left out from Eureka, CA bright and early, as we are prone to do in our travels. Heading up the coast of Cali until we cross over at Grants Pass. This route took us up through the Redwood National Forest. We stopped at the visitor center and got our official park stamp. Took some pictures and then headed right back out. As we drove up through the forest / park, we saw some amazingly beautiful views of the coast and cliffs and trees. Here is an interesting fact for you. Coastal Redwoods grow taller than the Sequoia...Jump to full entry
Jul 30, 2009 - Portland, Ore.
You can tell we’re getting anxious to get home. Our sightseeing was short today. We fit in a little more relaxation. We let the boys sleep in; there was no hotel breakfast deadline. Everyone had a relaxing morning. Brock got his favorite sourdough toast. Evan had his four bowls of Honey Nut Cheerios. We made and drank a full pot of drip coffee. Ahhhh. Midmorning, we headed to downtown Portland, about a 20-minute drive from my cousin’s house in Gresham. We parked near the Willamette River and walked several blocks uptown to Powell’s Books,...Jump to full entry
Jul 29, 2009 - Boardman to Gresham, Ore.
We’ve got a house to ourselves! My cousin Angie and her family are vacationing up at our grandpa’s old cabin in Arnold, and we’re staying at her house in Gresham, Ore., (near Portland) for two nights. It’s a shame that we’re missing each other, and nice of them to let us stay anyway. The Pacific Northwest is unseasonably hot, however. Seattle just had its hottest day on record (102). I think it was 103 here today. Until now, we’ve been really fortunate with the weather. We didn’t have unbearable heat or humidity in the east. We had a little...Jump to full entry
