Jun 24, 2017 - Oregon Coast Train Ride

We traveled down the Northern Oregon coast today to catch a train in Garibaldi. The train ride was only 90 minutes long with a 1/2 hour stop in Rockaway Beach. So happens Rockaway Beach was having a Pirate Festival, so we walked around and got a few pictures. Paul found a friend. So glad we took this trip to get out of the heat - it's 94 degrees here today. I think it was cooler at home in South Carolina. That will teach me to complain about Seattle's weather.

May 5, 2016 - beauty and the beast

The drive to the Tillamook area was atypical in some ways. At first we got stuck behind a wide load trailer carrying equipment which was much wider than the lane it was traveling in. We drove behind it for about half and hour, which gave us plenty of time to figure out that it must be a crane for loading huge logs onto truck beds. At first we were irritated that it was going so slowly and impossible to pass, but it really didn’t go much slower than we would have gone ourselves. We began to appreciate how approaching traffic came to a total...

Sep 4, 2014 - Northhead Lighthouse & Tillamook Cheese Factory

This morning we left Forks and rode down HWY 101 in Washington to its southern border. Always interested in lighthouses, we stopped at Cape Disappointment to see the North Head Lighthouse and the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse which was commissioned in 1856. It is the oldest light house in Washington State. However, there was quite a hike to see the Cape Disappointment Lighthouse so, due to a shortage of time, we skipped it, but did visit the Northhead lighthouse. North Head Lighthouse has sixty-nine steps up to the lantern room, which is...

Jun 22, 2013 - Garibaldi Update

We've had a great stay here in Garibaldi seeing some of the sites/places the area offers. Oh ya, the seafood!! Went to Rockaway Beach (6 miles N.) the other day and the pups had a blast. Just have to say the word 'beach' and they are ready to go. Rockaway Beach is well known for having seven miles of sandy shoreline which is why it is one of the most popular vacation destinations of the Oregon coast. Visited Cape Meares Lighthouse also during the week. Captain John Meares was the first to sail into Tillamook Bay, naming it Quick Sand Bay...

Jun 17, 2013 - Garibaldi, OR

We arrived in Garibaldi just North of Tillamook yesterday after about an 85 mile drive up the 101 that took 2.5 hours. Curvy road with a lot of 35mph turns but a beautiful drive. Harbor View RV Park is located at the Marina and Boat launch at historic Garibaldi Harbor, gateway to the Pacific. Picturesque views of Tillamook Bay and the marina and only 300 feet from the boat launch. Walking distance to the harbor, restaurants, museums, antique shops. Across the street at the Garibaldi Marina, you can rent crab rings, boats and fishing...

May 7, 2012 - Getting Ready and A Phone Call

Garibaldi, OR. 44 deg. clear, no wind. Forecast = Partly cloudy. Fog early. High of 57F. Winds from the NNW at 5 to 15 mph. Not a whole lot happening around here yesterday. Jim and Linda have been doing some cleaning inside of me so I look presentable when I meet Jeff and Heather. During the middle part of the day, Jim watched the NASCAR race on TV, went up to the Registration Booth and payed for another night so we can stay here until Tuesday, took a little nap, and then cooked a couple of burgers out on his grill. Oh, and Jeff called to...

May 6, 2012 - A Trip Into Town and A Few CG Photos

Garibaldi, OR 39 deg. clear, no wind. Forecast = Partly cloudy. High of 54F. Breezy. Winds from the North at 10 to 20 mph. Except Jim and Linda taking CLT and going to a bakery in Garibaldi yesterday, nothing much happened. So, , , , , I thought I'd post a few photos that Jim took of the campground. First though, I'd better try to make it clear just where this park actually is. If you look in one CG Book, it'll say that this park is in Garibaldi. In another one it'll say Barview. In fact, the mailing address for this park is Garibaldi, but,...

May 5, 2012 - Lincoln City to Garibaldi and The Eraser Again

Garibaldi, OR. 39 deg. clear, NE wind @ 5 mph. Forecast = Mostly cloudy in the morning, then partly cloudy. High of 55F. Winds from the WNW at 5 to 15 mph. It was raining off and on yesterday morning, so Jim did the outside things, to get ready to travel, in between showers. We probably would have left a little earlier than we did, but some of the showers lasted for awhile. The way it was, we did manage to pull out of the park in Lincoln City at 10:05. Then it was Northbound on US 101 again, through a couple of twisty-turny hilly sections,...

May 16, 2007 - North to Garibaldi, Oregon

The Old Mill RV Park in Garibaldi, Oregon was at one time a county park that has now gone private. It has a LOT of potential but has a long way to go. Utilities are all old, the interior roads dirt with a lot of dust, and there are a number of permanent residents with real dumper rigs on the property. The permanents allow their dogs to run loose. On the plus side, this is a beautiful location on the edge of Tillamook Bay in a nice old small town with hills in the background. It is located several hundred yards from Hwy 101 and is very...
