Jun 17, 2012 - Newberry National Volcanic Monument

Newberry National Volcanic Monument is an area we've been in before & have even posted. But this time we took in the Big Obsidian Flow (of course we took a quick look at Paulina Lake & East Lake), the last time we were here the lakes had lots of ice on them.

Jun 15, 2012 - Went here, Went There

Over the course of a few days, we've been running around taking in some sights & doing a little fishing. We took a drive up to Davis Lake, Smith Rock State Park, Journeyed down to Eugene, fished on Lava Lake & took a drive to Klamath Falls. We viewed the Fall River Falls (we took Sadie to the falls with us....there was lots there for her to smell). On the way back from the Falls, we dropped Sadie off at the groomers....she really needed a bath big time.

Oct 1, 2011 - Change of Plans

We moved to the small town of Crescent yesterday, coming from Florence. All 163 miles was through forest. We started at sea level and ended up going to 5,000’ and then back down to 4455’. It was a pleasant drive with the trees thinning as we got away from the coast. The campground we wanted to stay in was full so we went to the other one in town. It was a small campground with about a fourth of the spots taken by long term campers. We are right in town along the main drag. Crater Lake is about 55 miles away and we are headed there after 2...

Sep 2, 2011 - Crescent, Oregon

On the 31st we moved a whole 96 miles over to Crescent, Oregon & yes to one of our favorite RV Parks (Big Pines). We decided to stay for a week, hope to get in at least one day of fishing & some more sight seeing. We did not want to be on the road over the Labor Day Week-end....so this is a great place to be. We are now winding down our travels & slowly working our way back down to Arizona. Pete has his pre-op scheduled at the VA on Sept. 26th, so we do need to start back. We've been here for two nights, the first night Pete had to...

Jul 22, 2011 - Crescent, OR Temp 80

We drove about 25 miles from La Pine to Crescent. We set up the RV, had a quick lunch and then set out to see Crater Lake. The same Crater Lake current heard about in cell phone commercial that is the deepest (maximum depth has been measured at 1,949 feet) lake in the United States. Crater Lake is a caldera lake. It is the main feature of Crater Lake National Park and famous for its deep blue color and water clarity. The lake partly fills a nearly 2,148 foot deep caldera that was formed around 7,700 years ago by the collapse of the volcano...

Apr 22, 2010 - Oh No Snow !

Yesterday we woke up to snow on the ground......it was only 2 to 3", so it wasn't bad, just cold. We have been closed in for a couple of days (Pete's still having computer issues & has been on the phone with Dell). We also have a rental truck right now, we're having some work done to the truck. Dell was going to call Pete after 12:00pm today, so this morning we took a short little drive just to get out of the house. We have one more week here in Crescent (we're leaving for Eugene, Or. on the 30th). We hope to get out & do a little more...

Apr 16, 2010 - Crescent, Oregon

We left Redding, Ca. this morning at 9:00 am & drove 5 hours up to Crescent, Oregon for a two week stay at Big Pines RV Park. We love this park & always seem to stop here every time we enter Oregon. We plan on looking for Geocache & doing some more sightseeing while we're here. Our drive here was uneventful (which is a good thing), the sky was cloudy & occassionally we'd see some sunshine. All in all, it was a good trip.

July 22, July 28 – August 1, 2009 This is the final chapter on this area. Old Mill Shopping District and Deschutes River Trail System, Bend, OR The Old Mill shopping area is located in downtown Bend along the Deschutes River. It’s a lovely shopping area adjacent to the Deschutes River (biking/walking) Trail System. It was fun watching the rafters floating...

Jul 26, 2009 - Crescent-2, OR

It continues to be very hot here, breaking some records. There are several new forest fires, so far under control, breaking out around us. We continue to do our activities early in the morning to avoid the heat. But still are having fun exploring the area. Newberry National Volcanic Monument, La Pine, OR On our way we stopped at the Crane Prairie Reservoir to snap a couple of pictures. A drive to the summit area is within a 17 sq mile caldera (crater) at the summit of a 500 sq mile volcano, a volcano that remains very active to this day....
