May 29, 2020 - Out for a drive on Hwy 19

Pete & I took a drive up Hwy 19, it was such a beautiful drive. Eventually we ended up at Cougar Reservoir. The Highway was winding & at times was under a canopy of trees....love those pine trees & aspens. The road is paved but there are patches of gravel & some rough spots, the views are worth the drive for sure. Cougar Reservoir: The Reservoir is on the South Fork of the McKenzie River (in the Willamette National Forest). Cougar Dam primarily generates hydroelectricity & controls flooding.

May 7, 2020 - Return to Crescent, Oregon

Repairs on the 5th-wheel are done (we did have to replace a handle on a valve) it seemed it fell off somewhere on the highway...thats a first. We couldn't drain the bathroom sink/shower tank without it...lol ! Now we are back in Crescent....we had to leave here early last summer for medical reasons. So we're back ! So happy to be here .... and yes ...we're at Big Pines RV Park. We love it here, since 2006 we have been here every year except for two. Bruce & Donna (the owners) run a great park, if your ever pulling a rig this way....pop in...

Jul 18, 2019 - Update to the last update

Last December Pete had swelling in his right foot, it was thought to be cellulitis & treated accordingly. In the last two weeks we have been to the emergency room twice.seems that the right foot was swelling again & is accompanied by pain. Fast forward to today, our visit to the emergency room turned into an admittance into the hospital for surgery. The doctors are looking for the root of his issue, it's not gout, not cellulitis & they have ruled out a few other things. Anyways the surgery was performed on his right ankle (fluid was pulled...

Jul 5, 2019 - Update

Well, we were going to leave Big Pines RV Park on the 15th of July. We had reservations at Wild Horse Casino for a weeks stay. Our change in plans is due to Pete's stiff neck issues, he's going to a chiropractor & there is some progress, but Pete needs more treatments to get him back to where he can function without stiffness & pain. So we are extending our stay here in Crescent.

Jun 7, 2019 - A ride up the Cascade Highway

On Thursday we were happy to be joined by friends Joe & Julie (they winter in Picacho also). Today the four of us took a drive up the Cascade Highway, it was such a beautiful drive & a cold one. It's June & winter made an appearance today, we were snowed on. Got out of the truck a few times to take some photos (I know....no big surprise). Tomorrow we will head up to Newberry Caldera to show Joe & Julie the views there.

Oct 3, 2018 - Big Pines RV Park is Expanding

Big Pines RV Park is in the middle of expanding, they are adding over 30 sites. So Pete has jumped in to help (as he loves to do when we are here). He enjoys working along side of Bruce, there's a lot of joking & razzing that goes on...but....when it comes to getting the work done, they definitely get the job done. It's been quite a team effort with Bruce, Bruce's Son Bob & his Dad Elmer. They've been digging trenches, laying pipes & whatever it is they need to do. When this expansion is done ....it will be awesome !!

Oct 3, 2018 - A Drive to the Lower Deschutes River

It been awhile since I have posted to the web site, we are still in Crescent, Oregon. Pete & I have done a little fishing, some shopping & enjoying a few meals out. We did take a drive to the Lower Deschutes River off of Highway 197. We took this drive on Sept. 5th, I know I've waited a bit before posting this, but I've been dragging my feet. The road that runs along the river starts out as asphalt then turns to a washboard dirt road. The mountain sides were like mounds of rocks fused together, really cool looking. Pete was expecting to...

Aug 16, 2017 - McKenzie Pass

Took a drive out to McKenzie Pass, took Hwy 20 through the town of Sisters then hooked it onto Hwy 242 to McKenzie Pass. On the way we saw smoke up on a mountain side....spooky sight. The drive up to the pass was beautiful, we were told from a couple of campers here in Big Pines that we should visit an old Observatory in this area. Glad we went, its really a cool area and is in the middle of a lava flow.
