Nov 5, 2015 - 3 Days to looking younger

Corning to Chowchilla to Bakersfield to Fountain of Youth We are certainly glad these days of driving have been uneventful. The further south we travel the less greenery we see and the more sand we see. Last year Brian wanted to make it to Fountain of Youth as fast as possible and therefore we skipped Chowchilla altogether and had long days of driving. This year we are sticking to the plan and stopped at The Lakes RV Park in Chowchilla. The spot has green grass where Maggie does her business and the foliage has flowers. We did not, repeat...

Nov 2, 2015 - Les Schwab & forward

Les Schwab Previously told you we spent the nite in the parking lot at Les Schwab Tires. Brian did walk over to the front door to check what time they opened, 7:30am. We were up before 7am and waiting for the employees to arrive. The tire repair guy took a look and recommended a new tire, I also wanted him to check all the other tires. As you could see we needed one new tire, NOT!! While the other tires didn't show a great deal of wear they were the original tires and 10 years old. In tire years that's old! So 6 brand new tires later and a...

Oct 23, 2015 - It comes in 3s

Here are a few pictures of our trip so far. We left Prince George on 3 October and planted ourselves just outside of Chilliwack for a couple of weeks prior to heading south. The weather wasn't too bad with only few days in which it poured rain all day. Meeting up with friends for wing nite at the pub is always a great time. We discovered a pub 1km from the RV park where you can get a burger for $2 on Tuesdays, no its not a typo. Do you believe we didn't golf in the 2 weeks we stayed in Chilliwack, its true we didn't, but if you don't want...

May 4, 2015 - North to Oregon

We left Redding and headed north on Interstate 5 into Oregon. Our first stop was Ashland, which is just 15 miles north of the California border. It is a bit of a “hoity-toity” town. Its proximity to California must account for the high cost of housing here. It is known for its Shakespeare festival and Lithia-filled waters. You can have a meal downtown in one of the many fine-dining, white-tablecloth restaurants or organic cafes. How about a spa treatment or perhaps visit a winery. We did none of the above – what a surprise. So, what did we...

Aug 20, 2013 - Salisha falls

We drove about an hours from Cathy's to go to Salisha falls which were beautiful. We hiked about a mile and saw koosha falls which both make looking glass in Pisgah Forest nc look like small falls. We came back to Cathy's and grilled fresh albacore tuna over the grill. If we had this great fish on the east coast, beef would be an after thought. Fresh tomatoes and zukes made it!

Aug 19, 2013 - Row River Trail

Cathy has been gracious enough to let us stay while she goes to work so we headed south to bike the Row River trail. This is a paved bike/hike trail that runs 15 miles from Cottage Grove to Culp Creek. It used to be a train track dating back to 1902 and was converted to a bikeway in 1994. We rode past 2 covered bridges and up to Dorena reservoir with beautiful blue water. All total we biked 13.5 miles under big Douglas firs and rolling pastures. We headed back to Springfield and stopped by Hop Valley for a very good IPA. Cathy got home and...

Aug 5, 2012 - Row River with Janet

We had a leisurely morning and then rode the Row River Trail up the valley with Janet for a 25 mile ride. We also each ate at least a pint of blackberries on the way. Boy, were they good! On the way back it got warm and we were all ready for a meal and a cool place. Western Oregon is having record heat even though it is cooler than the rest of the country. Tomorrow we move the Casita to Portland for a few days.

Summer Trip 2012

Aug 4, 2012 - Reflecting

Aug. 4, 2012 The tour was tough.  Not impossible, just tough.  The description  made me train harder than I would have.  And, boy, am I glad I did.  Others on the tour said they had previously done Adventure Cycling Association tours that were called intermediate, and that this one was at least as hard as those even though it was called an introduction.  I was the least experienced of the group, as many had done overnights before, some lots of them.  They just had not carried all their own stuff before. I will say it taught me that I can do...

Jul 29, 2012 - Nerves

July 29, 2012 Today was busy from early to late.  All the sorting gear and checking lists to make sure we take what we need for the tour and leave to what needs to stay! Then we pulled the Casita up a small mountain to leave it at the house of a lady who is also on the tour.  She rode with us, and after loading and unloading all the gear, it was time for class until 9pm.

Jul 27, 2012 - Row River Trail

July 27, 2012 Well, I guess all the hot, boring training paid off....   we are picking the bugs out of our teeth after today's ride.   We rode the Row River Trail rails to trails ride along Row River and Dorena Lake, up the valley 12.5 miles --a forested trail with terrific views. At the isolated east end of the trail, we started talking to a couple whose camper was parked there.  Deb had picked up her Bike Friday today, about the time we were there.  She and Ian were from Victoria, British Columbia, and told us about all the bike trails on...

Summer Trip 2012

Jul 26, 2012 - Arrived at destination

July 26,  2012 We left the campground hoping we did not have any hitchhikers on board, like the mouse John found when opening the gas cover after leaving Dinosaur National.  Poor little guy had ridden about 90 miles under the car until he found a safe, comfy seat by the gas lid. He must have gotten off that night because we never saw him again. We stopped for wifi in Prineville to upload photos.  Most rural cell signals just won't handle photos. The Cascades!  First view lets us know we are almost there! Wow, the ponderosa forest is...
