Jun 16, 2013 - Oregon Sand Dunes
We drove along the Oregon coast today, stopping to check out some tide pools along the way. Early afternoon we reached Coos Bay, a town famous for the huge sand dunes you can ride on. Of course we couldn’t pass up this opportunity! Ryan rented an ATV while Russell, Sammy and I chose a 4 seater Razor dune buggy. The dunes were awesome to ride on! In the area we rode, the dunes were over 100 feet high in some places! Ryan loved riding up them on the ATV! Our stop for the night was just over the Oregon/California boarder in Crescent City,...

May 29, 2013 - Home to Coos Bay
NORTHWEST TRIP MAY 19,2013 May 19th It's been quite an adventure so far. The first night we entered Richardson Grove State Park, but we are to long. We turned around and decided to go back south about a quarter of a mile. Good decision, about half way all the light and buzzers went off in the motor home. Thank goodness we found a spot to pull over. The belt and tentioner broke. I took the car to Richardson Grove RV Park, got a spot then went back to get Pat. He was able to get the motor home to the site without causing any damage. We drove...

On Tuesday we traveled 108 miles north on 101 to Coos Bay, Oregon and are parked at the Mill Casino RV Resort, a little pricey but worth the stay for the view. A visit to Shore Acres SP for the Botanical Gardens and viewing the shore line with a stop at Sunset Beach for a picnic lunch. On the way home we stop at an oyster farm and took a pic of the Shells stacked up the pic shows one stack of many. They use the shells to attach the Oyster seed to and then hang them from sticks in the tide pools. They produce about 4 to 6 thousand gallons...

Apr 28, 2013 - Coos Bay & Charleston
We didn't hurry packing up this morning since we were only moving 50 miles up 101. It was misty rain for most of our drive but it cleared & the sun came out shortly after we arrived. We're staying at the Oceanside RV Park in Charleston. It was recommended to us by friends in the water aerobics class in Arroyo Grande & they were certainly right. It seems almost like a state park rather than an rv park because it's cut out of the native trees/shrubs & not overly developed. Our site is at the back of the park near the dunes beside the ocean....

Sep 25, 2012 - Coos Bay, Oregon
We traveled from Florence, Oregon to Coos Bay, Oregon – a total of 49 miles. Traveled through wooded and sand dune areas. Highway 101 is close to the ocean but because of the huge (over 500 ft. dunes) the road is a bit inland. Along the Oregon coast is a rainforest. It is caused by the cool moist air coming from the ocean. When we look into the forest areas it is very dense. David is recovering from a cold so we have stopped very early at Wal-Mart (11AM) for him to recoup. We plan to spend the night here at Wal-Mart..

Today we drove to Coos Bay, about 40 miles north of our camp site for some shopping. Coos Bay is a city of about 16,000 residence and the larges town on the South Coast. While in Coos Bay we stopped at the Myrtle Wood Factory and Gift Shop. They advertised tours of the factory but we found out tours are not available on Sundays. We did enjoy browsing the Myrtle Wood products in the shop. On our drive back we stopped at the small town of Charleston OR and at Sunset Bay and Shore Acres State Parks. Charleston has a nice boat harbor on...

Aug 28, 2012 - More of Oregon's Beautiful Coast
Now under one week before we leave Grants Pass it was time to do one more trek out to the beautiful Oregon coast to see some more of the natural beauty and yes, of course – some more lighthouses; three to be exact! Another long day, but such a delightful one with all these scenic by-ways sprinkled throughout the state. Today we managed to travel along two of them and enjoyed them both. We traveled up I-5 to our exit just north of Roseburg and took the Umpqua Scenic By-Way with our first stop to see the Rochester Covered Bridge. We’ve been...

Aug 16, 2012 - Coos Bay
We journeyed to Coos Bay for a quick visit to our bank. We had rebate checks we needed to deposit, we needed quarters for laundry, and we mostly avoid ATM's if at all possible because someone always figures out a way to capture your personal information, and soon you are paying for their new car! We have some pictures that we put into two posts. We were only in Coos Bay for a couple of hours and walked a short distance of the downtown area and part of the marina. We have a few pictures for you. Mike and Nancy

Jul 26, 2012 - day 17 Eureka, California, to Port Orford, and Coos Bay, Oregon
KOA at 53 degrees on north. July is something here on west coast. Rode up the coast to Coos Bay OR. Pretty good roads for riding but always damp riding in the clouds and cold. Treated ourselves to a Best Western motel, too cold to camp. Were soft. Did a load of wash. Clean is good.
