May 21, 2019 - Florence to Coburg, OR

May 21, 2019 Finally got typical Oregon weather! Rained all night and likely to rain through Wednesday. The days more or less blend together and we rarely look at our calendar while on the road. I was thinking Memorial Day weekend was the 30th. Wrong!! I had wondered why folks would not return our calls for a camp site this next weekend. We were very fortunate. Belknap Hot Springs, where we are staying Wed/Thurs, said their sister lodge and camp a mile away had one open spot on Fri that we could have and still have access to the same...

May 5, 2017 - Day 06 - Rest & Rain & Family

Last night we stayed at a Good Sam RV Park, Eugene Kamping World, in Coburg. Today was a day of rest and relaxation and getting together with family from the Springfield area. It rained most of the day so we did “inside chores”. Nancy and I both caught up on paper work and e-mails. I did some “spring cleaning” inside the dusty RV while Nancy did laundry. We both enjoyed a movie and popcorn in the afternoon in our cozy Bus while listening to the rain on the roof. Evening came upon us before we knew it! Our cousin, Kathy Foster, picked us up...

May 4, 2017 - Day 05 - Grand Ronde to Coburg, OR

Today's ride was a 92 mile slog from Grand Ronde to Coburg, OR. The total ascent (elevation gain) was 2,215'. After just 3 days of bicycling on this bike trek across the US I have learned: 1. The world is not flat. 2. Even though it looks like it on a map, traveling south is not downhill. 3. Prevailing winds may generally blow east, but actual winds blow against you no matter which way you are traveling. I am finding that I am continuously hungry! After a good breakfast of oatmeal and fruit I was ravenous by 10:30 and had to stop for a...

Jul 17, 2016 - Coburg, Oregon

This morning we left the campground in Fairview, Oregon around 0930 for the 119 miles drive to Coburg, Oregon. We will be in Coburg for a minimum of two days and hopefully we will be able to have the motorhome serviced at one of three service facilities located across the freeway from the campground. The weather is cool and the sky is overcast and it has been overcast since we left Fairview. We did learn that if you are going to take the I-205 Portland Bypass Sunday morning seems to be the time to go. We have traveled this road numerous...

May 4, 2016 - Premier RV Resort of Eugene (2/24 - 2/27/26)

We drove about 160 miles north to Eugene. We are staying at another Premier RV Resort in Coburg, OR, only a few miles out. This is a very lovely park and our site (#143) faces a small pond. Beyond the pond is a large grassy field with tree covered hills beyond that. It is a really beautiful spot. After we got set-up, we took a walk around the pond. There is quite a community living around there. Several bullfrogs croaked and jumped into the water. There were many salamanders munching in the shallows. Some small fish were also swimming...

Sep 3, 2015 - Mountains lakes and rivers tour

We took a drive into the mountains and went on Hwy 126 past the McKenzie River - a place Dorothy went on vacation a few months ago. It was very scenic and then we took Hwy 242 up McKenzie pass scenic byway. We passed lava fields and at Dee Wright obseratory a lava rock structure with views of Mt. Washingon, Sisters, and various other peaks. There was lava everywhere. We then drove into Sisters and started west toward Eugene. BUT there was an accident on Hwy 20, the only way to get there, a truck collided with a school bus and it wasn't...

Sep 2, 2015 - Marathon coach plant tour

We took a tour of the Marathon coach factory today - it was a full 1 1/2 hours and very informative. We saw how the Prevost shell looks when it first comes from Canada and also saw a spec coach that was just about completed. We learned there are two models - the XL model has the stainless steel sides and both driver and passenger sit at the level of the rest of the coach, there is more ceiling height. The H model we most often see has minimal stainless steel, the driver sits lower than the coach floor and is the more popular model now. The...

Sep 1, 2015 - RV Glass

We had an uneventful 1 hour drive to Coburg, OR and arrived at RV Glass solutions in time for lunch. They came out right away to evaluate the windshield leak and said they would caulk it but no guaratees, only way to keep it from leaking for sure is to get a new windshield. We had lunch, they took it in and we were ready to go at 2 PM. Next to this glass place is the ARG repair facility with hookups in front, water and electric. The Marathon Coach plant is just across and the RV park is 1 1/2 miles away - very convenient. Camping World is...

Sep 11, 2014 - Virgin Territory

We said goodbye to Bev and John and the beautiful Seven Feathers Resort. We had such a great time there, but we are both exhausted. Bev and John wore us out!!! Now, it's back to RV life once again, as we hit the road into virgin territory for us. Before leaving, however, John topped off the gas tank since gas was $3.59 a gallon. -- We headed north on Interstate 5. We were planning on stopping in Sutherlin, Oregon, at the Escapees park, but upon further investigation, we learned they do not have bathrooms!! You would think for one of their...

Pretty Damn Nice!

Nov 19, 2013 - Day 21 - in Coburg, Oregon

We handed over the bus keys to Tyler at 7:30 am and headed to Coberg Corners Cafe for breakfast. We spent the morning checking out the shopping centers in the area and looking for something for Garry to read since he finished "The Hunger Games" trilogy already. We discovered a terrific bookstore in the University district called Smith Family Books. It reminded us a lot of the old bookstore in Brandon, only four times bigger. It was three floors of books on shelves, in stacks on the floor, new and used, all catogorized and alphabetized by...

Nov 18, 2013 - Day 20 - in Coburg, Oregon

We took the bus to the Monaco Service Center for our appointment at 7;30 am. We reviewed the list of work to be done with Cyndi, then with Tyler, Starting with installing the new door window, fix auto defrost in frig, repair the blind in the bedroom, doing all slide waffle seals,re-sealing the inverter box cabinet, re-doing roof seals and trying to find a solution for our useless coffee drawer. (It won't stay open). We headed out for breakfast and then another movie because, of course, it is still raining. We saw "Last Vegas" with Michael...

Nov 17, 2013 - Day 19 - Coburg, Oregon

Sill raining. We headed to Gateway Mall to catch a movie. We saw "Gravity" with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. It was not what we expected but was very dramatic and excellent special effects. Storyline a little far-fetched (maybe, I hope), but very strong role for Sandra Bullock, very well done.
