Aug 13, 2012 - to Cloverdale OR; 16/209

120813-Mon-65622-Today we ended at 65859, started at 65622 miles, for total miles today of 237. We drove to Cloverdale OR. I feel like all I have done is drive mountain roads, but it has just been the last 3 hours. We are at Camper Cove RV Park with full hookups. My wi-fi is so so as I only have 2 bars on my phone. We drove out to Cape Lookout State Park, but they were full. We are on the pacific coast in northern Oregon. I will probably have to re-do yesterdays entry, but it might not get done tonight. I just tried yesterday and it worked.

May 13, 2012 - Thousand Trails Pacific City

Stayed at Thousand Trails Pacific City for seven nights. Very nice 105 acre Thousand Trails (TT) preserve with 42 FHU, 293 Power & Water only, and 15 overflow sites. We are Platinum members of Thousand Trails/NACO/Leisure Time; a private campground membership. This is a highly recommended Thousand Trails RV Resort! Debbie took pictures of our journey along the way to this TT. Note 1: During our stay at this RV park, we walked from our RV to the Pacific Ocean on Mon., 05/16/12 - Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area and McPhillips Beach. Note 2:...

Sep 25, 2011 - Awesome Museums

We got to Tillamook just in time to eat lunch. It is a town of 4400 people and is home to the Tillamook Cheese Factory. It gets nearly 1 million visitors a year. It has a self guided tour with samples of the cheese they make. They also have a gift shop with Oregon made food wares, a café and of course an ice cream shop. The cheese business was started in the 1800’s when farmers came to the area and tried to raise crops. They quickly found out that the season was too short and there was too much rain to get a successful crop, but the grass...

Sep 24, 2011 - What's to Like

We have been looking forward to going to the Thousand Trails campground at Pacific City. We have had several people tell us that this is their favorite place. What a disappointment. The campground is located on a hillside with the road going up and down the hills. The attendant tells us we should have no problem getting a site with full hookups and also being able to get satellite. I don’t know what she was thinking, but as we drove through, the few places that had both were too short for us. They have huge bumps in the road to make sure no...

May 20, 2009 - More Oregon Coastline

Continuing up the Oregon coast on Highway 101 we made a lot of stops along the way. One of the really pretty areas was the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area. We hiked from the visitor center down to the ocean to see the tide pools and Cooks Chasm and Spouting Horn. The tide was not high enough to actually see the horn spout. The next day we took the Capes Scenic Drive along the coast north of where we are staying in Cloverdale. We stopped at the Cape Meares State Park to see the restored lighthouse and also the largest Sitka spruce tree, known as...
