Jul 19, 2011 - whales, lighthouses, and sand dunes
After I attended a friendly little church service in Waldport, we moved south along the coastal highway to Mill RV Park, located at a casino in North Bend, a town just north of Coos Bay. From that location, we toured the southern third of the gorgeous Oregon coast. We still had not tired of the basalt rocks, high headlands, crashing waves, and pocket beaches! Our first ride along this southern part of the Oregon coast was super! From Winchester Bay RV Resort, Winchester Bay, Oregon, on the coast, about 1/3 of the way up from California towards Washington. WEATHER REPORT: At 7:41 PM, 55 degrees, sunny; past 24 hours, 45/65, 0.38 inch rain during the night, nice sun today, light winds. I told you in Thursday’s entry that we had been to Coos Bay for the last time in this visit to the area & you’ve tolerated my bemoaning several times that we had not been able to see any seals, sea lions or whales in this area. Apr 6, 2010 - Dunes and rocks
The day dawned cloudy but no rain. Our first stop was the sand dunes north of Winchester Bay which are part of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. Of course our beach baby had a play. However there are areas of the dunes where ATV’s can play. We cannot understand this obsession of North America for the boy’s toys! We then drove into Umpqua Lighthouse State Park. Jul 21, 2009 - The "wiseman"..tour guide EXTRAORDINAIRE!!
. We got us a convoy..well a convoy of two!! We left POV at 9:30am with our tour guide leading the way north on Highway 101. It was a foggy morning in Port Orford but by the time we left the sun was beginning to shine..another great day was on the way. Our first stop on our road trip was Misty Meadows for some more of their delicious marionberry jam and there was even time for a geocache hunt..GOT JAM..Gordon was the lucky one to make the discovery this time.
