May 21, 2013 - Brookings, OR
*** 5-27-2013 *** Few more photos added. We are at sea level...literally!! Arrived about 12:30. Typical coastal weather, overcast and intermittent rain....but who cares. Right on the ocean and were able to pull in, hookups on the other side, to take advantage of the view. The only thing behind us is the Pacific. "Beachfront RV Park, located at the Port of Brookings Harbor, is one of the few RV parks that enable you to park right on the beach and, it only needs to be seen to be appreciated. Relax to the sound of the surf, scent of the salt...

May 15, 2013 - To The Beach!
Today, we swapped the sounds of the river rushing by our front door and the honking of geese for the sounds of waves crashing on the beach and seagulls. We are all happy, happy campers as we settle in to our spot right on the beach in Brookings. We were at this park last year, and again, it is one of our favorites. The ocean is out our front window. -- The park is part of a city park, with a parking lot for people wishing to visit the beach. There is a steady stream of slow moving vehicles between us and the beach, which sounds like it...

Apr 24, 2013 - Entering Oregon
Days 49-51 of The Big Trip On Monday, the 22nd, the engines roared to life earlier than normal. Our drive started in fog and we were in and out of fog a good part of the way. At times, our ocean views were blocked by that fog and, at other times, by the forests along the road. When we left earlier than usual, the plan was to give ourselves plenty of time to stop and see whatever offered itself. If there is a disadvantage to traveling in an RV, it is that one cannot just stop at any point on the road or turn to explore a side road that looks...

Apr 23, 2013 - Yeah Oregon!
Left Eureka and drove to Brookings Oregon today. I'm meeting a friend at Harris State Park for a number of days. This place is very nice so I decided to stay 8 nights and relax. The weather, other than a couple of days that were foggy, have been very nice. While here we hiked a couple of locations. One was among the redwoods and the other was Vulcan Peak. Polar opposites for locations and both were very enjoyable. Visit My Brookings Oregon Coastline and Area Images Photo Album

Oct 25, 2012 - It all started with a skin flick...
Our buddy Warren sent this to us today. I found it very interesting and thought you might too! Enjoy.... How a brilliant starlet created a worldwide technology boom! It all started with a skin flick... In 1933, a beautiful, young Austrian woman took off her clothes for a movie director. She ran through the woods...naked. She swam in a lake...naked. Pushing well beyond the social norms of the period, the movie also featured a simulated orgasm. To make the scene "vivid," the director reportedly stabbed the actress with a sharp pin just...

Oct 25, 2012 - Harris Beach...
Just a few pics of one of our favorite beaches on the Oregon Coast. I think the rock formations here are cool but the main reason I think we like it so much is that when the tide is out it's a lovely place for a stroll! Ahhh, fresh air & birds & flowers & waves & sky & well, you get the idea! I would come here every nice day if I lived in this area!!! Seriously, lol...

Oct 24, 2012 - Smith River
We began our drive to the Stout Grove in California on Monday driving along the Smith River. We found ourselves out of the truck on several occasions taking in the beauty, oh my! The Smith River is approximately 25 miles long and drains a rugged area of the Pacific Coast Ranges west of the Siskiyou Mountains just south of the Oregon border and north of the watershed of the Klamath River. It is the second largest river system in California that flows freely along its entire course and was named for the explorer Jedediah Smith. I suppose it's...

Oct 23, 2012 - Stout Grove Drive...
Yesterday we visited Stout Grove, considered by many to be one of the world's most scenic stand of redwoods. It's not all that large, and it doesn't have the biggest trees, but for sheer photogenic beauty nothing beats this extraordinary grove! Located on a small floodplain at the junction of two rivers, the Stout Grove has an openness and cathedral-like majesty combined with a lush, lawn-like ground cover. This grove also contains the Stout Tree, which is the bulkiest known coast redwood. It is 340 feet tall and 16 feet in diameter at...

Jul 26, 2012 - Oregon At Last! Brookings
Eureka, Ca. to Brookings, Oregon (distance:111 miles) Do we ever travel slow! We have been in California for 3 months now, and just today we crossed the Oregon border and will nest in Brookings for about a week. We plan to get as far north as we can before we need to turn south for our winter destination. At the pace we are traveling, we may not make it farther than Northern Oregon. We are enjoying the shorter drives to each destination, and the longer stays. Since we left Arizona back on April 1st, we have traveled 1279 miles, and stayed...

Jun 19, 2012 - Back to the Coast
We spent the weekend enjoying our beautiful spot on the Rogue River. We made a quick shopping trip into Medford on Friday morning before the heat of the day settled in. The park was full for the holiday and John enjoyed visiting with nice neighbors around us. We watched the eagle and the geese families and lots of boats and rafts with people who were going to be very sunburned by the end of the day. During the day, it was too hot for us to sit outside but the evenings were very nice. -- This morning, we were out and on the road by 6:00 am,...

Jun 2, 2012 - Harris Beach SP
June 1, 2012 A low energy day today. You’d thing taking a shower when it’s 56 outside would be an eye-opener! And it was for the moment…but not long term. I spent some time down at the beach that goes with the park. I have to drive there but it was beautiful and the sounds awesome. It was windy and fog was, at first, slowly rolling in. Later the fog came in more forcefully. I walked the beach, took pictures and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. For some of the time I sat in the car so I could listen to the waves and seagulls. There’s a big...

May 31, 2012 - Harris Beach State Park, Brookings, OR
May 31, 2012 I left Humboldt Redwoods CG Tuesday to drive just over the border into Oregon and Harris Beach State Park outside Brookings, OR. I went from 2 ½ weeks of dry camping, meaning I had no hookups and had to rely on my solar and generator for power. Luckily I had the furnace repaired so I could rely on that on the chilly mornings. I had a pretty sunny site at Humboldt by comparison to the sites that were deep in the redwoods and saw no sun at all. At Harris Beach I had a full hookup site, meaning electric, water and sewer...
