Jun 10, 2013 - Down Day in Aurora

I know it seems that we have a lot of these "down days", but when you're traveling like this and taking 200 mile trips every day doing sightseeing, you really need down time. Also, it's just like at home...the bathroom needs cleaning, the laundry needs to be done, you need to do some grocery shopping and we get some rest. It's only partly vacation...the routine stuff never goes away. Granted...when staying in a hotel, you don't have to cook or do dishes, you don't have to make your bed, but you either wash your clothes at the hotel or carry...

Jun 9, 2013 - The Oregon Coast

I've always heard that the Oregon Coast was incredibly beautiful. This morning we packed a lunch and took off at about 8am headed for the coast...we wanted to see the Pacific and some beach. We drove about 60 miles West and voila!!! there it was. We saw a little side street with a little sign that said "Ecola State Park". It was a narrow, twisty road going up. We...

We drove to the Columbia River Gorge today. In looking at the map, it seemed that what we wanted to do was to take Rt. 14 East to see Mt. Hood and the Gorge, but as we were driving, we found that what there wasn't much of what we wanted to see there. On Rt. 14 you see National Forest and a lot of trail heads. But, since Bruce's knee doesn't allow us to do hiking, we really wanted to be where we could see things without the hike. So, we talked to some people who told us we really wanted to be on I84. So, we got some lunch and headed for I84....

Jun 7, 2013 - Moving again...on to Oregon

We left Elma, Washington headed for Aurora, Oregon. The GPS tried to send us straight down I5, but we had been told we should probably try to avoid downtown Portland, so we detoured to Rt 205. Unfortunately, we didn't catch it quickly enough and the GPS re-routed us to I84 and back onto I5...right the center of downtown Portland. What a mess. But, we made it through the city without incident and arrived in Aurora unscathed. We're in the Aurora RV Park which is really nice, and we'll e here for a few days.
