Jul 23, 2016 - Ashland, OR

We left Eureka and continued on the 101 Highway although we did take a detour on what they call Drury Road. It was a beautiful drive through an old growth redwood forest where the size of the trees dwarfed our truck and 5th wheel rig. We got back on the 101 and left California behind us as we headed inland to Ashland, OR. It took us four hours to get to our campsite at Emigrant Lake, a county recreation area. It was quite an experience backing our rig into the site. Not only was it a sharp turn on a narrow road but we had to go uphill. It...

Jun 19, 2015 - 5/28 - 6/1 Ashland OR.

We arrived in Ashland mid afternoon at Glenyan RV Park & Campground, 5310 Highway 66, Ashland, OR 97520, which is a nice little park with lots of trees and only 30 amp service. The internet was quite good. The park is quite close to Emigrant Lake, a state recreational are which also has an RV park. This park is also quite lovely located at a point in the lake, it has 50 amp but virtually no shade. It was quite hot in Ashland the first few days but we did fine without AC because of the trees. We attempted to go wine tasting at Belle Fiori...

Jun 15, 2015 - Shakespeare Lives In Oregon!

Only a few miles north of the CA border and an easy drive off Interstate 5 is Ashland, Oregon. We stayed at Emigrant Lake (a Jackson County Park) at The Point RV Park. At $30 a night with full hook-ups, a paved site and a view of the lake, it was a real bargain. Ashland is renown as the home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF). This year (2015) they are celebrating their 80th Anniversary. The Festival begins in mid-February and runs until October. This season they tackled 10 productions, three of them from Shakespeare. OSF has three...

Jun 14, 2015 - Glenyan RV Park

June 14, 2015 We are at Glenyan RV Park. It seems to have gone downhill since we were here several years ago. Don’t think I would come back. Mike is going to try and find the race on TV, only cable here, we are in the trees. I am going to find a Wal-Mart and see if I can get my nails done and do a little shopping. Not a good day for either of us. I could only find half of the things on my list, and no nail shop. Mike could not find the race. Being in the trees makes it cooler, only in the mid 80’s today. Thoughts on moving out of the...

Oct 30, 2014 - Coos Bay to Ashland, OR

October 30, 2014 The casino took us by shuttle into North Bend to the restaurant. Dinner at Ciccarellis was fun because of Wendy, our honest, fun loving, mature and outgoing waitress. From the get go she welcomed us with a warm handshake and made us feel at home. She lived for some time in Chico before moving back to North Bend to be with her father and family. With the final game of the World Series we practically had the place to ourselves. In fact, we did have the back room to ourselves. The menu was a mixture of Italian and French...

Jul 3, 2014 - Starting to head home.

Knowing the morning traffic in Portland would be horrendous, we decided to get the heck out of Dodge by 6AM, which meant getting up at 4:30AM….and we did it and were on the road through Portland heading south in traffic that was getting heavier by the moment, but we made it. Got to Ashland, where the Shakespeare Festival is held. Parked the RV and just after backing it in, made a startling discovery. Charlotte’s cousin, Don Reed and his friend Horst were in the RV parked right next to us. Talk about coincidence. When I initially looked over...

Jun 7, 2014 - Mesa to Ashland

Starting the trip The first segment of our trip takes us from our home in Mesa to Prince Rupert, BC where we’ll board the Alaska Marine Highway ferry Matanuska. I’m changing the organization of the journal. Rather than an entry for each location where we stop; I’ll post an entry for stops with special activities and include day by day descriptions with associated pictures of daily travel and overnight stops. Day 1: Monday, June 2nd. The first day of our 2014 summer trip started very early; we were up shortly after 3 am and pulled out of...

Alaska 2014

Sep 15, 2012 - Ashland, OR

Didn’t eat dinner until 8:00 last night because we got so caught up in work, phone calls etc. We had delicious wild Coho salmon that was BBQd with a butter/white wine/mustard/brown sugar glaze. This was accompanied by heirloom tomatoes with pesto and balsamic dripped over the top finished with crumbled goat cheese. Boiled fingerling potatoes. 2009 BV cabernet. After breakfast we biked the Greenway towards Ashland, about 10 miles. Lovely morning ride through the woods and along Bear Creek for most of the way. The path is well maintained and...

Sep 13, 2012 - Ashland, OR

We met some folks in camp last night from Olympia National Park who have a Roadtrek Airstream. Spent time swapping Roadtrek minutia of course! Bob and I concluded that Mt. Shasta can be described in five words: crystals, yoga, health food, spiritual healing center (with attached tattoo parlor), organic food. Transcendental never left this area! I forget to mention in last night’s journal ( and I butched the picture) of the tattoo parlor in Redding: Lethal Injection!!! Road our bikes into town and stopped for breakfast at Yaks, a...

Jul 10, 2012 - Day 12

You'll have to wait awhile for the good pics from today- we couldn't take them because we were busy hanging on for dear life in the Class IV rapids. We got up and headed out to be picked up by Noah's River Adventures bus and went up to a point on the Rogue River. There were 3 guide boats and 15-16 rafters and 3 guides. We went with the guide who didn't have a seat and oars- only paddles like us so we had to work pretty hard- it was just the 5 of us. Actually, for the flat parts we just floated and didn't work very hard at all- Garrett and...

May 31, 2012 - Oregon Beginning

We left Davis by 1 pm, drove 300 miles, arriving in Ashland by 8:30 pm. A deer ran across I 5 right in front of us at 8 pm! We were so lucky not to hit it. The next morning we saw two deer munching flowers 2 blocks from downtown Ashland! The Lithia Park is bursting with rhododendrons in bloom. We stayed in a Good Sam campground outside of town. We noticed that there were a lot more people living in the park than when we stayed here 2 years ago. An old trailer was parked next to us and I watched a young boy leave for school the next morning....

Apr 17, 2012 - Last day...feeling sad

Today we were eventually going to go to explore the caves but I felt that I just didn't have the time even thought that would have been so much fun! Instead I spent the morning packing and repacking our suitcases. Not an easy task I must say! But finally it was done and we drove to Medford to see Trudy. We decided to take the kids to the little carnival by the mall. It didn't open until three so we went into the mall for awhile. There were quite a few cute shops and if I hadn't already packed I'm sure I would have found a few things to take...
