Aug 1, 2012 - The "easy day"
Aug. 1, 2012 Only 36 miles today. A pretty trek down to Walport, not too many hills. Even stopped to eat blackberries on the side of the road. The vines look like they are on steroids and are considered weeds and pests here. The thorns are vicious but the berries are delicious. And they still charge $3 a pint in the stores. We camped at Beachside State Recreation Area, one of the prettiest state parks on the beach. Jul 31, 2012 - The BIG day
July 31, 2012 Started at 6am helping with breakfast. John had to pack up by himself. Then we had a map meeting with the group and finally got off about 8:30. The sun was out early instead of it being cloudy, so riding early was cool but not cold. The first 20 miles were through flat farmland with views of distant mountains. Very pretty. And we saw a bald eagle with a fledgling. We stopped for a cinnamon roll at Monroe (for maybe 15 min.) Then things began to get tough. It got warmer, 73 in the shade.
