Dec 13, 2018 - George W & Home Again

The weather cooled down a lot overnight and it started to rain as we left Grapevine, headed to the George W Bush Presidential Center on the campus of Southern Methodist University. The security here was much tighter than at the LBJ yesterday; similar to going through TSA at an airport. The Library and Museum focused on the nation's 43rd President and the exhibits helped explore the events that shaped the administration. Much more technology here with lots of interactive multimedia experiences. A special Christmas display showcased what life...

Oct 23, 2018 - Home Again

With major rainfall in the forecast, we decided to head home. We took the scenic route, bypassed Eureka Springs and by the time we got near Tulsa, we were starving. We had lunch at a wonderful Mexican restaurant, fueled up the car, and we were homeward bound. It was a great trip even if we didn't see a lot of foliage and got chased home by the rain.

Aug 31, 2018 - Home Again

So Richard and Karen are heading southeast to Florida and we are heading southwest to Yukon and home sweet home. We will really miss them; probably May before we see them again. It's an easy drive for us, despite massive construction on the Turner Turnpike. However, traffic moved along nicely and we took a coffee break and potty stop at the midway. We got home just in time to go to Braum's for lunch and do some grocery shopping to stock up the fridge and pantry again. Good to be home.

Jun 14, 2018 - Home, Sweet Home

It should have been an easy ride from Vinita home; but, there is a huge construction project going on on the Turner Turnpike west of Tulsa. We plodded along with one lane for what seemed like miles; but, finally broke through and made our way home early afternoon. First order of business was a trip to the grocery store; fridge was almost empty and we have no plans to go anywhere for a little while, so time to stock up.

Adventures for 2018

May 12, 2018 - Home, Sweet Home

We were up early and my sister and husband had us at Shannon Airport in ample time for our flight home. Good thing, since I had the pleasure of being randomly singled out by the TSA for 'extra' screening. This involved something very close to a strip search of me and my bags. I didn't think fast enough to give the camera bag to Joe, so I had to take it out, turn it on and off, same with flash, cell phone, laptop, etc. Took approx 45 minutes to get through. Guess, you can never tell what 70-yr old little white haired ladies are carrying....

Jul 4, 2017 - Happy Birthday, USA!!

WOW, 241 years! Here's to 241 more. Today was a very lazy day. I was hoping for a lively celebration here at the park, but no such luck. This morning we made a trip to Dollar Store and Walmart (surprise, surprise) for a few small items. At Dollar Tree we bought some pool noodles to cut up and put under the slides to (hopefully) keep the rain out. It looked very much like it could rain at any minute. On the way to Walmart, we passed the Yukon City Park and they were having a car show, but when I did a Google search for 4th celebrations,...

Jul 4, 2017 - Thanks for the jinx, Bev!

When I last talked to Bev, she said she hoped we didn't run into any bad weather in OK since this is part of TORNADO ALLEY. So last night about 8:45 we decided that the black sky and wind was a little too much for us. (We had already brought in the slides (along with most of the rest of the guests) in anticipation of the coming storm.) We have been through storms before while on the road, but this one, whew! We weren't sure exactly what was going to happen other than lots of wind and rain. The weather alerts were talking about wind up to...

Jul 3, 2017 - Lost and Found

First I need to explain the title. This should have been the title a couple of days ago, but guess better late than never. Anyway, about a year or so ago, I started looking for the book and info for THOR. I looked everywhere I could think of, nothing! Eventually I decided that it joined the black hole where we had lost other things. Well, the other day when the car wouldn't start, I was looking in the back and saw a black folder with FORD on the cover. Bob said it was the one for the car, but I looked in it anyway and lo and behold it was...

Mar 26, 2017 - OKLAHOMA!

Yesterday's drive was beautiful - mountains ablaze with yellow flowers all along I17. Today I had to cut my trip short by 100 miles due to severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings. The wind surely did "sweep across the plains." Ended up in Yukon, Oklahoma - the home of Garth Brooks!

Jul 10, 2016 - Mustang RV Park - Yukon, OK

Today we went from Van Buren, AR to Yukon, OK - just to the west of OKC. The traffic was good, and the weather was even better. We made sure we knew where the storm shelters were, in case of a tornado. We then went into the pool and then went out to dinner. Tomorrow we go to Amarillo, TX.

2016 Southwest

Sep 29, 2015 - Oklahoma

Yukon is a bedroom community of Oklahoma City. We had to take two toll roads to arrive here and were glad that they were in a little better state of repair than the regular highways. Not a big highway budget around here. My Gorilla tape job on the back window is holding up so far! The Cedar Creek Rep (Denise, or as Irene calls her "Denise the Magnificant") had a replacement window flown to Arizonna where we will have it installed when we are in Bullhead City. We stayed at a Good Sam that was very nice but the wifi was sketchy. It was on...

Aug 21, 2012 - Family visit

Another good travel day. Today was only 335 miles so we lingered around awhile before we left. Hit some rain here and there. Of course we hit rain when we got to Cadillac ranch. It was too wet and soupy to take Tyrone or Stevie down the trail so we admired from afar. Stopped at some road side attractions and finally made it to Yukon. Met up with my brother and his family. My neice recently bought a house so we had to check it out. She has a real nice place. We are now back in our room for the night. Tomorrow we head to Branson to meet up...
