Dec 25, 2019 - Captain's Log - Stillwater, OK to Benson, AZ

Captain’s Log: 2019.12.25 Christmas has arrived and Dee Dee and I are hanging out in our Earthship enjoying a peaceful morning. Black Friday is behind us and all of the shopping push and shove is over except for one more day…the day after Christmas when the stores will once again be flooded with people returning the gifts they received in hopes that they can score a better deal as the stores unload their remaining Christmas inventory. We will not get involved in that sport. The sun is just coming up spreading glory all around us. It’s been...

Captain’s Log: 2019.11.28 Today is Thanksgiving Day. I know that you are scattered around the country but I wish you all the best and that you have a wonderful time with whoever you may be spending the day with. I hope that during the festivities that you take some time to reflect on all of the things we have to be thankful for. Take a break from all of the political bickering and drama and just enjoy spending time with each other. We’ve been parked in Stillwater, Oklahoma visiting our son since October 9th and we’ve enjoyed our visit but...

Oct 5, 2019 - October 1-5, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma

October 1-5, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma October 1 – This was another quiet day. October 2 – I ran down to Von Maur to pick up Christmas presents for Mary, Debbie and Connie. Mary is coming from Iowa and Debbie from Texas on Thursday. They are going to join Guyla, Connie and Patsy for Christmas on Saturday. They always come sometime in October for Christmas since travel can get tricky around Christmas time. I had Christmas presents for Guyla, Connie and Patsy, but I didn’t have anything for Mary and Debbie as I am usually gone before they...

Sep 28, 2019 - September 22-28, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma

September 22-28, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma September 22 – It rained most of the night, I think, and it rained all morning. At times, it was heavy rain. There were flash flood and flood warnings out for Stillwater. The wind was high yesterday afternoon and when I went to bed. This morning there was some wind, but too much. I fixed a new recipe for lunch today. It was parmesan cheese mushrooms. It was easy – 1 pound of mushrooms, ½ cup melted butter, one package of hidden valley ranch dry salad dressing mix and 2 teaspoons parmesan cheese....

Sep 21, 2019 - September 15-21, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma

September 15-21, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma September 15 – Lunch was at Connie’s today. She had fixed a pork roast which was good. We visited while they worked on cross stitching and I did crosswords. It was hot again today but not as bad as yesterday. I hope we are going to get some cooler weather soon. I watched the 1st episode of the Ken Burns Country Music documentary. It was really good. I had heard of some of the singers, but there were quite a few that I hadn’t heard of. Since it covered mostly the 1920s, it’s no wonder I didn’t...

Sep 14, 2019 - September 10-14, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma

September 10-14, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma September 10 – I was up early this morning. I finished getting things ready to move, got the coach unhooked and the car hooked up. I was ready to leave when Kerrilynn, the manager of the park, stopped to talk. So, instead of getting away before 9, it was almost 10 when I finally got on the road. Since I only had about 15 miles to go, it didn’t matter much. I did get here before it got too hot. I was able to get everything hooked up and inside before it was too bad. It has been cooler today than...

Sep 9, 2019 - September 6-9, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma

September 6-9, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma September 6 – I got my filing done today. I hate to do it and put it off as long as I can, but today it had to be done. I also wrapped a few last Christmas presents for Connie, Guyla and Patsy. I met Connie and Guyla for all-you-can-eat catfish at Boom-a-rang’s. Afterwards, I ran by Guyla’s house to pick up some books which I wanted to read. I’ve watched more coverage of Hurricane Dorian. The pictures from the Bahamas are heart-wrenching. Even before Dorian hit the North Carolina coast, the...

Sep 5, 2019 - September 3-5, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma

September 3-5, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma September 3 – I’ve spent the day working on some travel stuff for the trip Patsy and I are going to take next year. We are going to Dutch Harbor, Russia and Japan. I watched a lot of the coverage of Hurricane Dorian. What it has done in the Bahamas is unbelievable. September 4 – I ran down to OKC to Von Maur this morning. I had taken my leather coat which is lined with rabbit fur to Von Maur last week. I bought the coat at the Wichita store about 15 years ago. One of the buttons was coming off,...

Sep 2, 2019 - September 2, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma

September 2, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma I’ve spent the day editing posts, pictures and watching the coverage of Hurricane Dorian. The Bahamas have really taken a hit. Today, it was moving only 1 mph so it is just sitting over the Bahamas with 185 mph winds and torrential rains. The destruction is just catastrophic. As of mid-afternoon today, Dorian has dropped the wind speed by 40 mph to 145 mph, and it looks like it is going to stay out to sea. That doesn’t mean that Florida is out of the woods because it will only be 20 miles or so...

Sep 1, 2019 - September 1, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma

September 1, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma I got so engrossed in watching the Hurricane Dorian coverage that I was late getting to Connie’s for lunch. It is unbelievable what that storm is doing. It is now a category 5 storm with 185 mph winds. It is only moving at 5 mph so it is essentially just sitting over the Bahamas today. This evening they are showing some of the devastation on the northern Bahama Islands. Earlier today, it looked like it would turn and miss Florida but the 11 p.m. advisory looks like that might not be so. If it hits...

Aug 31, 2019 - August 26-31, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma

August 26-31, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma August 26 – More rain. I’m getting tired of it. This afternoon, Patsy and I figured out which cruise we wanted to take and got quotes on them. We looked at those and then made up our minds which one we’re going to book. We booked an Oceania cruise from Los Angeles to Tokyo. It stops at Kodiak Island, Dutch Harbor in the Aleutians, Vladivostok, Russia and 5 stops in Japan ending in Tokyo. We’re going to take the bullet train from Tokyo to Kyoto and spend a few days sightseeing there before heading...

Aug 25, 2019 - August 25, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma

August 25, 2019 – Stillwater, Oklahoma Today the needleworkers met at Connie’s house. I almost hated to get out. It began raining about the time I got up at 7 this morning. I left at 11:30 to go to Connie’s, and it was still raining. It finally cleared off around 1. After it quit raining, it got hot and muggy. I spent the rest of the day reading. jnd
