May 2, 2013 - Purcell, OK - Chandler Park

Our trip from Benbrook, TX to Purcell, OK was fairly short and rough. It was almost all on I-35 which has seen better days. I did lose a hubcap off the left-front wheel but the Albuquerque Freightliner dealer has another one waiting on me to pick it up. When we arrived at Chandler Park, we saw nothing but white RV tops as we came across the hill and were afraid there would be no sites open. Luckily, there was one left! The park is almost full of long-term stays but they are keeping their sites neat and are no problem except for the early...

Oct 29, 2011 - Purcell, OK - Chandler Park

It was a nice, easy 136 mile trip over the back roads between Mountain Park and Purcell, OK. It was through mostly farm country with a few cows and oil wells thrown in for variety. We are staying at Chandler RV Park which is a small city park and have a 50 amp full hookup pull-through site, good Verizon coverage and a clear shot to the satellite. The only problem with the sites is they are more than a little unlevel and the hookups and a stationary picnic table are so close to the pad that positioning was difficult with our slide-outs but...

Apr 10, 2009 - Purcell, OK - Chandler Park RV

We took the back roads from Checotah to Purcell and enjoyed a nice leisurely drive through the country. The RV park at Chandler Lake is very nice with a row of long pull-throughs and another row of long back-ins. All sites are full hook-up and cost $18/night payable at the Pro Shop across the street. The last two days we were here the winds were extremely high, even for Oklahoma. Some of the wind gusts got into the 70s. It was like being on the edge of a hurricane without the bands of rain. The state is very dry and several fires caught...

2009 Alaska

Dec 27, 2007 - Here we go!

Snowfall expected south of Olathe so we decided to begin our journey a day early rather than risk bad weather and starting a week late. We drove to Oklahoma City where we wanted to shop at Camping World. I had been smelling LP gas so we decided to get that checked out while we were there. The leak was just a stuck fill valve. Light snow was predicted for Oklahoma City that night so we chose to move on down the road a bit. We drove to Purcell, OK and our first night out in a WalMart parking lot. This worked very well. It was not noisy and...
