May 7, 2014 - Ponca City To Pawhuska

Walked through Standing Bear Park this morning. The birds were chirping, ducks were strolling with their ducklings , and the 22 foot bronze statue of Standing Bear was glistening in the morning sunlight. It was so very peaceful. Standing Bear is a famous chief of the Ponca tribe because in 1879 he won a "landmark court case that recognized an Indian as a person under the law and is entitled to rights and protection." The details of this case ,"Standing Bear vs. Crook", are fascinating. The story is long, sad, but in the end fruitful. The...

Sep 12, 2013 - Pawhuska OK

Today was another drive day, but it wasn’t without its adventurous moments. We woke up about 7:20 and by 7:35 it started raining, so unhooking the water, sewer and electric was a little damp, but we had to get on the road a bit earlier than usual because we had a plan. I wanted to stop by the place that manufactured the tow bar – the gizmo that attaches the Jeep to the RV – and it happened to be pretty much on our way to our next stop.
