May 16, 2013 - Oklahoma City
Tuesday moved on again a 1.5 hour drive to Oklahoma City where we are stopping just 2 nights. We arrived by lunchtime today which gave us time to visit some of the city, today we walked along the canal in Bricktown, loads of murals in the area, painted Bison as well. Very windy here but just as well as it is so hot would be unbearable without the wind. Along the canal we saw lots of Ducks & ducklings, as well as a stray rabbit and a bird that had fallen out of its nest. Now to find today one of the air cons is not working & we really could...

May 6, 2013 - Oklahoma City National Memorial
The Memorial was incredibly moving bringing tears. It is unimaginable how beautifully peaceful this history was revealed and so chilling an event. We had to visit again at night. Plans now include Waco (David Koresh's bulldozed compound) to see where Tim McVeigh began his plans involving Terry Nichols, his service buddy.

May 4, 2013 - Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
At Rockwell RV Park, a large place just off the Interstate. Not much dog walk for Yogi who has to be encouraged to return to the RV. Settle in plan to see the Oklahoma City National Memorial. Adjustment begins again to the new digs. Trying to find things.

Apr 18, 2013 - Headed to Summer Jobs
Well, we are off again to go to our summer jobs. We left Mesa on April 1 and headed east on Interstate 40. We had planned on stopping at Gallup, NM, but it was still fairly early and we both felt like driving some more, so we ended up stopping in Albuquerque for the night. We knew we had about 3 weeks before we had to report for work, so we had time to see some sights. We planned on going to Branson and seeing some of the shows before starting our summer jobs. While we were getting set up that evening, we saw another couple that had stayed...

Apr 10, 2013 - Ice Scrapers in April
It was a wild weather night, one of those typical spring storms we Okies have grown accustomed to over the years. But, even for us, it's a little late in the season for these frigid temperatures. It rained heavy all night long, the winds blew the rain in sheets against the sides of the motor home, thunder rolled, lightning flashed, and hail and sleet peppered the roof. Foxy was not a happy camper and I couldn't sleep anyway so I sat up for several hours with her. The forecast had a weather warning calling for a wintry mix; winter in...

Apr 5, 2013 - On The Road (Oklahoma City, OK)
Traveling for the fourth consecutive day was not something we looked forward to, but we managed to be ready to go, and pulled out of Oasis RV Park in Amarillo, Texas right at 8:30 this morning. At least we remained in the same time zone all day today! We made one fuel stop and arrived at Twin Fountains RV Park in Oklahoma City at 2:15 this afternoon. The traffic was heavy all day but Marilyn did great following in her car. We were soon checked in and all set up in Site E-22. This is a nice long pull-through site with room for parking of the...

Apr 5, 2013 - Amarillo To Oklahoma City
Today would have been my 49th wedding anniversary. Enough said. Before leaving Texas, I needed to have my car inspected. My sticker came due in February but since I was in Arizona the inspection got delayed until now. I left Amarillo a bit later than I normally would have but at least I am "legal" now. Have you ever heard the title song from the musical Oklahoma? --Oklahoma where the wind comes SCREAM'n cross the plains ( took a little license there). Well believe it! The wind was brutal on I40 today. I broke up the drive by stopping in...

Mar 21, 2013 - Rockwell RV Park
Another day another state and more wind on the beam of the motor home. Makes a fella have a goodnight's sleep tho that i can vouch for. easy set up but dinner was rather minimalist with a 40Kt wind blowing the burners. Weather appears to be moving in on us so may have to make a tactical decision one way or the other tomorrow. Looks like folks in the homeland and others to the north are getting hit pretty good. First day of spring no less. Not much else to report as not much has happened today. Cable and wifi are good if nothing else, see...

Mar 19, 2013 - Home for a Few Weeks
With just about 250 miles, we weren't in a huge hurry to get going. Oasis is on the west side of Amarillo and we let most of the morning rush go before we hit the superslab again. The wind was a little more troublesome today and we both just wanted to get home. We minimized our stops and Foxy was a real trooper and slept most of the journey. We still had a comfortable fuel supply by the time we got to Flying J at Morgan Rd. However, it was good to see that solid sub $4.00 / gallon price. Our plan to get a wash at Blue Beacon died a quick...

Feb 7, 2013 - Returning to Mission, TX
Thursday, Feb 7th – We got an early start. Maybe it was too early, because shortly after we left Bo and Patsy’s place, I saw a police car in my rearview mirror with his lights on. Shonda and I were deep in conversation and I had not noticed that we were going through a school zone. The policeman came up to the car and pointed out that I had gone to fast through the school zone. He asked for my license and asked where we lived and where we are going. I told him we were on our way back to Mission, TX and that we were from San Diego. The...

Feb 6, 2013 - Vida starts trip to San Diego
Wednesday, Feb 6th – Early rise, not much sleep! Gary and Han prepare to leave with Vida on their two day trip back to San Diego. After our goodbyes we had a quick breakfast and left to go back to the nursing home to visit with Francis. I really enjoyed visiting with Francis and asking her questions about her youth and her children. She is quite a lady and a GREAT cook. Shonda and I have stopped by her house a couple of times when we were traveling to or from CA. One night we arrived at her home in OKC around 10:30 pm on our way to attend...

Feb 5, 2013 - Bringing Vida home
Tuesday, Feb 5th – We got an early start because we wanted to bring Vida back with us to Patsy’s house tonight. When we arrived at the nursing home, we found Vida getting ready for her morning exercise. She was very excited to see us. Alzheimer is a terrible aliment. It really takes away one’s ability to see and understand what is around you and to know and remember people. For instance, Vida wanted us to meet one of her friends at the home. She called this lady over who seemed to understand a little of what was going on. After the lady...
