Apr 10, 2015 - More Oklahoma Wind and Some Free Cash

More driving in the wind brought us to Muskogee, OK for a 1 night stop. Since we weren’t going to be here long we opted to stay at one of the Indian casinos in town that had RV parking with electric hookup but no water or sewer. We don’t want to sound too cheap, but it just doesn’t seem right to pay $30. or more to park with your own facilities on board and drive out the next morning; this casino was especially inviting as they didn’t charge anything, just asked that you sign up for their club card which also costs nothing. So after...

Dec 29, 2014 - Muskogee/Tahlequah Oklahoma

Boy! It was cold this morning! I didn't get out of the campground until 10:45 and there was still ice on the truck's windows and my sewer buddy was thick with ice. Temp said 29 degrees. It didn't rise above freezing until I hit Arkansas. Zipped across the top of that state before I hit Oklahoma. I love Oklahoma. I love Oklahomans. I hate Oklahoma roads! I've been to Tahlequah and thereabouts on four different routes now and they're all horribly bumpy. I remember my first trip there in 2010 in April on Hwy 40 and I actually thought I was...

MUSKOGEE, OK 8/23—This was just a stopover—Ned’s Grandfather was born here and he wanted to see the area. We are still having GPS troubles .” Off course” is displayed—Ned thinks he has missed our exit so he exits gets back on and then finds out he had not missed our exit . He keeps telling me that he has programed them but they won’t listen to him. One tells him to turn Right in two miles and the other tells him to turn Left in three miles. Would you guys believe we have travelled cross country several times- plus Germany- and Guam (doesn’t...

Jan 13, 2014 - Goodbye Kansas - Hello Muskogee! January 12 and 13

I pulled out of Coffeyville around noon on Sunday, January 12, my Pamela's birthday. It was actually a bittersweet moment leaving Amazon and my buddies as it was definitely a more pleasurable experience than the one I had in Fernley last year. Management here was super and made us all feel so welcome and appreciated. I always ate with the same group whom I met at orientation, and ended my stay by winning a $100 gift certificate in Amazon's Christmas drawing! It was a good stint. And that stint concludes my 2013 stab at fun and games. I...

Apr 16, 2011 - Muskogee, Oklahoma U.S.A.

It was a cool morning, we used the heat pump and fireplace while drinking our coffee and getting ourselves ready to hit the road. We pulled out at 8:30 and had a nice trip, driving 357 miles - NO WIND today! It was a long, long drive through Fort Worth and Dallas but we made it and it wasn’t too bad. Dan chose to get on U.S. 75 to U.S. 69 straight into Muskogee. The roads were good until we hit Oklahoma, but then it was probably only a total of about 30 miles or so of teeth chattering. Just by sheer luck and a need to find a place to stop...

Sullivan's Travels

Nov 19, 2010 - Muskogee, OK - Meadowbrook RV

Friday, November 19 - We traveled on Hwy 412 across Arkansas. The coach had to work pretty hard to climb some of the hills but we made it. It was a beautiful sunny day with temps around 56. The country side was scattered with cattle and horses. We crossed Beaver Lake and headed for Siloam Springs, the last town in AR before we crossed over into OK. Meadowbrook RV Park was our desitnation for the weekend in Muskogee, OK. We joined in the chorus and sang "we are proud to be an Okee from Muskogee." We arrived at Meadowbrook RV and was greeted...

Rojoe 2010-2011

May 9, 2010 - Muskogee, Music, Mother's Day

There are lots of sites to visit and things to see in Muskogee just 20 miles from Tahlequah. We all loaded up in our pickup to spend the day there on Friday. Our first stop was the Muskogee War Memorial, home of the USS Batfish Submarine. The sub was moved to Muskogee in 1972 and is open for tours. The memorial includes an 8 acre park with several pieces of equipment and a 2200 square foot museum with artifacts dating back to the Civil War. Everyone enjoyed the memorial and especially the opportunity to view the inside of an authentic...

Oct 1, 2009 - Muskogee 'Okies'

The most famous ‘Okie from Muskogee’ was neither - Thursday, October 1 When Merle Haggard wrote Okie from Muskogee he wasn’t from Muskogee, and he was born in California so he wasn’t even an Okie. But Merle’s most famous song put this place on the map as a hard working, all American town where people didn’t burn their draft cards and they don’t smoke dope. That was then (the Viet Nam era) and this is now, but Muskogee, Oklahoma is still a place that could make a person proud. Today we met a lot of folks who are Okies from Muscogee and they...

2009 Spring 2 Fall

Aug 12, 2009 - Day Twelve - From Tulsa to Muskogee, Oklahoma, USA

I have to admit that by the light of day (with the Winner’s Circle Bar closed and the riffraff nowhere to be seen), the Best Western by the airport in Tulsa didn’t seem quite as bad as it had last night. The only problem was I’d had a hard time getting to sleep, which was caused by a combination of the loud crowd hanging around outside the bar half the night and the sign near the door to my room that read, “Take all of your belongings out of your vehicle and lock them in your room.” My Tent Cot is way too heavy for me to lug out of the bed...

Nov 20, 2007 - I'm Just an Okie from Muskogee

We left the Ozarks and Missouri behind and headed southwest on I 44 to Oklahoma. The weather is expected to turn very cold so we decided not to spend any time in Oklahoma City, but to head straight to Texas. There was a funny comment from the weatherman during the supper-hour news: "The cold weather is coming! It's not Arctic cold, but it's Canadian cold!" Today was near record highs - our truck thermometer was as high as 27 degrees C this afternoon, but it's barely going to get above freezing on Thursday. Along with the change in...

Mar 31, 2007 - Checotah, OK

While continuing our drive east on I-40, we approached the area of Checotah, OK. A highway sign told us why the town's name seemed familiar -- it's the home town of the 2005 winner of American Idol, Carrie Underwood. Being a fan of Carrie Underwood, Ed wanted to stop. One thing's for certain... this is a good town to be from. This is a tiny little town with one stoplight, and very little else. Trouble had a nice walk down the main street, and we got some photos... which confirm how little there actually is here.

Sep 19, 2006 - Lake Eufuala

Stayed at Lake Eufuala State Park in Checotah, OK. Spent the night here last night and enjoyed the campground so much, we decided to spend another night here. We took two family bike rides for a total of five miles today. Hunter rode a total of 12-miles alone today. David & Hunter spent the late afternoon fishing on the lake. We also saw our first armadillo. We all thought he was so cute. While we were eating ice cream outside the Visitor Center, we watched an armadillo dig and eat bugs. He was funny to watch because he would walk and...
