Apr 24, 2014 - April 24, 2014 – Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma

April 24, 2014 – Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma Today I woke up to rain. It was nice just to lay in bed and listen to it. I watched some TV this morning and took a nap. After lunch, I had another nap. To say that I’ve been lazy today is an understatement. The sun came out around 1, and it has been a pleasant afternoon. Before that it had been cool and overcast. I called Wildwood Acres in Stillwater to see if they have a place for me for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. They do so I’m good to go. Then, I called Guyla to let her know...

Apr 23, 2014 - April 23, 2014 – Livingston, Texas to Lake Murray, Oklahoma

April 23, 2014 – Livingston, Texas to Lake Murray, Oklahoma This morning I got the coach weighed and, this year, they measured the height. I had been working on an estimate of 12’ 9”. It is actually 12’ 3” so my rule of not going under any overpass which is lower than 13’ is a good one. I’m still a little heavy, but there are things which need to come out when I get to Patsy’s. I’ll be able to move some books into the trunk of the car once I clear the trunk of the stuff for the thrift shop. When I hooked up the car, I discovered that I had...

Jun 6, 2013 - June 6, 2013 – Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma

June 6, 2013 – Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma I made the right decision to stay until tomorrow. It rained until almost noon today, and it threatened to rain again about 5. I’ve spent the day doing laundry so that I can empty the black and gray water tanks before I leave. Since all the campsites in Stillwater which have full hookups are filled with oil pipe line workers, I’m going to have to stay at Lake Carl Blackwell which has electric and water but not sewer. At least, I’ll be going in there with empty tanks. I don’t know what I’m...

June 5, 2013 – Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma Again, the weather radio went off about 3. It poured rain until noon, was cloudy until about 2 and then cleared off. Today I did crossword puzzles and again took an afternoon nap. I got the cities and sights to see from the Off the beaten path: Texas entered into my Texas list of places and things to see. The Weather Channel website shows thunderstorms moving in our direction. It looks like my weather radio will probably go off about 3 again in the morning. jnd

Jun 4, 2013 - June 4, 2013 – Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma

June 4, 2013 – Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma The weather radio went off at 3 this morning. We were under a severe thunderstorm warning until noon. It has poured rain this morning, and it rained until almost noon. I’ve spent the day reading. I checked with the hosts and although my 14 days are up tomorrow, they are going to allow me to stay until Friday. There are only 4 others in here right now, and the weather forecast is for severe storms for Wednesday and Thursday. I don’t want to drive either day. They agreed that they could stretch...

Jun 3, 2013 - June 3, 2013 – Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma

June 3, 2013 – Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma It was so nice sitting outside and reading yesterday afternoon. Today was a gorgeous day, but I spent most of it at the garage. The antifreeze in my car was really low, and I had added some because it was low. It had all leaked out some way. I thought it might be the water pump because that has happened before. However, it turned out to be the heater core. Fortunately, there was one available so now I don’t have to worry about the antifreeze leaking. When I got home from the garage, it was...

June 2, 2013 – Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma It is a gorgeous day here today. I’m going to sit out this afternoon and do some reading. The high temp is going to be in the high 70s so it will be perfect to sit outside. The noisy group was gone this morning when I woke up. So, there are 6 of us in here today. It is such a gorgeous day and the weather forecast is good so I expect there will be folks coming in this afternoon. jnd

Jun 1, 2013 - June 1, 2013 – Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma

June 1, 2013 – Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma It rained all morning so I slept in and then did almost nothing. I have a couple of new travel books so I read through them and marked the things which I thought I’d like to see. Now, I just have to mark the maps of Missouri and Texas and get the towns entered on my list. I’ll work on that some other day. It was so overcast and ugly out that, despite sleeping late this morning, I took a nap this afternoon. The weather radio went off about 3:30 to announce that we are under a tornado watch...

May 31, 2013 – Lake Murray, Oklahoma It got a little exciting here last night. The weather radio began going off every few minutes about 3 or so. We were under a tornado watch until 11, but it was clear here. The sun came out about 2 or so, and it was a lovely day. About 5:30 or 6, the sky began to look pretty dark. The weather radio announced that this area was under a severe storm warning with tennis ball or even baseball size hail possible. Almost immediately, the weather radio announced a tornado warning. It was for an area about 20...

May 30, 2013 - May 30, 2013 – Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma

May 30, 2013 – Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma Last evening was interesting. It began raining around 4 and never really stopped before I went to sleep about 11. It was raining then, and I don’t know when it stopped. Early in the evening, the electricity went off a couple of times but came right back on. About 9:30, it went off and didn’t come back on until after I went to sleep. It was on this morning when I woke up. I keep the propane turned off, but last night when the rain let up a little, I dashed out and turned it on so that the...

May 29, 2013 - May 29, 2013 – Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma

May 29, 2013 – Lake Murray State Park, Oklahoma Today I’m sticking close to home as this whole area is in danger of bad weather today. I want to be where I can monitor what is going on. The weather radio is on; the weather channel is on the TV, and I'm tracking things on my computer. I have my bicycle helmet, food, water, insurance papers, etc. ready to go in case the bad weather hits here today, and I have to head to the storm shelter. They're saying this area's most likely time is 9 p.m. to midnight so I'll have a late night. I’ve spent...

May 28, 2013 - May 28, 2013 – Lake Murray State Park, Ringling, Waurika, Oklahoma and Byers, Wichita Falls, Texas

May 28, 2013 – Lake Murray State Park, Ringling, Waurika, Oklahoma and Byers, Wichita Falls, Texas As I left this morning, I took pictures of the camp grounds where there were so many tents on Saturday and Sunday. I think there was 1 tent left in each of them. There were no cars at all parked alongside the road. There were only 7 of us in the RV area. I passed through Ringling on my way to Waurika. Unfortunately, there was not a circus in sight. And, their school mascot is a Blue Devil. Waurika has a Santa Fe Depot which has been restored...
