May 1, 2013 - Summer Travels Have Begun
From Choctaw RV Park – Durant, OK We officially began our “summer travels” today; May 1st. I say officially because we did leave the park in Edna on Monday and drove to our “home base” park in Pearland spending two nights. This was to have a belated birthday celebration dinner with our son on Monday evening. This also gave us a chance to restock some needed items that we have not been able to find since leaving Pearland mid-February. With our stay in Claremore last night, we (Winnie and I, Sue is a couple states behind) can officially add Oklahoma to our list of states we have visited, only 13 more to go including Alaska and Hawaii. I don’t think Winnie will make it to Hawaii, but she may get to Alaska in the next couple of years if she stays healthy. Today’s run was entirely in Oklahoma on route 69. Aug 19, 2009 - Almost Didn't Make It
We had a short day driving today - only a little over 300 miles. However we came very close not to making it in. We were on a two lane road when all of a sudden you could hear a truck revving up for all it was worth. Coming toward us was 3-4 vehicles including an 18 wheeler. The noise was coming from a pick-up trying to pass us, up hill and around a slight curve. He misjudged the time and speed it would take. Car one coming toward us saw him and moved over.
