Oct 22, 2018 - Day 2 on the Road

We slept great last night and awoke at 7:00 this morning. That didn’t give us much time to get ready for the road but we were ready to go and rolled out of the Campground at 8:50. Denny & Jackie had left about ten minutes earlier because they were stopping for fuel, and then would catch up to us. They did just that as Marilyn and Jackie texted back & forth to stay aware of just where we all were in relation to one another. We passed through one construction area where the open lane was only ten feet wide with concrete barriers on each side....

Jan 6, 2018 - A day in Durant, Oaklahoma

We knew we would need a day to rest so we stayed 2 nights in Durant. We learned the Choctaw Indians were the tribe that started the " code talkers " during WW1. I won a little the first day we were here but put it back the 2nd day. I enjoyed it. Off tomorrow for San Antonio !!

Jun 8, 2014 - Choctaw Casino Durant, OK

Sunday, June 8. We were not scheduled to leave for our vacation until Monday, June 9, but as usual, when we start getting ready by loading the trailer, etc., we decide to go ahead and hit the road. Bill was so anxious to get out-of-town on Sunday that although it was 6:30 pm, we headed to Choctaw. Arriving at the KOA Camp at Choctaw at approximately 8 pm, and set-up just the essentials because we would be heading out Monday morning. Took the KOA shuttle over to the casino, hitting the slots after 9 pm Sunday night. Photo is for our friend,...

Nov 20, 2013 - Back to Durant, OK where we started out over a week ago

Sunday, November, 17, 2013 – Rock Springs, WY to Loveland, Co The weather was a very cold 23 degrees with a wind chill of 6 degrees. The wind was blowing strong. We heard the roads were clear for travel so we decided to head out slowly. We saw two overturned 18-wheelers. When we got to Loveland we parked at the Cracker Barrel Restaurant. Lowell’s cousin, Ann and her husband, Gene arrived shortly after we parked. After a nice meal and visit, we went to Ann and Gene’s house. What a beautiful home! We met their son, Daniel, and their dog,...

Nov 14, 2013 - Durant, OK

We start our day at an IHOP that is nearby. We then head back to the park to pick up our trailer. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing is in Fort Worth. They have a tour! Our timing is back to normal. We arrive at the Visitor Center Parking Lot. After passing through security, a bus is waiting for us. The driver is a fisherman. John and the driver hit it off immediately. We are driven to the main building. A short movie is starting in five minutes. There is a self-guided walking tour. We watch a lot of money being printed! After the tour,...

Nov 8, 2013 - Rally at Choctaw Casino in Durant, OK

Being that we are parked at a casino and we just bought a Bigfoot trailer and a new 4X4 Ford Diesel you might be thinking we won BIG TIME at the Casino. But no, that is not the way the story goes unfortunately. We have been looking for a good deal on a Bigfoot trailer because it has a walk-around queen bed. Vicki has to be on the Casita bed to tuck in the sheets. She recently made a sort-of sleeping bag cover and sheets that fit inside that just lays on top the mattress. That way we just crawl in and she doesn't have to make the bed by...

Jul 18, 2013 - Gambling in Indian Country

July 18, 2013. Getting in and out of this little park is not easy. Oh I could make the turns all right, even back up out of the space rather than drive through, but the big issue was whether we were too tall for some of the wires draped through the park. The park manager Robert had to follow me around in his golf cart and long pole to be ready to lift up wires so I could slip underneath. It took us about 30-45 minutes to get ourselves out of the park. But once we were out we coasted up Mopac and I35. Our destination is Fort Smith Arkansas,...

May 1, 2013 - Summer Travels Have Begun

From Choctaw RV Park – Durant, OK We officially began our “summer travels” today; May 1st. I say officially because we did leave the park in Edna on Monday and drove to our “home base” park in Pearland spending two nights. This was to have a belated birthday celebration dinner with our son on Monday evening. This also gave us a chance to restock some needed items that we have not been able to find since leaving Pearland mid-February. We left Pearland at 8:30 a.m. and drove 334 miles into Oklahoma where we will have a two night stay here on...

Home Sweet RV - 2013

Jul 22, 2012 - Oklahoma OK

With our stay in Claremore last night, we (Winnie and I, Sue is a couple states behind) can officially add Oklahoma to our list of states we have visited, only 13 more to go including Alaska and Hawaii. I don’t think Winnie will make it to Hawaii, but she may get to Alaska in the next couple of years if she stays healthy. Today’s run was entirely in Oklahoma on route 69. Not a bad road as it is 4-lane, divided highway most of the way except when passing through the towns on the route. The biggest city along the way was Muscogee. We visited...

Aug 19, 2009 - Almost Didn't Make It

We had a short day driving today - only a little over 300 miles. However we came very close not to making it in. We were on a two lane road when all of a sudden you could hear a truck revving up for all it was worth. Coming toward us was 3-4 vehicles including an 18 wheeler. The noise was coming from a pick-up trying to pass us, up hill and around a slight curve. He misjudged the time and speed it would take. Car one coming toward us saw him and moved over. So for a second or two there were three of us side by side on a two lane road. Car 2...
