Mar 18, 2018 - Oak Glen RV Park

And another great day it was. Roads smooth, traffic light, intermittent showers and 314 miles later here we are in another state at a small mom and pop park. We stayed here on way south enjoyed it, great TV and fast internet. Paid our tolls going thru Oklahoma city today to discover it is 1/5th of the cost going east vice westerly, don't get it but it works, turnpike is like a race track and light traffic. Temps are a pleasant hi 69 right now, i see cold further north hope it moves before we arrive lol. On to Missouri tomorrow and a shorter...

Jan 8, 2018 - Oak Glen RV Park

And a great day it was. Temps have improved to the point where the furnace didnt even come on all nite. No frost on windows and FOG. We left the rocks of Indiana for the rolling roads and caverns of Oklahoma. 61F was high today, so winter coats and boots have been put away for hoodies and sneakers. We checked into another mom and pop park, flushed all the lines and tanks of the winterizing fluid so we are good to go with onboard water now. We had to spend 11.25 twice for tolls but the roads are super so looks money is well spent. Rig got...

Aug 10, 2017 - Chandler, OK.

We had a campground picked out north of Tulsa, which would have put us at about +/-370 miles, but when we got there it was 2:30 and we decided to go through Tulsa to beat the morning rush hour. We hit the evening rush hour in construction, Yea. We then could not find a campground until halfway to Oklahoma City. About 450 miles total. We started out in rain in the morning and it got worse as we went along. A couple of very heavy downpours. Kept looking for those Oklahoma funnel clouds.

Oct 3, 2015 - On the road again, part 3

Woke up to a crispy morning again in Branson. Took our time getting up and around because our trip today is a little shorter than the others. We are headed out for the Winstar Casino close to the Oklahoma/Texas state line as we work our way back home. Today we will go part way, spend the night in Chandler, OK which is about halfway to the Winstar destination. We've been following a rule of driving no more than 300 miles per day, shooting for reaching our destinations no later than 3:00 pm so there is time to set up, kick back and enjoy what...

Stopover in Oak Glen campground near Chandler, OK tonight. The McDonald's on the Turnpike is closed down. Bummer - was looking forward to fries and a coke. Keep on going! Paula has a first cousin who lives in Mounds, OK which is within 50 miles of here. So, we made a quick visit to see Darla Johnson and her family. Nice get-together!

Aug 27, 2012 - OTRA - OK - Chandler

Our journey today took us 141 miles on the interstates and 4 miles on historic Route 66 to the Oak Glen RV Park on the outskirts of Chandler, OK. We are going to stay here for a week because it's rather difficult finding campsites on holiday weekends. After getting set up and out for our "discovery" travels around the area, we came upon a gigantic soda bottle, along with a really colorful building. Stopped and went into the building and wow! thousands of colorful soda bottles along the glass walls and in the freezers and on the shelves. We...

Nov 7, 2011 - Weather update

We just had an earthquake - 4.7 and the center was 20 miles from us. Hmmmm - could be an interesting night! ------------------------- No tornadoes here. And no really heavy winds. Not sure about the warned flooding. We did have strong T-storms and heavy rain. Looks like a slow start onto the road today. Still raining lightly and I need to do some repair work on the bike racks. Later!

Nov 7, 2011 - Oklahoma - a new state!

It rained overnight - rain and acorns! After clearing the slide roofs and closing up, we ran a few errands this morning. We received our paperwork from Olathe Ford in Kansas City last Friday and we had to get that, our paperwork and arrange for a cashiers check to be sent from the Credit Union for tax, title, etc. off to South Dakota. So we took care of all that - "taking care of business" as our friend Tom Stearns says! We finally got on the road around 12:30. It rained a little off and on while we rolled down the highway through...

Nov 7, 2011 - Oak Glen RV Park, Chandler, OK and Riverview RV & Recreational Park, Colbert, OK

It's raining this morning and we are heading into the eye of the storm. Supposed to have severe thunderstorms with possible tornadoes. It's really dry here so they need the rain but I can do without the tornadoes. No real problems except we forgot to shut the inverter down before we plugged the electricity in. Don't know yet if any damage was done. Campsite was big. All level and on a concrete pad. No picnic table. Will add pictures later. We arrived in Colbert, OK around 3:00 p.m. today. Cloudy and misted rain most of the day. Temps in the...

Oct 19, 2011 - Getting Our Kicks Along Route 66

From Twin Fountains RV Park – Oklahoma City, OK We set out today to drive a few of the record setting Route 66 miles in Oklahoma. That’s right; Oklahoma has more miles of Route 66 than any other state in the nation. Our present home base park is just minutes from this historical highway as it meanders right through Oklahoma City and passes the state capitol grounds. However the piece of Route 66 we planned on driving today laid N/NW of OKC…………..Edmond to Chandler! During our travels we have crossed paths with this storied and legendary...

Home Sweet RV - 2011

Jul 3, 2011 - From Texas to Oklahoma

Visit Oak Glen RV Park While on our way to Oklahoma by way of Texas. We stayed at a lovely RV Park called Oak Glen and I cooked a nice steak dinner for us. The man who owns the RV Park told us that his wife had passed away and that he was now the care taker of the RV Park and enjoyed carrying on where his wife left off. The RV Park is right off Route 66 and the 44 Turnpike. Of course we found a Super Center Walmart on Route 66 and had to pick up a few things, oh and we can't forget a movie from Redbox. I just love redbox, they are...

Jul 3, 2010 - Oak Glen

We left Saturday morning with only a reservation in Chandler, OK. We want to go north to get out of the TX heat. We took US377 to avoid the construction on I-35 and while it made for a more interesting drive than the interstate the routing took us through some small towns. We had an “oops” in Ada – we missed a truck route sign. The GPS got us again - trying to taking us through some small streets. We quickly opted to back into a street and turn around. We arrived at the RV park around 4pm. They had a lot of rain and the site was a little...
