Aug 27, 2012 - OTRA - OK - Chandler

Our journey today took us 141 miles on the interstates and 4 miles on historic Route 66 to the Oak Glen RV Park on the outskirts of Chandler, OK. We are going to stay here for a week because it's rather difficult finding campsites on holiday weekends. After getting set up and out for our "discovery" travels around the area, we came upon a gigantic soda bottle, along with a really colorful building. Stopped and went into the building and wow! thousands of colorful soda bottles along the glass walls and in the freezers and on the shelves. We...

Nov 7, 2011 - Weather update

We just had an earthquake - 4.7 and the center was 20 miles from us. Hmmmm - could be an interesting night! ------------------------- No tornadoes here. And no really heavy winds. Not sure about the warned flooding. We did have strong T-storms and heavy rain. Looks like a slow start onto the road today. Still raining lightly and I need to do some repair work on the bike racks. Later!

Nov 7, 2011 - Oak Glen RV Park, Chandler, OK and Riverview RV & Recreational Park, Colbert, OK

It's raining this morning and we are heading into the eye of the storm. Supposed to have severe thunderstorms with possible tornadoes. It's really dry here so they need the rain but I can do without the tornadoes. No real problems except we forgot to shut the inverter down before we plugged the electricity in. Don't know yet if any damage was done. Campsite was big. All level and on a concrete pad. No picnic table. Will add pictures later. We arrived in Colbert, OK around 3:00 p.m. today. Cloudy and misted rain most of the day. Temps in the...

Nov 7, 2011 - Oklahoma - a new state!

It rained overnight - rain and acorns! After clearing the slide roofs and closing up, we ran a few errands this morning. We received our paperwork from Olathe Ford in Kansas City last Friday and we had to get that, our paperwork and arrange for a cashiers check to be sent from the Credit Union for tax, title, etc. off to South Dakota. So we took care of all that - "taking care of business" as our friend Tom Stearns says! We finally got on the road around 12:30. It rained a little off and on while we rolled down the highway through...

Oct 19, 2011 - Getting Our Kicks Along Route 66

From Twin Fountains RV Park – Oklahoma City, OK We set out today to drive a few of the record setting Route 66 miles in Oklahoma. That’s right; Oklahoma has more miles of Route 66 than any other state in the nation. Our present home base park is just minutes from this historical highway as it meanders right through Oklahoma City and passes the state capitol grounds. However the piece of Route 66 we planned on driving today laid N/NW of OKC…………..Edmond to Chandler! During our travels we have crossed paths with this storied and legendary...

Home Sweet RV - 2011

Jul 3, 2011 - From Texas to Oklahoma

Visit Oak Glen RV Park While on our way to Oklahoma by way of Texas. We stayed at a lovely RV Park called Oak Glen and I cooked a nice steak dinner for us. The man who owns the RV Park told us that his wife had passed away and that he was now the care taker of the RV Park and enjoyed carrying on where his wife left off. The RV Park is right off Route 66 and the 44 Turnpike. Of course we found a Super Center Walmart on Route 66 and had to pick up a few things, oh and we can't forget a movie from Redbox. I just love redbox, they are...

D & D World Travel

Jul 3, 2010 - Oak Glen

We left Saturday morning with only a reservation in Chandler, OK. We want to go north to get out of the TX heat. We took US377 to avoid the construction on I-35 and while it made for a more interesting drive than the interstate the routing took us through some small towns. We had an “oops” in Ada – we missed a truck route sign. The GPS got us again - trying to taking us through some small streets. We quickly opted to back into a street and turn around. We arrived at the RV park around 4pm. They had a lot of rain and the site was a little...

Sep 30, 2007 - Miami, OK to Chandler, OK

When I jumped out of bed this morning, I started singing "Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain, and the wavin' wheat can sure smell sweet when the wind comes right behind the rain". When I called Brent later that morning, the first thing he did was start singing "Oklahoma". Must run in the family. The Coleman Theatre in Miami, an art-deco building built in 1929, was playing Oklahoma last night. If I had known, I would have gone. An eleborate building but no picture opportunity for me...it's in my mind though. My route...

Route 66

Sep 29, 2007 - O'Fallon, MO to Chandler, OK ~ 452 miles

Glen & Val helped me pack all my stuff into the SUV after a great home cooked breakfast. I said my goodbyes and headed for the RV Service Center to transfer my stuff into the coach and load the SUV onto the trailer. When that was done, I cranked over the engine only to discover that the brake controller was again displaying a short. I grabbed the tech (I wanted to do it about his throat, but realized that no one would be available to fix the problem). He checked his work at the axles and found them to be good. He then checked the hitch...
