Oct 14, 2020 - Great food and stupid drivers
10/14 PM As we knew we would, we had a great visit with Joan, Vance, Cheryl Ann and TJ. We have not seen Joan and Vance in about 25 years. I used to shoot with the guys every year at the NRA Bianchi Cup National Action Pistol Championships in MO. We had a potluck affair at TJ & Cheryl Ann’s horse farm. They raise quarter horses. It was wonderful seeing you all and the steaks with all the trimmings were great folks! Except for the visits, the trip thus far has been ok. We have had some poor road conditions, rain one day, wind several days...

Sep 28, 2020 - The Sooner State
We left Arkansas and drove along a fun side road, Highway 62, to Checotah, Oklahoma. We haven’t done too much in the state of Oklahoma so we decided that would be one of our stops on the way to Texas. Checotah was named for Samuel Checote, the first chief of the Creek Nation elected after the Civil War. This tiny town of 3,300 people is home to numerous excellent antique shops and a Civil War battle site but its main claim to fame is it is the childhood home of Carrie Underwood who won the title “American Idol” in 2005 and went on to become...

Jul 13, 2020 - Oklahoma Memorial
Oklahoma City Memorial. Well, we traveled two looooooong days between Mesa Verde NP and the Oklahoma City Memorial. I think most Americans know of the Memorial and the event of 19 April 1995. I won’t go into the description of the event that occurred at 9:02 that day; however, I will say if you have never visited this Memorial and Museum, and you are anywhere with 100 miles of it, you should really take the time to visit. As an extra: being there at dusk in special. The lights you see in the pics taken represent a lighted chair for each...

Jul 9, 2020 - Oklahoma City
Thur., July 9th – It was a long, hot drive across upper Texas into Oklahoma with temps at 104* at the rest stop along our route. We were very quick to unhook and head for Pearl’s Crabtown restaurant for a great seafood dinner in downtown Oklahoma City. Our evening was spent strolling the winding canal of the downtown riverwalk and taking in the world’s largest bronze sculpture collection depicting the 1889 “land run” that marked the beginning of the settlement of Oklahoma. This will be the last point of interest on this year’s 6 week...

May 30, 2020 - Moving day is here
Today is the day that we head to Montana. We started getting ready around 8:15 so to be on the road around 9:00. Well this being the first day on moving and being out of practice it took us a bit longer to get things rolling. It is always that way when we have been stationary for a long period of time and it takes a few times in hooking up to get back into the swing of things. Terry and Christy came out and helped us break down. I am still on light duty and not suppose to bend over, reach over my head or lift over 10 lbs. They were a big...

Apr 1, 2020 - Captain's Log - 2020.04.01
Change happens… It’s amazing how things have changed in the world, in this country, and in our own lives since I posted my last Log entry. Sorry that it’s been so long since I sent out a new edition of my “Captain’s Log” but for a while, things were pretty routine with nothing significant to report. The last time I sent out an update was on December 25, 2019. We were hanging out on our leased lot in Benson, Arizona where we had gotten involved in our volunteer activities and were planning to stay there until mid-March. We even had a chance...

Just a quick update for now. Hope everyone is doing well and keeping ahead of this nasty virus that is moving around the world. We are doing fine. We left the valley this morning and are making a very fast trip home. It has been a good trip even though it rained for a lot of the day, so far with the only stops at 2 gas stations and one rest stop. Meals were eaten in the van. We haven't had any problem finding what we needed. We stopped for the night in Oklahoma City and out of curiosity I asked the clerk if there was a breakfast. She smiled...

Feb 2, 2020 - February 2, 2020 – Stillwater, Oklahoma
February 2, 2020 – Stillwater, Oklahoma Well, the groundhog saw his shadow so there will be 6 more weeks of winter. Just to prove that point, while it was 76 today and tomorrow is supposed to be 70, there is supposed to be 1”-2” of snow Tuesday night into Wednesday. I am going to head to Texas tomorrow. I want to get out ahead of the storm. Also Patsy is leaving on Saturday for her trip to Egypt. I need to get out of her way so she can finish her preparations for that trip. I called Sue this evening, and she and her mother were having a...

Feb 1, 2020 - February 1, 2020 – Stillwater, Oklahoma
February 1, 2020 – Stillwater, Oklahoma Donnie had persuaded Guyla to clean out Donald’s room today. Patsy and I got our signals crossed because we thought they were going to call us as they left the house to go over there. So, we got there after most of the work was done. We did follow them back to the house and help unload. Afterwards, Connie, Debbie, Patsy and I sat and visited for an hour or so. Patsy and I had stopped at Red Rock and got some goodies. The rest of the day has been quiet. Patsy and I both took naps this afternoon. This...

Jan 31, 2020 - January 31, 2020 – Stillwater, Oklahoma
January 31, 2020 – Stillwater, Oklahoma A group of retired OSU librarians got together for lunch. It was fun to see folks that I used to work with. We were all glad that Guyla came. The talk was light and full of reminisces about our time working together which was good for Guyla. After lunch Patsy took her car to have the tires checked because the low pressure light was on. We also ran a couple of errands. We came home and both of us took naps. We went to Connie’s for supper. Debbie had brought salad and soup when she came up from Texas...

Jan 30, 2020 - January 30, 2020 – Stillwater, Oklahoma
January 30, 2020 – Stillwater, Oklahoma Donald’s funeral was this morning at 10. There was a small group of people, and the OSU library was well represented. Fortunately or unfortunately, like many of us in the older category, we have outlived our contemporaries so the attendance at the funeral was small. There was a volley at the beginning of the service and the playing of taps. That was quite moving. The service was simple but very nice. After the service, Connie, Debbie, Patsy and I climbed in the car to make the 2 hour drive to Fort...
