Sep 23, 2013 - Zanesville, Ohio

We traveled Interstate Highway 90 through New York and followed it along the coast of Lake Erie through Pennsylvania. Tonight we're camped at Zanesville, Ohio. We've been seeing pretty fall foliage, but the further south and west we go the less we're seeing. It's also getting warmer. The pictures posted in this update were taken from the turnpike where stopping is not allowed and here in the RV park at Zanesville, Ohio. We're traveling about 250 miles per day and expect to be in Branson by Friday, Sept 27.

Sep 10, 2013 - Zanesville, Ohio ( second day)

September 10, 2013 Zanesville, Ohio Our last full day of visiting the area in Zanesville started out at the Locks along the Muskingum River. The only lock we visited was lock #8, 20 miles south of Zanesville on hwy 60 that follows the river. There are several locks along the river that is mostly used by recreational boaters. The hand operated locks are operated on the weekends during the summer and are closed from mid-October through mid-May. There isn’t much of a drop for each lock; at the most maybe 10 feet. Heading back toward...

Sep 9, 2013 - Zanesville, Ohio

September 8, 2013 Zanesville, Ohio We drove about 175 miles from Morgantown, West Virginia to Zanesville, Ohio. In the process, we passed through Pennsylvania then to West Virginia again then to Ohio; all the time traveling west. We stopped at the Pilot Truck stop in Cambridge, Ohio for fuel; diesel was $4.089/ gallon. It was a nice drive, first on I-70 then on I-68. It was mostly mountainous terrain or what passes for mountainous terrain for this part of the country. The mountain passes are less than 2200 feet; also lots of farming in this...

Sep 7, 2013 - Zanesville, Ohio

Our stating time today was around 1000 as headed west toward Zanesville, Ohio where we have reservations for the a three night stay. The Hill's have been at this campground numerous times but this a first for the Ables. The total distance was only 179 miles. We stopped at the Ohio Welcome Center for maps and brochures and again for fuel in Cambridge, Ohio. We arrived here around 1330. Traffic today through West Virginia and Pennsylvania seemed heavy for a Sunday morning but traffic thinned out a bit after entering Ohio. The scenery through...

Our 2012 trip to MD.

Jul 20, 2012 - Day 3; lots of airplanes

Today was a busy day! We got up and went for a bike ride around the camp. We saw the cabins, found some goats and a llama at a farm nearby. After the bike ride, we started packing up the camper. We left at 11:40 am for the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton. It was awesome. I loved all the early years airplanes and the newer airplanes that were in WWII. I bought captain wings with my name on it (Captain Kayla) and a keychain. We also so bought some astronaut chocolate ice cream with chocolate chips. It was good! We...

Jun 4, 2012 - back where we began

Here we are, at Wolfie's in Zanesville, right where we were on the night of April 3. It has been a great trip, we'll be glad to get back home so we can start planning our next sojourn. In July we'll be together with all our children and our oldest friends, celebrating in Vermont. In the fall we plan to head south to the Carolinas to see the Lynns and the Phillips', maybe leave the trailer there (a new one, we hope!!!)which we will catch up with right after Christmas, so we can spend January and February someplace warm. Meanwhile, thanks to...

Apr 3, 2012 - YES!

We’ve traveled between Baltimore and Deep Creek so many times that this part of the trip was pretty uneventful for us. Interesting to see how unlike Spring it looks the farther you get west. We left our house at 8:45, it was sunny and 39 degrees – give me a break! We left Keystone RV at 10:45, arrived in Zanesville around 4:30. Nice drive altogether. A list of things we own for traveling but don’t know how to work correctly: • The tire minder (tells you if the tires lose pressure or you’re about to have a blowout) • Trailer brake controller...

Dec 11, 2011 - The National Road - US 40

I decided to ride US 40 through Indiana and into Ohio today. It's a four lane divided highway and has pretty good pavement. We can travel almost as fast as on the interstate and the only downside is an occaisional traffic light when you come to a town. Overall it's more relaxing driving than the interstate and you get to see some interesting things. I stopped at another DDD for lunch. The Steer In is a 50-year-old diner with a drive in just outside of Indianapolis. I had the scratch-made Italian meatball sub featured on the "Soup and...

Jul 28, 2011 - Wild Animals In Ohio

We were in Zanesville,Ohio last year and wanted to see more of the area. We got to visit the "y" bridge over the river in downtown and this time was to go to "THE WILDS" that is about thirty miles out in the country. We did not know that Ohio had so much land that is in the country. We drove thirty miles on back roads and got to see a house here and there in the country. NO gas station or store on the roads that don't have any yellow line down the middle of the road. We arrived at the "WILDS" with less then 1/4 of a tank of gas ,I was going...

Sep 27, 2010 - first day on the road

We left Hagerstown at 8:30 in steady rain, which traveled with us through most of W. Virginia, Pennsylvania, and nearly into Ohio. Ron was threatening to go to a motel if it was raining when we arrived in Zanesville, but, too bad, it was very cloudy and cool, but no rain! 290 miles in 6.5 hours, which included 2 stops for gasoline, and a lot of driving through the Allegheny mountains, so we're quite pleased. Ron averaged 40-43 miles per hour on inclines! We're getting almost 10 mpg, which is great! The leaves are turning in W. Maryland,...

Aug 19, 2010 - Longaberger Baskets and Ohio Amish

We drove thru the small town of Heath, Ohio to visit the Best Buy store. Ed’s computer has been grumpy and slow for the past week and needed a visit to the Geek Squad. After ’Mr. Geek’ worked with it, it seems to function a bit better. He suggested it may need to spend a couple days with a technician along the way, so that’s in the back of Ed’s mind, but, for now, it’s plugging along. We pulled into the Wolfie’s Campground in Zaneville, Ohio and found a very pleasant site. We extended our stay from two to three nights as the Longaberger...
