Sep 15, 2011 - LOT LIZARDS- *warning adult content*

Got up this morning and went on our way through the rest of Pennsylvania. We stopped at a Pilot which is one of four major truck stop chains (Pilot, Flying J, Loves, and TA) that offer showers at a low price, coffee, food (usually an attached Subway or Wendy's), and various electronic items necessary for trucking life. We became "Frequent Fueler Members" so every time we fuel up we earn credits towards a free shower which is like GOLD out here on the road. Yes, we have a shower in the RV, and we will use it soon, but it takes water, a lot...

The Journey

Sep 10, 2011 - Ohio At Last

I swear, Pennsylvania seems like the longest state in the US, perhaps because its freeways are in such horrible shape. We spent the day bouncing our way towards Ohio, praying that dishes and the grandfather clock in the back would survive. We also learned, the hard way, the difference between a "Truck Travel Center" and a conventional gas station. Our truck is diesel and, having filled up at very reasonable Dysart's Truck Stop in Bangor, we expected future "in-and-outs" to be no more than 10 minutes. Wrong! We stopped for diesel at a Travel...

Sep 14, 2010 - Niagra Falls, NY

Finally met up with Jerry & Elaine and Ron and Jac. Beautiful campground - large spaces. Got lost finding the campground but eventually found it. Went to Niagra Falls on the States side. Really beautiful. Took the Maiden in the Mist boat ride. Had lunch at Denny's. We left because we had to take Oscar back to the RV because he couldn't go anyplace. Beautiful weather. Went to Fort Niagra - really interesting. Went back at night with Ron & Jac to see the falls at night. Disappointed - thought there would be a light show but it was just...

Oct 9, 2009 - Youngstown, Ohio

Left Vein Mtn after a successful 6 months of dredging in the South Muddy Creek. Off to Youngstown, Ohio, Dad wants to see new 5th wheel. Stopped home to see dad, good thing I hit a tree branch somewhere and broke the vent in the Bathroom. A friend (Mark Toth) told me about this little RV shop in Boardman Ohio. I pulled up and was not impressed a little garage with no parking. But I left totally surprised, told him my problem, and that I would like Max-Airs installed and he climbed up onto the roof, fixed the vent, installed 3 MAXX-Aires,...

The Search for Gold

Jun 5, 2009 - A rainy day and then on to Youngstown, OH

Our last day in Amish Country was a rainy one but since the rest of the week had been beautiful we weren’t going to complain. Our only plan for the day was to have lunch at a well-known Amish style restaurant, Mrs. Yoder’s Kitchen in Mt. Hope, OH. We got to Mrs. Yoder’s at around one o’clock but found that there was still a crowd waiting to get in so we decided to go across the road to the Mt. Hope Hardware store to kill a little time. Just inside the door of the hardware store was a large table displaying a few dozen hardware and farm...

Apr 12, 2008 - Leaving Elkhart - Départ de Elkhart

Saturday morning we left Elkhart and headed towards home. Our plan is to cross the border Monday morning at Thousand Islands. It rained on and off all day, but no water infiltration. The repairs were well done. We missed a route change in Milwaukee and ended up a little out of our way but we should be able to make it up on Sunday. We spent the night at the Flying J truck stop in Youngstown Ohio. Samedi matin nous sommes partis de Elkhart pour la maison. Nous prévoyons traverser les douanes lundi matin aux Milles Iles. Une température...
