Jun 11, 2012 - Hello? Is this thing on?

D minus 16 days and counting until we set off. The plan is to spend from June 27th to August 5th on the road and testing out the lifestyle. We're going to free-form it, probably getting to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Wisconsin including Door County, Minnesota, Ontario's North Shore of Lake Superior, and who knows what else. In the middle of the trip, Kent will be sailing the Chicago-Mackinac sailing race on Lake Michigan from Chicago to Mackinac Island (duh!) aboard Quick Silver, a 41-footer from St.Joseph, Michigan while Sandy and...

May 6, 2012 - De Syracuse à Toledo, Ohio (721 km)

As we end our journey back home, we are sad to leave the road, but it is always nice to return home to friends and family. Another chapter of our trips will close this time and await the next journey we will take. I really enjoyed this web site so that all friends and family can enjoy where and where we have been and what we have seen. Thanks to all that followed us on our journey. Interesting facts, we drove 3414 miles round trip. The amazing note is the trip was 1707 from our house to Glen and Marge's in Mission Texas one way. Using a...

2012 Texas Trip

Mar 16, 2012 - Friday March 16, 2012

We were able to leave at 11:30 am which is earlier then we thought we would get away. Planned on driving about 350 miles to south of Louisville Kentucky. We go to Exit 58 which was where we wanted to be, it was only 6:30 pm and to early to stop. With both of us driving we decided to continue on until we were ready to stop. As I was putting gas in the motorhome, I heard the familiar sound of horseshoes on the pavement going by the Love's Travel Center. I looked up and 2 Amish buggies were going past, did not realize that the Amish were in...

Sep 16, 2011 - Meet me at Grumpy's!

Hot showers for free at the Blue Heron rest stop in Genoa Ohio!!! Yay!! We took an unexpected nap at the last rest area in Ohio around noon and we NEEDED it! Feeling so much better. Ohio is truly the land of the flat! You can see for miles out here and you can actually SEE the curve of the earth-way cool. We stopped at a local breakfast place called Grumpy's and the food was fabulous! Potentially Joe's and my favorite chicken sandwich of all time! If you have the occasion, GO! it is located in Toledo Ohio and on,y serves breakfast and...

The Journey

Dec 27, 2010 - Northern Ohio

Our trip this year to Texas started with chilly but calm weather on the 27th of December. With help from James and V, we were able to de-decorate the house and to finish packing the motorhome just 2 days after Christmas. The roads south to Detroit and down Interstate 75 were clear of snow. The stop at the boarder was quick this time with no stops in the large x-ray garage as has happened in past years. We stopped not long after sunset at the Ohio Visitor’s Centre just south of Toledo, which has a parking area tucked in behind the building,...

Sep 23, 2010 - Toldeo, OH & Monroe, MI

We are enjoying our week in Monroe - especially when we check TN temperatures and we are several degrees cooler. In addition to driving around Monroe to do some shopping, we have driven into Toledo a couple of times. We had lunch at Tony Packo’s - yes the one that Jamie Farr (Max Klinger) mentioned in several MASH episodes. The Hungarian hotdogs topped with chili were good! Many famous people have eaten the and signed hot dog buns that are framed and hang on the walls around the restaurant. Downtown Toledo has a nice path along the river...

Sep 18, 2010 - Slow going...

Today started out well, but soon after we were under way, traffic began to slow. Warning signs said the left lane was closed for about 10 miles ahead, but that seemed too far away for this hold-up. As the traffic continued to crawl -- often below 10 mph -- we began to hear a siren, and a fire truck followed shortly by an ambulance went by on the shoulder of the highway. By the time we had gone about 4 miles, we passed one of them on the side of the road with a disabled auto, and no sign of an accident. But the traffic began to move well....

Aug 7, 2010 - Home, bittersweet home.

It's difficult to believe that our adventure is complete. While it feels good to be home, with a little more room to stretch, long hot showers, and a good solid mattress, somehow I wish the fun could have continued. There is always so much more to see and do than time allows, but we will forever treasure the time that we did have. More important than the destinations was the journey getting there. We've formed memories and forged bonds that no amount of time or distance can take away. We are grateful for all the many blessings we...

Mar 30, 2010 - Our First two days

Our flight from Toledo to Detroit was on time and very smooth. We had a relaxing 3 hours in the Detroit airport. Our flight to Amsterdam also left on time, in fact we landed in Amsterdam 30 minutes early. The Amsterdam airport is quite nice. We got through customs without a hitch and then we browsed for about 2 hours. The open areas of the airport look like a mini IKEA! The furnishings are very similar. Our flight to Athens was about 30 minutes late, which meant we missed the van to take us to the car rental place so we waited another 45...

Aug 28, 2009 - Wisconsin Dells, WI to Toledo, OH

Friday August 28, 2009 Today we woke up with the knowledge that we were going to encounter rain most of the day. It was in the fifties in Wisconsin Dell, so we put our rain gear on and set out on 90 East. After crossing the border into Illinois, we met our first rain cloud. Thank goodness it wasn't a downpour. Instead of riding in the rain in the city, we chose to divert around Chicago by way of 39/51 south to 80 East. This probably took us 50-60 miles out of the way, but we both agreed that it would be better than being in city traffic if...

Aug 18, 2009 - The Start

I am so ready to start planning this dream trip for myself. I hope this website enables me to keep my dream alive, and do what I really want to do in my life. I live, breath, and would die doing what I love, traveling. It is what makes me whole. It is what gives me reason to live. It is what I need to get through day by day. I feel myself when I am somewhere new. When the earth, the sea, the green grass, and new environments of the world are around me. It is what wakes me up everyday. It is what makes me sleep soundly at night. It is me.
