Nov 18, 2012 - Lebanon, Ohio

11/18 – 11/26 In the afternoon of the eighteenth, we drove to Phoenix and registered at a Howard Johnson’s motel by the airport. Included in the price of a night’s stay was parking the car in their lot for nine days. In the morning we took the 5:50 shuttle to the airport and started our 11 hour trip to Lebanon, Ohio. We had a great time visiting with our son Peter and his wife Tori, not to mention our three grandchildren: Joe (5), Sam (3) and Beth (2). None of our grandchildren have slowed down any - just us! We all went to a great 4 star...

These are some pictures of West Virginia as we traveled through. We stopped at Cedarbrook Park for the night... it's just northeast of Cincinnati and it is leafy green as you can get!! Beautiful spot. We did get a bunch of rain last night but no wind or hail, etc. Did look iffy for awhile and I guess there's some flooding just east of us on the road we came on... Off to Indy today and it looks like good weather up there! Special treat... sounds like P's sister Mary and her daughter the Doctor Kate will be visiting at the same time!!...

11/21– 11/29 Early on the morning of the 21st we left our Jeep at the Quality Inn and took their shuttle to the airport to grab a flight to Dayton, Ohio. We were playing with our grandchildren in Lebanon, Ohio by 4:00 PM. We had a wonderful ten days. Our daughter Joanne and her husband Chad flew in from Spokane, Washington. Our son Kenny flew in from Washington, DC. It is such a thrill for us old folks to get together with all our children and grandchildren. On Thanksgiving morning everyone went on either a 5K walk or a 10K run except BG...

Jun 19, 2011 - Lebanon, OH

Sun, 19 Jun: We left Mercer's RV Village Campground about 0815. Saturday was another noisy, smoky night with all the golf carts and campfires. We'll return here, but never again on a weekend... Our route took us back to I 80 to Akron, and then I 76 to I 71 and on to Lebanon. For the most part it was a lovely 288 mile drive, except for the places where Ohio forgot to pave the roads. Some of them were pretty "gnarly". We topped off the diesel tank just east of Youngstown where diesel was 20¢/gallon less than in Pennsylvania. We arrived...

2011 Travels

Jun 9, 2011 - Lebanon, Ohio

6/9 – 6/30 It took us three days to drive 583 miles to Lebanon, Ohio (SR109, US27, SR30, I-75. I-71). Because we were having a serious “lack of power” problem with the house most of the miles were on interstates so we could avoid steep grades. We had stops at Wal-Mart parking lots in Dayton, Tennessee and Berea, Kentucky before reaching the Cedarbrook Campground in Lebanon, Ohio. Of course we were very busy entertaining or being entertained by our grandchildren during our stay. Activities included: >Peter and Tori went on a cruise for four...

May 29, 2011 - Midwest Menagerie

Midwest Menagerie We have been in Lebanon since last Monday. The decision to move up here from our Kentucky layover was very sound. From Monday on, the Carrollton area has had some pretty strong storms. Of course the storms have been nothing to ignore around here in Ohio. The day we went to Nancy’s good friend Ann’s house and then over to watch her son, Bryce, play basketball, we had severe weather forecast. When we came out of the immense sports complex, the sky was an ugly black off to the west and the sirens could be heard in the...

May 24, 2011 - stormy Monday

Stormy Monday Monday we awoke to the crackling of lightning and booming thunder. It started about 430 AM, and continued off and on for about an hour. The rain was mostly moderate and the wind was nonexistent. We were located in a state park in Kentucky, about two miles from the swollen Ohio River. I got up and made coffee and went outside under the awning and watched the skies light up with the bolts of lightning. Nancy stayed in bed, she was too cozy to get up. It really feels pretty neat to be in a new place, a storm going on outside,...

May 3, 2011 - Lunch With Pa

Today was another gray and rainy day. But we are encouraged because now, at sunset, we can actually see the sun setting, so maybe, just maybe we will have a sunny day tomorrow. The locals don't seem to think it will ever be sunny again, it has been raining so much. -- We met Joe Mason at lunch downtown at the Golden Lamb Restaurant, which was very nice. Joe hasn't changed one bit. How come he didn't get older like the rest of us? He is 77 years old and still works. It was great to see him and get caught up on all the news about everyone we...

Pretty Damn Nice!

May 2, 2011 - Number 43

This morning, it was only drizzling slightly so we decided we would travel north. The weather guessers were predicting partly rainy/partly cloudy/partly whatever comes our way for the next several days, so we might as well travel. -- It was another gorgeous calendar country day. All of the valleys with farms and barns and silos were just beautiful - like pages out of a calendar. We left Kentucky behind and moved into Ohio, the 43rd state we have visited in our three years of travel. And spring is in full swing in Ohio too with shades of...

Nov 1, 2010 - Lebanon, Ohio

In November we put zero miles on the house while we spent the whole month in Lebanon, Ohio with our grandchildren and their parents Peter and Tori. We did put 746 miles on the Jeep Here are the details of the month. 11/1 – 11/30 It has been a wonderful month because we spent a great deal of time with Joe, Sam and Elizabeth (aka BG-Baby Girl). What fun it was spending time with the kids and, when they get cranky and tired, we simply say goodnight and head for home. Joan babysat every weekday for BG while the boys were in daycare. BG started...

Jul 4, 2010 - Happy 4th of July

We hope everyone had a safe and sane 4th of July. We enjoyed spending the day with the Nystroms and their friends at church and later at Kevin and Jill's house in the country. Great food, playing games, laughing and talking in the hot summer sun made for a 4th to remember. Tomorrow we start heading south. How far will we go? Stay tuned and find out where we end up!
