May 5, 2018 - Evergreen RV Resort

Camped at Evergreen RV resort, Dundee, Ohio. Steve and Sue Alliss camped next to us in their 5th wheel. We were on site 1 and they were on site 2. 1st time here for them. We toured the Walther train Museum. It is unbelievable how Walter hand carved these trains! All done by hand using various woods and Ivory. Amazing. Many more to see. Worth the tour. We then went to P Grahm Dunn. This is a place with giant computer paint machines which produce really nice signs and stuff. Played cards that night and went to Berlin the next day. Had a good...

Aug 8, 2015 - 1st trip in new camper - Evergreen

In July of 2015, we bought a new 2016 Forest River Roo "Hybrid" camper from Camping World, Richmond, IN, (Formerly Tom Raper RV). It has two slide outs and easy to pull. I have a 2013 Chev Silverado and pulling it is easy. We decided to break it in at Evergreen Camping Resort in Dundee, Oh, which is in the middle of Amish country. We have been there before and it is the best in my opinion. We stayed at site #1 and will try to get that for now on. We stayed 2 nights and everything went well. Met a couple who brought their first 5th wheel....

Jun 26, 2015 - Amish area in Ohio

We are now in "eating" country. Lots of good Amish home cooking. We are in one of our favorite parks that we stayed at last year and will be back again for sure. It is extremely clean and well maintained and the most important thing is that we are on beautiful grass with paved parking pads. Went to an outdoor Amish produce and flower auction early one morning. What fun that was to see the produce and flowers, especially the hanging baskets which were the largest I have ever seen. Neat to watch and cheap cheap prices all for the bidding. We...

Sep 4, 2014 - Amish Country

Amish Country, Dundee, OH Love, Love, Love this stop! It is like we are in another world. Horses and buggies are all over the place. From our RV last night we watched a horse getting shoed in the barn next to us as we heard the sheep baaing in the other field along with donkeys, horses, roosters and the sound of the horse and buggies going by our RV park even after it is dark. The food here is delicious, just like being in Lancaster County, PA or Pincraft in Sarasota. Finally found a place that made shoefly pie and it was excellent. As a...

Sep 17, 2013 - Dundee, OH

Dundee, Ohio, is near the center of the Ohio Amish community. Janet wanted to come here because one of the things the Amish are known for is quilting. There are many quilt shops here and Janet is shopping for ideas, patterns, and materials. Amish are different in each diocese. Here in Ohio the bishop allows most modern technology such as motorized transportation and electricity, although in Pennsylvania neither are allowed. It is confusing because I don't understand why there are still many horses and buggies on the road here, and I've...

Jul 16, 2012 - And then we went crazy

Our last week in West Virginia had a strange turn of events, I blame it on the heat, it had to be a case of temporary insanity, unfortunately we both went crazy at the same time……we got a dog. I have been the voice of reason for the last couple of years, always convincing Bob that we didn’t need a dog but this time when we saw the cutest little thing in a cage at a flea market, I caved in. It was so hot at the flea market and the puppies looked very unhappy. Our puppy did seem very pleased with the fact that we have air-conditioning. We are...

May 7, 2011 - More Amish Stuff

The knees were tired today so we passed on going to the Amish Flea Market - darn! Instead, we decided to find the nearest store and replenish groceries. We stopped at the office to get directions. The gal in the office was born and raised in the house next door to the RV park. She lived in Florida for a while but missed the peace and serenity of country living, so she happily returned to Amish country and got a job here at the RV park. -- The nearest Wal-Mart it turns out is about 20 miles from here. On the way, we stopped at a highly...

May 6, 2011 - A Trip Back In Time

The weather guessers said we could expect rain to move into the area this afternoon, but this morning, it was glorious outside; a perfect day for exploring. This is the third Amish community we have visited and one of the things we enjoy the most, is exploring the back roads, where the Amish people actually live. The little towns along the main highway through Amish country are filled with small shops offering all kinds of homemade goodies and those shops are fun to explore, but we wanted to take a drive through the countryside today. -- On...

May 5, 2011 - Amish Country, Ohio

Sunshine at last! Today was a beautiful, sunny day with blue sky!!! We almost forgot what that was like. It was a travel day today and it was another gorgeous drive. -- We started out on the interstate where we hit patches of fog over rivers which made for some interesting pictures. Once we got to the capital, Columbus, we wanted to head east on a smaller highway. I had the map in front of me, giving John step by step directions as we entered downtown Columbus. We were looking for Highway 670 off of the interstate - ok, no problem, but...

May 28, 2009 - Evergreen Park RV Resort

This morning we drove from Buckeye Lake, OH to Dundee, OH, another short trip, about 100 miles. It was a great day for traveling. The campground we picked is one of the best ones we have been to so far on our trip north from Alabama. The park is clean and neat and the showers are to die for. There is a glass enclosed indoor pool and hot tub area, and also exercise and game rooms. After we got set up we drove around the area and found a lot of neat stuff. One of the places we stopped at was Sol’s Exchange that was a couple of large buildings...

Sep 21, 2007 - Ohio

We are now at Evergreen RV Park in the middle of the Ohio Amish community. This park is fabulous! It is very clean and has awesome amenities. After getting settled in, we spent some time in their beautiful indoor pool and hot tub. Our timing was perfect as we had the area to ourselves for most of our swim. I almost had to call someone to share my joy when I walked into the ladies room and saw the big private baths complete with "rain-shower" style shower heads! After a LONG shower, we grilled steak and enjoyed the evening breeze for a...

Rau Ramblings

Jul 12, 2007 - Dundee, OH

We arrived in Dundee, Ohio today which is in the heart of the Ohio Amish community. We are staying in a very upscale park, Evergreen RV Park. They have lots of amenities at the park such as pool tables, rec room, exercise facilities, pool and spa,... We ventured out into the community to intermingle with the Amish who really are somewhat of an odd lot. Beth was so fascinated by these people that she bought two books on the subject and is now our very own Amish expert. We ate Amish food which consisted of chicken, mashed taters, corn, and...
