May 6, 2019 - Christmas Story House

I really enjoyed touring the Christmas Story House since this film was a perennial favorite in our house when the boys were growing up. Actually it is still a favorite in each of their homes at Christmas time. As for the info on making the film , Wikipedia has all the info that was told to us today. It really is an interesting story. The Bumpus House is an inn and the top floor of the CSH can be rented as well. You can actually wake up on Christmas morning in Ralphie's house! The restorer of the Christmas Story House, owns 3 other peices...

Sep 18, 2018 - Peaceful, Easy Feeling

Limitations. Sometimes a desired activity has to be postponed or delayed due to limitations, doubts...or fears. On our journey toward the East Coast, we stopped in Cleveland for a week to spend time with big sis. Over 30 years ago, Ang and I took our first trip with younger (yes, much younger) sis Shayna. We went to DisneyWorld. Shayna was 8 or 9 at the time and all she wanted to do was swim in the hotel pool. Seriously. Rides at DisneyWorld? Nope. The princess breakfast? Nope. Epcot Center? Nope. Swimming at the hotel pool. A desire to...

Oct 13, 2017 - Cleveland Ohio - Oct 6-10, 2017

What a city!! We arrived at the outskirts and “googled” our way to our campground about 25 miles south of Lake Erie. I am not going to go on about google maps for the moment. We are in a much wooded campground that is getting ready to close for the year so it is not too crowded and there is no noise. Well the train goes by but just a couple of times a day – in the daylight. Cleveland has a lot of history tied to shipping because of Lake Erie. Power plants were built right at the shore au coal could be “dropped off”. Manufacturing was...

Aug 30, 2017 - Hot in Cleveland

Ok, to be completely fair to Cleveland, it wasn't hot. In fact, during our time in Cleveland, the weather was near perfect. But, I had to pay homage in the title to one of my favorite tv shows...Hot in Cleveland (oh how I miss that show!). After a fantastic month of traveling, the dogs and I took a bit of a respite from the road and headed to Cleveland to see sista Angie. Yes, she lives in Houston. But, she works in Cleveland, so she is here for about 2 to 3 weeks of each month. She bought a condo earlier this year and me and the pups...

Aug 17, 2017 - Cleveland Rocks , August 1-3

We left mom's with more " stuff " than we left home with, including my grandma's a antique flour sifter. There was a stop at the Birch Run outlet center where Eddie Bauer t-shirts and summer clearance for Lee shorts was investigated. As we approached Toledo and the exit for our hotel we took the wrong exit and ended up at the Hollywood Casino. My husband did not care where we landed as long as they had a bathroom. Off we went in search of the facilities. He casually said "while we're here why not play a few slots. This man must have aa lucky...

The Long Way Home

Aug 7, 2017 - Cleveland, Ohio

We left Chicago at 5am which was really good for us because we get a little annoyed when we have to stop in traffic. There was no traffic and we got out of the city fast! We slept most of the morning in the car which makes it nice for us because the time goes by faster. We woke up for a while and played with mom and dad (whoever was in the back with us at the time). We didn't have a real long day in the car. We stopped in Westlake, Ohio for the night and stayed at a Hokiday Inn Express which was really nice! We loved it! Mom and dad had a...

Aug 13, 2016 - Holiday Inn West Cleveland - Zero Miles (happily)

No miles today!!l A day of rest!! And it was wonderful! We timed the day of rest with a day of waiting out another storm and flooding in Cleveland. Did not even open our eyes until 8AM!! That tells you something, we were tired! Woke up to sunshine and beautiful skies, that can make me a bit crazy, takes me some time to convince myself to enjoy a day of rest and not get on my bike, slow down and enjoy the sand in my toes!! Not in any hurry to finish our trip, so we really don't need to do the big miles, but getting up to ride every day is...

Aug 12, 2016 - August 12 - Fremont to West Cleveland (71miles)

What a wonderful day -Part One I guess there is a reason I am the way I am. I seem to come up short on details sometimes, overlooking the important step or even leaving one out!! I can look at the map and just not see what I should see. That may sound like a shortcoming, but it can work out to be a good thing and leads to the wonderful moments in life like today!! Phil and Greg, this one is dedicated to you two!! Two Good Looking Retired Guys (did I get it right??) stopped to help us as we paused in the early hours of the morning and...

Jul 17, 2016 - Embassy Suites. Cleveland

Easy flight to Atlanta. Sat with a gal from Buffalo, engaged to a guy from Ashville (on Chautauqua Lake). Then leisurely lunch at Atlanta airport and on to Cleveland. Late arrival meant I missed the first night party, but I didn't mind crashing and catching up on the news. So far no protests here 𯘌𯙄𯘅. Get badges etc tomorrow AM

May 22, 2016 - Do You Remember?

I am trying to keep current with the journal so I can at least remember some of what we do. It’s amazing how things disappear from your mind as you get older. We pulled into this campground, which again was a Passport America park, and we both knew we had stayed here before. So it’s nice to know we haven’t forgotten everything. We had stayed here a year ago on our way back from El Centro to Lake George. It was in April and when we pulled in it was rather late in the day so the only one there was a handyman. He directed us where to park and...
