Apr 30, 2013 - Cincinnati

Sunday April 28 It was raining lightly so we decided to leave before it started raining harder. As soon as we got going the rain picked up so we decided to take I40 over to Knoxville instead of the Blue Ridge Parkway and US441 over the Newfound Gap in the Smokey Mountain National Park ending in Gatlinburg. The rain finally let up so we drove downtown Knoxville and saw the Sun Sphere in the World Fair Park. Then we had a good dinner at Tres Amigos near Raccoon Valley. Monday we headed north into Kentucky, a beautiful ride through the...

Apr 16, 2013 - We're Back

We are back to work after a 3 month break. I must admit, it felt great! But three months may have been just a bit, too long. I had a difficult time wanting to return to work. Is this premature? Hanging out with retired folks, taking it easy during the peak of our money earning years? Maybe. But I don’t regret it. We have met such wonderful people, are making plans for our own retirement and were able to refuel our souls for another decade of hard work. I can definitely see ourselves work camping in the future, living 6 months in Florida, 6...

Jan 30, 2013 - On the road! Finally!

Tuesday was spent getting last minute errands done, like fixing a computer, and getting the title to the RV so I could get plates transferred. Then back home to do the biggest job of all, moving all our essential stuff into the RV and trailer. About 1:30am we finally called it a night. Which was impeccably marvelous timing because what better opportunity to hook up the trailer and RV without all the traffic that normally is right in front of the house! With the help of two walkie talkies it was almost simple!...

Oct 17, 2012 - Wednesday In Cincinnati - Part Two

From Winton Woods Campground – Cincinnati, OH Hope you enjoyed “part one” of our Wednesday in Cincinnati. Following our bird’s eye view of the city and walk along the river we sought out a couple of Subways for lunch in the neighborhood of our next scheduled stop…………the “American Sign Museum”. Signs have always been a huge part of the American roadside experience sharing information with all who drive the roadways crisscrossing this nation. Under the 28-foot high ceilings of the American Sign Museum visitors will find a collection of about...

Oct 17, 2012 - Bird's Eye View Of Cincinnati

From Winton Woods Campground – Cincinnati, OH Our travel plans only have us in Cincinnati for three nights leaving only two days to see sights and then the forecast is calling for rain much of those two days. Aware of these facts we began today’s adventure upon awakening to beautiful blue skies and sunshine. Doing our usual prior research for “things to do and see” in our next location a trip to the top of the Carew Tower for breathtaking views of the city was mentioned in more than a couple research sources. Knowing that the present...

Oct 16, 2012 - Will Be In The "Queen City" A Couple Of Days

From Winton Woods Campground – Cincinnati, OH Today traveled about 230 miles “south” toward warmer weather and our destination of Gulf Shores, AL until shortly before Christmas when we will return to our “home park” in Pearland, TX for the holidays and our annual medical, dental, etc checkups. Arrived at our destination; Winton Woods Campground in Cincinnati shortly before 2 p.m. It still amazes us that so many larger cities in our travels do not offer many choices in RV parks and Cincinnati was one of them offering only this county park...

Home Sweet RV - 2012

Oct 5, 2012 - Cincinnnati and Columbus, Ohio

Cincinnati is where we met, fell in love and married all those many years ago, so we were looking forward to revisiting the "scene of the crime". We set up in a terrific county park campground, Winton Woods, in the northeast area of the city - a great place to stay while we were here. Therese had kept touch with two long-time friends that we last saw around 1980 before moving to the Northwest, each of whom were with us during significant moments. It was at our friend Sherry's home that Dave proposed during a holiday party, and our friend...

Aug 11, 2012 - Cincy Blues Fest

My sister and brother-in-law have a yearly tradition of listening to the Blues at the River Park in Cincinnati with his brother and sister-in-law and I was lucky to be around to join them this year. We found parking very close to the park so they saved themselves a long walk over the Purple People Bridge from Kentucky where they have parked in the past. There were 3 stages: the arch stage was under the Purple People Bridge and featured boogie woogie artists; the main stage with well-known blues singers (although I knew no one!); and the St....

May 18, 2012 - Louisville To Cincinnati

Came to Cincinnati via Frankfort, Ky in order to see the state capitol. It was voted one of the top three Capitol buildings in the U.S. ( The nation's capitol and Harrisburg PA being the other two). While I agree that the actual structure itself is fabulous it isn't as stunning to walk through as let's say - the Iowa or Illinois capitol ( I have not yet been to Harrisburg). The architect took lots of ideas from the French - the rotunda and dome were modeled after the Hotel des Invalides , the stairs resemble the ones in the Paris Grand...

Oct 24, 2011 - William Howard Taft

We found the Taft National Historic Site. Taft was president, Supreme Court Chief Justice, politician, diplomat, judge, Provincial Governor of Cuba, civil governor of the Philippines, professor, lawyer and Secretary of War. Taft grew up in a family where fairness, honesty and integrity were always stressed. His parents encouraged the children to learn and go to college. Taft’s father was a judge and ambassador and the children were told they could be whatever they wanted to be. The house we toured was where Taft was born and lived until...

Sep 21, 2011 - Cincinnati OH

I woke up this A.M. at about 8:00; MB at about 10:00; so we got a late start on this rainy day’s activities. It rained overnight, then off and on our hour trip north on I-75, then east on I-675 near Dayton to the USAF Museum. The museum is massive – even bigger than the Naval Museum in Pensacola. This has 3 huge buildings and a smaller one that houses some space/missile displays and some outside displays that we never even got to see. Probably the most newsworthy display is the B-29 bomber that dropped the 2nd atomic bomb on Nagasaki,...
