Oct 24, 2011 - Hopewell Culture

Oct 24 we got away early again today and immediately ran into a horrendous rain storm. It started and stopped several time before we hit Hopewell Culture. We had driven into the sunshine right before stopping but I was walking around the site the clouds turned black again. I quickly went into the Visitor Center. Hopewell Culture is a mound site that was built by the Hopewell people –Americans Indians who lived between 2,200 and 1,500 years ago. They were named after the owner of the farm where several of the mound sites were found. No one...

Jul 20, 2009 - Tecumseh!

A surprise ending to our first day in Ohio - Monday, July 20 After a quiet weekend in our Pennsylvania campground, today we left the Pittsburgh area and headed west on I-70. The 227 mile drive took us through that odd piece of West Virginia that sticks up between southwestern Pennsylvania and northeastern Ohio, and then across the Ohio River into the state of Ohio. Coming into Ohio here the state looks very different than it does along the Ohio Turnpike farther north. The hills are taller and the highway passes through lots of deep cuts...

2009 Spring 2 Fall

Oct 15, 2008 - Settled in Chillicothe

We are all settled once again in a small campground just outside Chillicothe. It was a short trip today, just over a hundred easy miles. We really just back into our site, but it looks like we have been here forever. This is a seasonal site and the regular occupant is gone for the season, leaving flowers, lawn furniture, and a storage building for their return in the spring. There is a nice little pond at the edge of the campground and a lake across the street. I could just stay here. Oh wait, the snow will fly here soon. Maybe 3 or 4 days...

Nov 15, 2007 - Logan, OH

Yesterday, we left Marion and drove to southern Ohio; we're staying at Hocking Hills State Park. This morning, we took a rainy run on a beautiful trail. We've been watching the weather forecasts and checking out the historical temperatures for various cities. It was fun being around the midwest for football season, but it's getting cold, and we're planning to start moving south pretty quickly.

Aug 23, 2007 - To Chillicothe, Ohio

Today we drove 186 miles from Lexington, Kentucky to Chillicothe, Ohio, where we will stay two nights at the Sun Valley Camp Ground. It is a pretty little park with quite a few trees. Across the road is a large pond, which I can see from my back window. Barb's GPS has done a mostly good job of helping us get around but today "Jill" could not find the county road where Sun Valley Camp Ground is located. Fortunately, we had a map of Ross County which showed it. I had a rather unpleasant surprise while I was setting up camp. At the first site...
