Jul 7, 2012 - It's hotter than He**!

We headed west from Hancock on I70 this morning with the goal of getting to near Dayton tonight. Didn’t quite make it. We’re stopped for the night at Spring Valley Campground in Cambridge, OH. Along the way, we passed through Pennsylvania and the top of West Virginia. As we left the campground this morning, we traveled a short distance on the Old National Pike, the first Postal Road financed and built by the Federal government to open a route to the western frontier. It ran from Baltimore to Vandalia, Ill. roughly along the current day...

Jun 1, 2012 - Spring Valley Campground, Cambridge, OH

We stopped in OH at the Spring Valley Campground in Cambridge OH. The RV park was located right at the juncture of I-70 and I-77. Cambridge is a real jewel. We had such a good time exploring the town, we found two great restaurants - The Forum and Theo's, great food. We found out that they are owned by brothers and when we were at Theo's we were waited on by the daughter of the owner and sat next to the Mother and Father of the owner. The mother's father and uncle started the restaurant in 1931. We found two wonderful museums. The Hopalong...

We had a beautiful day to travel...sunny, cool, breezy. We drove by the falls and Falling Water entrance on our way to US40. A good portion of US40 in this area follows the original National Road. We saw one of the original toll houses where toll was collected...2 cents for 20 sheep. The money was used to maintain the road. The mile markers are unique. Each one gives the distance to the next town in either direction. We went through some pretty little towns. The country side is rolling and mostly agricultural. Our destination was Cambridge,...

Aug 11, 2011 - Cambridge, OH

Had to backtrack through Maryland to get to Ohio. There was a toll road if we took the shorter way that didn't charge by number of axles like most do, but it charged by weight so we decided we'd drive around that instead. The western side of Maryland and into Ohio is much different than the eastern side. In Pennsylvania and the eastern side of Maryland it's primarily farmland growing corn, corn and more corn, as well as several apple and peach orchards. The western side almost looks like Tennessee. It has lots of trees and mountains. What...

Apr 17, 2011 - Cambridge, Ohio

Today we traveled some new territory in the Appalachian Mountains. We traversed two mountains by going through tunnels, which is much easier than climbing over them. Glenna took nice pictures of spring in the mountains. There were many trees in blossom that were very pretty. We drove from Virginia to West Virginia and then across the Ohio river into Ohio. There has been so much rain recently that all the rivers are running red from soil erosion. We only drove for four hours to get to tonights campground. I wanted to stop early and watch...

Apr 21, 2010 - First stop

Started down the driveway, gave a big sigh of relief and then remember how many miles we will need to travel. We broke with tradition and bypassed Barkcamp State Park in Ohio. Continued further west and found a very nice campground in Cambridge. Campgrounds right now are almost empty since the season hasn't really started. I'm sure as we get to Yellowstone and north into Canada, we will catch up with some snow. We expect to camp in Indiana or Illinois Thursday night.

Hello, again, from Ohio. We are in Cambridge now at Spring Valley Campground. Much nicer than last night..we have wifi and cable. Weather was great except for the wind. Steve said it pushed the motor coach around some. Ginger is adjusting nicely, but she still likes to bark at all moving things. She lays at my feet under the dash when we are on the road. We will be posting pictures at some point. Right now things look pretty much as they did in PA. Take care and we'll send you an update tomorrow (if we have wifi!). Fondly Nancy and Steve

Sep 23, 2008 - Arrived just outside of Cambridge Ohio

Left Indiana this morning and arrived at Hillview Campground just outside of Cambridge Ohio this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. Ohio landscapes are much different than the last 3 states...Iowa, Illinois and Indiana. Ohio has rolling hills and many many deciduous trees...very pretty. We'll be here for a couple of days then off to Hershey Pennsylvania...travelling through West Virginia just a few miles or so. We'll stay in Hershey for three weeks. It will be our base camp as we travel up to Vermont and the New England states as well as down to...

Nov 5, 2007 - Marion, OH

Friday, after touring Falling Water, we drove to Marion. As we were passing Columbus, Brent called, and the timing was just right for us to join Brent, Maria, Kyle, and Brett Gates for dinner at the Roadhouse Grill; so we arrived in Marion pretty late. We didn't have tickets for the Buckeyes' game on Saturday, and we've gotten burned-out (and priced-out) on buying from scalpers, so we decided to watch on TV. It was another Big Ten Network broadcast, so we watched with Bruce's mom and Woody in the rv in the driveway. Life is good as a...
