Jul 5, 2012 - Ohio for a rest - Buckeye Lake

We made it to meet Penny and Virginia in Ohio for July 4th. Yahoo! A day of no driving for Ed at a KOA Cindy and I had used once before. A really nice organization with plenty of activities, a nice pool, a hearty breakfast available in the campground, fireworks and an ice cream social to top off the day. We stayed here through Friday morning and continued to head home. I took LUCY to Grant and Adam's house in Bethel Park, PA and Cindy went on to White Oak with her mom. Cindy has a dental appointment Saturday morning and then we will hook up...

Oct 27, 2010 - Boys & Their Toys

I can't believe we've been on the road for 10 days - seems like forever! Well after a day of thunderstorms and tornadoes, Wednesday turned out bright and sunny; a perfect day for a ride in the Cobra in the fall sunshine! We left for Doug Ford's home in Nelsonville, Ohio, which was about an hour south of our location at Buckeye Lake. Beautiful colors, beautiful scenery, large barns and larger churches on every country intersection. Each home decked out for Halloween. We arrived at Doug & Katy's around 11:00 and the boys spent the next few...

Oct 26, 2010 - Thunder, Rain, Tornados OH MY!!!

We left Altoona, Iowa bright and early on the 24th, headed for another WalMart stay just outside of Champaign, Illinois. Pretty uneventful drive - good weather all the way. Some beautiful fall foliage along the way but very hard to take good pictures from a moving vehicle! Rolling, rolling, rolling hills and then some. Lots of farm country, two story "salt box" houses and big red barns. Huge but short rainstorm and now we have a leak on the opposite side in the bedroom! Well, it's not really a leak per se - as we were going down the road...

Oct 8, 2009 - Buckeye Lake, Ohio

October 7 – Thursday Another day of travelling (321 kilometers) in 3 different states, starting out in West Virginia, through Pennsylvania, another short distance in West Virginia then into Ohio. It was sunny again today and cooler but at least it wasn’t windy like yesterday for which we are thankful. We were looking for a place to stop for a break when we came upon a huge sign for Cabela’s at Triadelphia, West Virginia so that was where we made our stop. Cabela’s is the “World’s Foremost Outfitter” store with everything you could possible...

Aug 20, 2009 - Buckeye Lake KOA - That would be OHIO

Wise choice to stay in Hotel last night. It rained, stormed and blew all night long. I told Cindy I was staying in a Hotel last night because of the bad storms and she asked me, "what about John C". I just stayed silent and did not respond! Had a nice drive today and stopped at 2 different RV dealers to do some research and talk to salesmen about a new Big D. I found what i like, now I have to convince Cindy it is time to move on the deal. The 1 I want is manufactured by Winnebago and is known as the Itasca Navion 24J. It is a 6 cylinder...

May 1, 2009 - Off we go

What an adventure we had today. We stopped for fuel near Clear Spring, MD. A gentleman told us of an accident on Rt. 70 in the direction we were traveling involving a tractor trailer. They were anticipating the highway to be closed for 5 hours. We quickly grabbed the map and GPS and determined an alternate route. We took the Clear Springs exit and thought for sure we would only go one hour out of our way. After all, one hour was better than 5 hours at a stand still. The roads started out to be normal two lane country roads. However, they...

Aug 5, 2008 - Buckeye Lake Koa Campground, Ohio

GREAT START AT 7AM. IT WAS RAINING AND 72 DEGREES. MOST OF HIGHLAND AND PARTS OF MUNSTER HAVE NO ELECTRICITY. THAT WAS SOME STORM. PARTS OF THE SHOPPING MALL ON THE CORNER OF CLINE AND RIDGE WERE DAMAGED. THE CHICAGO WEATHER BUREAU THINK IT WAS A TORNADO. OUR TRUSTY GPS WOULD NOT WORK. IT WORKED LAST WEEK COMING FROM MICHIGAN. HOPE WE CAN GET IT FIXED AS WE ARE LOST WITHOUT IT. WE STOPPED OUTSIDE COLUMBUS, OH. FOR LUNCH AT A REST AREA. WE ACTUALLY DROVE OUT OF THE STORM. THE SUN WAS STARTING TO COME OUT. WE ARRIVED AT THE CAMPGROUND AT...

Harding Birthplace, Sugarcreek, Walnut Creek, Berlin, and Millersburg were places we visited while staying west of Shelby, Ohio. We also did a lot of antiquing. Before leaving the Campground we got some propane. It needed about ½ tank. We would miss the privacy, quiet, and looking at the field of green while stayng at this Campground! It was 10:52 am when we left Shelby/Mansfield KOA Campground. It was very humid, cloudy, 76˚, with a little...

Apr 3, 2008 - Still at home in Buckeye Lake Ohio

We are still at home in Buckeye Lake, Ohio. Our life on the road will commence on April 30, 2008. We rented this little cottage for six months while making our decision to go fulltime. There was a blizzard while we were there, as you can see by the picturs. Hopefully, we will never have to spend anoher winter in Ohio.

Jun 21, 2007 - Day Two- from West Virginia to Ohio

We had a leisurely morning at Lake Stephens before getting back on the road to Ohio. We (all 3 of us) took a walk through the park. Actually, Blue was very happy to lie across my shoulder and nib-nose as Jim and I walked. Breakfast was delicious! Jim made us scrambled eggs with vegetables and honey-baked ham and an English muffin. Ah - retirement!!! Jim says that Blue and I spent most of the day napping as he drove through West Virginia and Ohio. It was a wonderful drive! The KOA campground at Buckeye Lake is very nice - clean, shaded with...
