Sep 25, 2011 - OTRA – OH - Berlin Heights

9/25/11 Off we go to Ohio to visit my brother and do a go-round with our annual doctor visits. Left Camp Eriez at 10:45 and arrived at my brother’s at 1:77…crossing into Ohio at 11:06. Total of 141 miles. . Ran over to Sandusky to get a 30-amp cable and 30-to-15 amp reducer (also picked up a new Vizio TV!) so we could plug into their electric. We’re also hooked into their Direct TV so we’re all set. Didn’t do much this evening except relax. 9/26/11 We have a leak somewhere around the window next to Bob’s chair so Bob did some caulking...

Sep 21, 2010 - OTRA – PA – Erie

Left this morning at 10:25 for a rather easy 142-mile drive to Lake City (Erie) PA where we’re staying at Camp Eriez for 2 nights. WELCOME TO PENNSYLVANIA: 12:38 Pulled into the campground at 1:00. Nice level lot in a nice quiet campground. Started our setup routine but, as I was preparing to crank the back jacks down, I discovered I had left the back jack crank lug wrench thingy somewhere at Chip’s. Luckily, we had a adjustable open end wrench in the tool box so Bob was able to crank the jacks down with that. Called Chip when he got home...

9/8/10 Big move today!! The truck is all fixed and came home so we packed up and headed for Chip’s house in Berlin Heights. A grand total of 20.3 miles! So here we are…all set up next to the house at Chip and Bonnie’s “campground”. The weather is very cool (56° this a.m.), clear, sunny, beautiful clouds, quiet…very nice indeed. The killdeer are scooting around the front yard, calling to each other as they go about looking for bugs; the humbirds are fighting over each one of the 5 feeders he has out, and the doves wait patiently and quietly...

Something funny happened on the way to Ohio….oh, wait, that should be “…on the way to the forum”, I think. Anyway, about 30 miles from our destination, while traveling along the Ohio Turnpike, all of a sudden the truck just slipped out of “overdrive”. Luckily, there was a rest area within a mile so we pulled in there, got the book out and read. Evidently, one of the things that causes this is when the transmission overheats, it goes into the regular gears until the transmission cools down. Sure enough, after about a 10-minute break, started...

9/12/09 I’ve done my morning chores and am sitting here at the computer checking email and just watching the morning unfold while I wait for Bob to get up. It has been breezy and cool here the last couple of days and Bob commented last night as we listened to the leaves rustle that it “sounds” like Fall. Yep, summer in the north is coming to an end and fall is in the wings, getting ready to move right on in. The sumac is already turning red along the highways and even the leaves on some trees are changing into their fall colors but I think...

Aug 29, 2008 - OTRA - OH - Berlin Heights

Left the campground around noon for the short trip to my brother’s in Berlin Heights. Rain was predicted along the whole route but, once again, we lucked out and had a driving day of sun to overcast and not a drop of rain. Welcome to Ohio – 12:20 We stopped at the first rest area inside Ohio…to put the antenna down. Bob’s notes say that he lost an “atta’ boy” on that one. Followed I-90 to just west of Cleveland then dropped down towards Berlin Heights. I-90 was not a nice road around Cleveland…very bumpy. I don’t really mind driving...
