Jun 9, 2013 - Salt Lake City, Ut

6/9/13 Sunday -Salt Lake City Utah-Well the day didn’t start to well but at least we got the unexpected over early- Ned was out getting the car hooked up—I am getting the inside ready when the rig feels like it has been hit from behind—IT HAS- Ned ran into the rig with the car—his foot slipped off brake and hit the gas—the bumper on the car is dented- no damage to rig but the connecter switch for electronics from rig to car is broken—no fear we have zip ties – we would be lost without zip ties, twisty ties , rubber bands and duct tape. He...

Apr 29, 2013 - Temple Square

Drove back down to Salt Lake City to check out Temple Square. Temple Square is the world headquarters of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. The temple and the grounds are both impressive and beautiful. We wandered around the 10 acre temple site and enjoyed the beautiful gardens. There are flowers everywhere. We had lunch at the Nauvoo Café in the Joseph Smith building. Great food, reasonable prices. Just west of the temple in Salt Lake City stands the historic Mormon Tabernacle, completed in 1867 after 4 years of...

Sep 22, 2012 - Draper, Utah

We are now in Draper, Utah and will be leaving tomorrow heading for Zion National Park. Draper is just south of Salt Lake City. The weather has been nice for the four days we have been here, with no smoke in the air. Just before leaving Idaho Falls we went to the Mesa Falls National Park. The water falls are about 200 yards wide and 120 feet tall. Here in Draper we got in a round of golf and a little shopping as the next stop is 30 miles from the neatest shopping area. After Zion we will be going to Bullhead City, AZ to have some warranty...

Jun 2, 2012 - Hill AFB, Utah

At Hill Air Force Base FamCamp. 50amp E/W/S. Good satellite reception. Another nice day. A lot of clouds but plenty of sun and warm with temperatures in the high 80's. I left Bluff, UT this morning at 08:15AM. I stopped at Flying J at Green River, UT at 11:05AM. Put just over 9 gallons of diesel in the RV and had a quick snack. Wanted to make sure I made it to Springville, UT. Left Green River at 11:20AM. I arrived at Flying J, Springville, UT at 14:00PM. 74 plus gallons of diesel. Both places charged $3.869 using my Flying J Loyalty...

Aug 19, 2009 - August 19th - 20th - Salt Lake City

We are here in Salt Lake City to get a new cooling unit in our refrigerator. We choose to have this repair done in SLC because, given our choices, SLC, Albuquerque, or Denver, the great circle route toward SLC was the most enticing. I don’t want to say, I hate this city, but.... though I love the area, the population and traffic is huge and I find with the motorhome, that combination to be intimidating. I dread these types of motorhome issues, as since we are fulltiming with 3 dogs, it can be a long day or couple days. We spent the time...

May 5, 2009 - Provo, UT - Boise, ID

Happy Cinco de Mayo.... On the top of the list is stopping at CampingWorld in Salt Lake City to pick up new tow safety cables. After buying the cables, we hooked the Jeep to the motorhome and then tested the lights. I found that the right blinker and right brake light were not working. After an hour of fooling around, including a conversation with Rib, my technical advisor in North Carolina, I found that a plug had come apart during yesterdays mishap. I reconnected the wires, everything worked and we were, finally, on our way. Another late...

Dec 31, 2008 - Utah And Bootleg Beer

In an outpouring of good sense, Brian went to work on Monday while we opted not to show up until around 10:00 at Sara’s. We had a little more shopping to do, but we also had to load up those previously mentioned dozen 12-packs of golden nectar for delivery to the Utah criminals’ home. Sara and I were able to carry it into their entry way, and it had mysteriously disappeared by the next morning. Clearly cerveza is the gift that keeps on giving. Since so many of the previous day’s gifts had earned the approval of the little boys, there was...

Down Mexico Way 2009

Oct 6, 2008 - Salt Lake City Oct 6 - 9

Oct. 6 Woke to 2 degrees this morning. Getting mighty chilly here. Ed was pretty cold last night as we didn't have electricity for our electric blanket. Our trip today was very scenic with fabulous rock formations. We can't wait to come back and see the rest of Utah's canyons. Oct. 7 Today we got to sleep in and then we toured the Temple Square for the Church of the Latter Day Saints. In the North Street Visitors Centre we saw many paintings depicting what the Mormons believe in. We couldn't go into their sacred temple but we did get to see...

Sep 8, 2008 - Park City, UT, Sept 8th to Sept 10th

Christine was feeling well enough for a long day trip to the local ski hills in Utah. We drove 21 miles to Salt Lake City and into the mountain ranges. We went over to Snowbird and Alta ski resorts then headed to Robert Redford's Sundance. The circle ends going through Heber City (kind of a nice area) then back to Park City. The Salt Lake area is really nice due to the ski areas and the easy access from the airport. It, however is very populated. The population is: Salt Lake City 182,000, Salt Lake City area 898,000 and the Wasatch Front...

May 22, 2008 - Salt Lake City, Utah

We arrived at Hill AFB, UT – about 35 miles north of Salt Lake City on 18 May. Although the Hill FamCamp had lost my RV site reservation, we were lucky enough to arrive early and get a site anyway. Their slots are full hookups (water, electric, sewer), on a concrete slab and have a picnic bench and fireplace for our use. The only drawback is the closeness of the RVs to each other. We are about three feet, nose to nose, with one RV and between two others that are about 10 feet from each side. The upside is that RVers are usually extremely...

May 11, 2008 - The Great Salt Lake (City that is)

4 am- Here we are, dumped without ceremony into the Salt Lake City Amtrak station. Apparently, due to light-rail construction everything about the old train station has been destroyed. We walk haltingly due to our top-heavy backpacks through the darkness to a small, temporary station. Nothing's open at this hour. We settle for 50 cent coffee from a vending machine. Booted out of the Amtrak station at 5 am (they have nothing better to do here as the train we were on has satisfied boarding passengers and given nicotine addicts a smoke...

Mar 16, 2008 - Salt Lake City

We arrived in Salt Lake mid afternoon on Friday and made a campground right in the city our home. We went exploring, shopped at WalMart to replenish the pantry and located Walgreens so I could fill 2 prescriptions. We spent all of Saturday sightseeing. We bundled up and used the scooters to get around. It was a cold, windy day. Saturday is wedding day at the Temple and we saw at least 7 outside getting pictures taken. We were told that there has been as many 112 in a day. There is an organ recital daily for 30 minutes in the Tabernacle....
