This morning we drove from Leech Lake to Turtle River State Park in North Dakota. This is another lovely park with lots of trees, and the clerk who checked us in said there are only two other occupied campsites of the entire 70-some-odd here. I've decided it is a definite plus to travel in forested parts of the country. Certainly beats the beach or the desert for comfort! The roads have continued amazingly good (in spite of a fair amount of construction going on here and there). Usually the Interstates are a pain to drive over, but these...

May 24, 2008 - On the road across North Dakota

And the wind blew ... and blew. We drove into wind from the day we started in western North Dakota (17th) until the day we landed in eastern ND (24th). Fuel economy was horrible ... but we were glad to get across this windy state. Besides our time in the Teddy Roosvelt Nat'l Parks, we stopped in Minot and Devils Lake before landing in Turtle River State Park about 25 miles west of Grand Forks. Nice territory, even it most of it was flat and we were in the wind. Hope you enjoy a few of the pics we took.
