Today we stayed in bed a little later than normal. Got up, had a big breakfast and set out to explore the Theodore Roosevelt National Park (S. Unit). The park is set in the North Dakota Badlands which are very different from the Badlands of South Dakota. From what we saw, they were able to support much more life. Trees were more numerous than cactus and there were bison and feral horses on nearly every craggy hillside. We took a nature walk and while we were discussing how a tiny mud-crusted creek would be an excellent place to see mule...

Boot Bears!

Aug 26, 2008 - Ft. Abraham Lincoln State Park Mandan, ND 7/27/2008

Ft. Abraham Lincoln is where General Custer and 7th Calvary was stationed when they left for the battle of The Little Big Horn. The house that General Custer lived is has been restored and has some of the original furnishings that were owned by General and Mrs. Custer. One of the barracks and a stable have also been restored. One wing of the barracks is dedicated to the soldiers who fell in the Battle of the Little Big Horn. There is also a restored Mandan village of earth lodges.
