May 9, 2016 - Leaving North Dakota

From Days Inn Casselton, ND No we are not staying in a hotel. They actually have a campground too. Right after we got on I-94 this morning, we saw an animal that we thought was a deer but we think it was some kind of sheep. It bolted across the westbound lanes and into the median which was pretty wide. We were not going to avoid hitting it. Luckily it saw us and turned and ran behind the motorhome.Love the wildlife when they stay in their homes! We wanted to go a little further today but our good weather left us. Not long after we left...

Nov 9, 2015 - Day 1 - Brandon to Casselton, North Dakota

We headed out of Brandon about 11:30 AM after Garry had his chipped tooth checked by Princess Dental. We crossed the border at Boissevain about 1:00 PM and checked the mileage, 60,965 miles, which means that we have put more than 40,000 miles on the bus since we bought it.. Nice border guard, no issues, because I had cleared our fridge and freezer of all produce and meats. We followed Highway 281 to Jamestown, then east on I94 towards Fargo. We stopped just west of Fargo, in Casselton at Days Inn and RV Park. It is not fancy but has nice...

Jul 30, 2015 - July 30, 2015 - Ninth Stop - Casselton, ND

Yesterday and today we were running into 20 to 25 mph headwinds, so mpg went way down. We went into Fargo tonight to have dinner with our elderly friend from Naples at his nursing home. Coming home, we were looking at the most spectacular sun set I have ever seen. No clouds and the red almost covered the entire western horizon. The RV Park is 20 miles due west of Fargo (the KOA we stayed at in Morehead, MN closed) and the land is flat as a pancake. We were able to see it for the whole 20 minute ride. About 3/10 of a mile north of our site...

Aug 29, 2014 - Casselton, ND

We woke up to a stormy looking day and by the time we ate and had put things away it had started raining. The weather report was a very wide storm coming from the west and very hard rain with possible hail. Wasn't much we could do about it so hit the road. We ended up driving a little over 400 miles today. FAR MORE THAN WE HAD INTENDED. As we crossed the Michigan/Wisconsin border we had only 95 miles across Wisconsin to the Minnesota border. While driving Margaret looked up the boat schedule for the barges. Two 1000 footers had been early...

Jun 12, 2014 - Casselton, North Dakota

Yesterday Ross & Marge stayed in Clearwater, Minnesota and when they arrived the weather did seem to be changing as the humidity was high and the sky was becoming overcast as clouds moved in from west. Around 1700 small drops hit the windshield and the wind picked up. In less than an hour the rain came down in torrents and it was still pouring rain as they went to bed. By morning the rain had stopped and to Ross' surprise there no puddles and even the grass seemed to be almost dry. However, the wind was brutal and Ross knew it was going to...

Sep 9, 2013 - Sept 8th - 26th Stop - Casselton, ND

Sunday Nice drive through ND, although a long day. We arrived in Casselton, ND (the KOA in Fargo is at the end of a 1 mile dirt road) at 4:40 Central time. We are here to visit with Bud Carlson, an elderly friend from Naples who is in an Assisted Living facility in Fargo. Sunday night it rained most of the night and Monday it was over cast with a few showers. The RV Park is 22 miles from Bud's apartment over I 94 which is a concrete thump, thump road. I have to drive at 50 mph to avoid hurting Kay's cracked ribs. The speed limit is...

2013 - Here we come

Jul 31, 2012 - To Casselton, ND

We make a difficult decision this morning. If we use the Interstate, we can be in Minnesota by noon. We grit our teeth. It is only three and a half hours. We do not have the best start to the morning. The GPS takes us to a housing development instead of our restaurant. I have to learn how to report these errors. We cross Bismarck to where we know the restaurants are and enjoy breakfast out. We head east and leave the sunflowers behind. North Dakota leads the nation in sunflower production, growing about half the nationā€˜s total. North Dakota...

Jul 14, 2011 - July 14 through 16th, Fifth Stop

Not such a long day today, but lots of single lane driving due to construction and lots of sections of lousy roads. I expect the country's roads to get worse in this economy. It was cloudy and cool all day. At one point the truck's thermometer read 70 degrees. One section of I 29 had two ares where the water had gone over the road. There was a sign before the first, flashing "road under water." The huge 50' bladders were holding the water back on each side of the Interstate. Water level was higher than the road and they had huge pumps there...

Jun 1, 2011 - Back to Fargo

We decided to go have a look at downtown Fargo today. It is a nice town with many older buildings. After we walked around town and did some shopping,we stopped for lunch at a Sammy's Pizza which has been there for more than fifty years. Their dough and sauces are made from scatch and the toppings are all fresh. The pizza was delicious. After lunch we did some more shopping, got the truck washed, then headed home. It is a beautiful day today with sunny skies, a small breeze and temperatures in the upper sixties. We decided to wash the RV...

West Coast Trip 2011

May 31, 2011 - Into Fargo

Today we drove into the west side of Fargo. When we got to town to passed the Space Alien Bar and Grill so, of course, we took a picture. We found a nice steak house and had a delicious meal. After that, we did some shopping and got hair cuts then returned to the RV where we weathered gusts up to 40 to 50mph. We were rockin' and rollin'. The wind finally settled down to around 20mph at 10:00pm.

Fortunately, it stopped raining long enough for us to pack up and get on the road. The trip was light showers and heavy winds. Our original destination was Menoken just east of Bismark but as we exited I-94 we could see the RV Park down a muddy dirt road and decided not to stay there. Instead we drove on to what was to be the next destination which was Casselton, ND...
