Apr 4, 2012 - Bowman, North Dakota

Well, a fairly uneventful day. I think I'm ready for an eventful day! Left Havre, Montana this morning & travelled east to Williston, North Dakota, then headed south until we reached a small town called Bowman, North Dakota (just north of the North Dakota/South Dakota border). We knew ahead of time that the number of motels/hotels were limited here & I was a little concerned because when that is the case the quality is sometimes questionable. As well Bowman is a couple hours drive from any larger centre. Well my concerns of course turned...

Road Trip 2012

Aug 18, 2011 - First two weeks in South Dakota

To all who have not heard from us . . . “yes, we are still in SD”. We will be here for another 7 days. Since the last entry we have made a number of new friends in the campground here. All the RVer’s here are full-timers and America Mailbox members. As with us, this is their physical and mailing address. I am sure that we will meet up with some of these new friends again in the future. August 2nd found us off to “Bear Country USA” with new friends from the campground. We spent the morning there as we thought we might see more animals in the...

Apr 20, 2011 - We can now say we have been in all 50 States

Today, crossing into North Dakota, we can now say we've been in all 50 states. It's nice to say that, but I don't feel any different. Wonder if I'll get a tax break now. LOL OK, I'll try to get more serious. As you can see from the 4the photo, our Suncruiser found sunshine, but the snow is still melting. It's supposed to be in the 50's this weekend and we certainly hope so as we plan to do the Theodore Roosevelt National Park in warmer weather. This part of the country does not have dependable weather until June, at least that's what the...

Dream On

Jul 15, 2010 - Bowman, North Dakota

After a couple days at the Ellsworth AFB, FAMCAMP once again we were very ready to leave the area and see some new country. We made wise use of our two days there, we got alot of clean-up, straighten-up things done. The 184 mile drive from Ellsworth AFB to Bowman and subsequently the Larson's home was a breeze. Dave drove the first 45 miles to Belle Fourche then Rebecca took over for the rest of the drive, going north on hiway 85. We stopped for an early lunch at a wide spot in the road called Crow Buttes. A small community of about 8, but...

Jul 8, 2009 - Bowman, ND

Wait, I never said I was going to North Dakota - what am I doing here? Let me explain. I kept my appointment with an RV dealer/mechanic shop in Blackhawk, SD this morning so that my slideout could be adjusted. They gave me some bad news. The slide is actually okay, but the coach is sagging at the rear end and there is evidence of structural stress! They jacked up the back of the coach and it put everything back in alignment, but they don't have the means to provide the supports needed to keep the coach plumb without the jack. So, I called...

Jul 7, 2007 - We now are legitimate in North Dakota

We started off today in Billings. Yesterday on our ride across Beartooth Pass, Frank and Frank noticed that we had a steel belt showing in one of our rear tires on the trike. Frank Harris also noticed that the other low beam headlight was out. So this morning started out with maintenance issues. True to form, Billings was as hospitable today as they have been all week. Frank quickly found a tire store about 6 blocks from the hotel and they sent a guy to their other store across town to bring the proper tires back for us. So we now have 2...

Jul 22, 2006 - White Butte ND, highest point in the state.

http://americasroof.com/nd.html We decided to take a drive to the highest point in North Dakota. White Butte is just over 3500 feet above sea level, and is just about in-accesible from the highways. The above link is one of the official links for this marvel of North Dakota. Friends we met here in the RV Park in Dickinson said Amidon, ND had a good cafe, with great burgers. Just before reaching Amidon there is a sign with an arrow pointing to White Butte in a distance, but no road leading to it. Once in Amidon we saw no cafe, but there...

Aug 10, 2005 - Day 5 - Lunch in North Dakota

Day 5 Wednesday - August 10 We got up early today to go out through spearfish Canyon and then up to Bowman, North Dakota for lunch (about 150 miles each way). Ray would tag (ride in a state) every state west of the Mississippi on this trip if we went to North Dakota. So lunch was a sufficient reason for the side trip. There was a 40% chance of rain today but we never got any and the temperature barely got to 80 so Ray was comfortable and I bundled up. Spearfish Canyon is awesome. High Cliffs on both sides and twisty, smooth roads for about...
