Jan 17, 2018 - Belcourt

We were packed and ready to go early, probably because Dale didn’t go for coffee. We went to Moosomin and then got on the #1 and got to Brandon by11:00. First thing on Dales plans were Ag Days. We spent a few hours going through the exhibits at the keystone centre. The only thing we figured we forgot so far was a hat for Dale but he got a free one at the show so that problem was solved. We then headed for the border and it was one the easiest so far. Just a couple of questions and we were through. We had a room booked at Belcourt for...

Days 102 - 103 of The Big Trip June 14 was a travel day and we should left earlier, because it occurred to none of us that we'd be changing time zones. Anyway, we had an interesting driving day. In a little more than an hour, we were in North Dakota and the Central Time Zone. One doesn't see roads this straight in many places. We came to a construction zone, which was a doozey. When ND decides to fix a road, it starts over and we were in a no pavement zone for nine miles. The sad thing was that the recent rains had turned everything into a...

Jun 22, 2010 - Day Trip To International Peace Gardens, ND

We start our day in town. Town is Bottineau. We have breakfast, go for a walk, and find a drugstore and a Wal-Mart. At the drug store, we talk to the locals. One man has lived here eighty-three years and obviously loves North Dakota. Everyone is glad we are visiting their state and wish us safe travels. We check out the prices for boat rentals but it is too windy for fishing. We head out onto the Turtle Mountain Scenic Highway. It is a good day to visit the International Peace Gardens. I must admit the gardens are a disappointment. We are...

Jun 21, 2010 - To Bottineau, ND

Leaving the Bismarck area, our GPS puts us on Route 83 north. This looks reasonable. It is not too long before we remember that this is a four-lane high-speed highway. John says, “We’ve got to get off of this.” Quick, to the maps. “Take a right here!” What a relief. We find highway 41, which parallels 83. We slow down. The countryside is beautiful. We are back to counting pheasants. We are back to checking every pond for ducks. We see many hawks. This is more like it! Where do we head today? We decide to stop at another state park. Lake...

Aug 9, 2006 - International Peace Garden

Today was an overcast day with predictions of possible thunderstorms and high winds, so the decision was to stay home and have a quiet morning. After lunch I headed up to the International Peace Garden which has half of the park in the US and the other half in Canada. It is located at the center point on the border from the east coast to the west coast. It is a very large park of about 2,000 acres. The Canadian side is predominately natural with ponds and bogs and woodlands while the American side has a game warden museum, music camp and...
