Aug 20, 2020 - Theodore Roosevelt NP Landscape pics
Today we went to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park! It's the first national park we've been in that charged a fee, so we bought an annual pass to all national parks and a national park passport to get stamps in. We also got another sticker for our slowly growing sticker collection on the van bulkhead roof. I'm going to say TRNP for short when referring to the name of the park, it's a lot to type haha. - Last night, on our drive down 94 to get to TRNP, the landscape suddenly switched--as if someone had drawn a line. It went from gently...

Aug 20, 2020 - Bison, Horses, Prairie Dogs, Bunnies, Turkeys, oh my!
The animals at TRNP were so, so cool. My favorite were the prairie dogs by far. We drove past several huge prairie dog towns on our scenic drive and got out to check them all out. At the first town, a mom was hanging out with her four almost adult babies, all of them just munching on grass only a few feet from us. Little squeaky barks randomly popped up at varying degrees of intensity all around us. The little dudes were adorable and amazing. When they run they hop, so their butts bounce up and down, and it's adorable. The little ones that...

Aug 20, 2020 - Fort Abraham Lincoln Park
8/20 Hello all. So today we went to Fort Abraham Lincoln Park. Fort Abraham Lincoln was commissioned by the military in 1872. By 1873, Lt. Colonel Custer was the commander until his Ill-fated camping trip in 1876. By 1874, Fort Abraham Lincoln housed three companies of the 6th and 17th Infantries and six companies of the 7th Cavalry, making the fort a nine-company command. With a total complement of about 650 men, the fort was among the largest and most important forts on the Northern Plains. Once the railroad was completed, the fort was...

Aug 19, 2020 - Theodore Roosevelt park
Today we drove back to Theodore Roosevelt park. It was a long drive out there. We drove through park of the park. A small portion was closed due to erosion so we could not do the loop. We saw a lot of prairie dogs. These little guys were fat. We also saw a heard of buffalo. There was one little guy that was separated from the heard. He was so scrawny and sickly. Poor guy. After the drive through the park, we stopped for ice cream. It seems to be a theme. On the way home from the park, we stopped and visited New Salem Sue. She was one big...

Aug 19, 2020 - Giant cows and camels
We are in North Dakota and I LOVE IT SO MUCH! We've only been on the big highway, highway 94, and there's so much NOTHING!!! Just miles and miles of rolling golden hills of wheat or hay or gigantic sunflower farms. It just looks like a sea of beautiful growing stuff, I love how little stuff there is here. Several exits from the highway say, "No services," as in no gas stations or anything else. I love that so much. I love how little there is out here. I would love to live here if I wasn't planning to homestead eventually (I think the...

Aug 18, 2020 - Bismarck
Today was a short travel day. Only 170 miles to Bismark. I didn’t think we were ever going to get out of Montana. The state doesn’t look that big on the map. Tomorrow we are heading to Theodore Roosevelt Park. We will be here for the next three days. First time to North Dakota. We get to add a state to our map. Time for my ice cream, Everyone have a good evening, I’ll update tomorrow.

Aug 18, 2019 - FMCA Rally, Minot, ND
2019-08-18. FMCA Rally, Minot, ND We made it to Minot, ND and the FMCA (Family Motorcoach Assoc.) rally along with 1000 other RVs, mostly motorhomes. It was a pretty impressive sight to stand on one of the hills and look across the North Dakota State Fairgrounds at a sea of motorhomes. Imagine the organization that it took to park all these vehicles and the tow vehicles as well into designated spots. You could purchase a site with 30 or 50 amp electric but, that was about it. If you needed water or needed to be pumped out, you could pay for...

Aug 18, 2019 - Minot, North Dakota
Helena, Montana, to New Salem, North Dakota Our trip east from Helena was interesting, frustrating, beautiful, and enlightening. The first night out (August 6) was spent at Cowbelles Corral at the County Fairgrounds in Roundup, Montana. This campground beside the Musselshell River was a very pleasant surprise with huge cottonwood trees sheltering mowed lawns with a few picnic tables scattered around. We knew we wouldn’t have hookups, but the setting was quite lovely, and the price was right – freewill donation. We intended to make a...

Aug 17, 2019 - FMCA Minot Rally
100th rally for Family Motor Coach Association. Got to visit the Air Musuem, dinner at the Habachi restaurant, hung with friends. Mary got to go to Pizza Ranch while I had a meeting with my local Club Brothers. We signed up for security and guarded the exhibits. And then got together with the Full Timers Group again for Sweedish Meatballs at the Grand Hotel . yum. Serious rain issues with sites flooding and muddy. But it finally dried out and the sun is shining. Went to some seminars relating to RVs, saw a magician, bands and an excellent...

Aug 12, 2019 - Dale and Martha Hawk Museum Farm Show
2019-08-12 The Middle of Nowhere - Wolford, ND What is the difference between Kansas and North Dakota? Both are flat in the plains; both are major producers of corn and wheat and both have vast tracts of farmland interrupted by the occasional town and monster silos preserving the harvest. What is the difference? Water! They don't call Minnesota the land of ten thousand lakes for nothing and northern South Dakota continues that pattern. We passed lake after lake, both small and large, peppered with bobbing ducks but I couldn't identify any...

Aug 5, 2019 - Minot
Short drive to Minot and pre-rally is at Roughrider RV. People keep rolling in to this rock parking lot until the big FMCA Rally begins at the Fairgrounds this weekend. Hung out with friends, visited the Scandinavian Heritage Park, mall and other sites. Drove north to the Canadian border to visit the International Peace Garden. Plenty of flowers, trees and even a cactus display. It's located between the US and Canadian crossings, so we had our passports to "re-enter" the US.

Aug 2, 2019 - Medora ND and Teddy Roosevelt Park
Had a good 4 hour plus drive to Medora ND. for some of the trip we had smokie skies from fires in Canada, but when we got to Medora it is all clear. It's an interesting place next to Roosevelt National Park that is known for its' Musical. The Musical was an excellent show, with musicians, singers, dancers, horses and a magician. Had a great seat and a fun night. Drove through Teddy Roosevelt Park and saw a bunch of buffalo, prairie dogs and an antelope. No elk of wild horses this time. Beautiful country here and so much wildlife. Hit the...
