We enjoyed our stay at Kings Mountain State Park. York, SC is a historical town with over 150 homes and building either of Historical value or on the National List of Historical Places. At the visitors center they will furnish you a booklet on some of these sites with the history of each. If you visit York be sure drop by The Garden Cafe....a little quirky but a great lunch. We also visited Kings Mountain, NC.....a pretty little town with great murals painted on some of the buildings. They also have two walking trails....would have loved...

SILVER TRAILS

May 10, 2012 - Wilkesboro, NC - Bandits Roost COE

Our trip from Boone off the mountain and down to Wilkesboro, NC was an uneventful, short 45 miles that only took about an hour. Even though we waited until we had to be out of Grandfather Campground, we still arrived at Bandit's Roost a little early and had to wait a little while for our site to be cleared. Bandit's Roost is a Corp of Engineer campground and, like almost all of their campgrounds, the sites come with a lake view. We have 50 amps and water with a dump station on the way out. May 30, 2007 - Wilkesboro, North Carolina

While in North Carolina we drove north to Kerr Dam, a Corp of Engineers park just south of Wilkesboro, NC. Our friends Marty and Pat Thekan were in Boone for a long weekend, and we planed to spend the weekend with them in Boone. Kerr Dam was a lovely park, build around a resevoir. While there, we took time out to feed the geese in the park. They had obviously been fed before, as the adult geese we very aggressive -- I had one in my lap at one point pursuing a treat. It was really interesting seeing them up close like that.
