Apr 12, 2013 - The First Washington
After leaving Charleston, we moved north to a wonderful little marina just south of Myrtle Beach. The next day, on to Beaufort, NC where we stayed last fall and learned all about Edward Teach, aka Blackbeard. That will be relevant for tomorrow's blog. After Beaufort, with high winds and rain forecast, we decided to take a little side trip, inland away from the worst of it, and turned west and went up the Pamlico River to the small town of Washington. Originally the settlement, back in the mid-1700's, was called Forks of the Tar, because up...

Apr 29, 2012 - Cheasapeake Bay Bridge
Rain fell all night long with some lightning and thunder. The campground looked like a lake early this morning, but the water was slowly seeping down into the sandy soil. Check out time for Tom's Cove campground is 4 pm, which is unusually late. We took advantage of the time and went back to Don's for more seafood for lunch. Don owns an aquafarm and raises his own oysters and mussels. The fried oysters were wonderful. John had the broiled crab cakes, and they were great, too. All crab, no filler. We left the campground about 1pm and headed...

Nov 7, 2011 - Few days in Washington North Carolina
Thursday drove 230 miles to Washington in North Carolina took about 4 hours a far better journey than the other day blue skies & sunshine all the way. What a difference a bit of warmth makes, sitting outside in my deckchair reading a book. We walked around the campsite later there is a lake here as well, watching the fish jump out of the water. We have gone from having 2 fires on to now needing to put the air con on, wearing 4 layers to 1 now. Friday – spoke to soon woke up to rain very dismal day continued to rain all day walked along the...

Dec 8, 2008 - Outer Banks & Wright Brother's Monument
Our plan today was to get up at the crack of dawn to see if we could get across the Chesapeake before the winds came up. I woke up at 7 AM and immediately called ahead to see. We got the go ahead so we sprang into action, donning clothing and putting the cabin in order so things would not go flying as we crossed the bay. We left Livi sleeping as she was fighting off some kind of sickness for the last few days (the first of our trip!!!). We drove the beautiful expanse of the bay. The bridge-tunnel is 17 miles long and has 2 tunnels actually....

Apr 11, 2008 - North Carolina #1
It was definitely a slow start the next morning…after Sarah took a shower they closed for cleaning so we read books while I waited for my turn. Once, I got back I saw Sarah was pretty content with her book so I decided to sleep in a little nap…I enjoyed immensely! So, after deciding that since we weren’t gonna fix the computer there (since we knew we weren’t gonna be around long enough to have it fixed), there was no point to just taking it in and boot scooted on out of there! I called my buddy about my computer and after talking it over we...

Nov 23, 2007 - Mexico!! By Andrea
We had the funnest time in Mexico!! One of the best parts was church. There were always girls with tambourines and pretty dresses, and singing, and you wouldn't feel alone if you started jumping up and down! I also really loved the songs because they were so active and fun. They had an overhead projector so you could see the words and we sang along. My other favorite part was the Mexican kids there. It's funny because the first day we American kids were standing on one side of the hall, and all of the Mexican kids were on the other side....
