Oct 10, 2012 - First day out
KOA campground-Statesville, NC. Wednesday We spent Monday and Tuesday loading the coach at home. This morning we had breakfast in the coach, in our driveway. It was 0945 when we got away. Stopped at Clyde's on 301 for some gas to get us to Columbia, SC. We stopped there and topped off, about 15 cents cheaper than the 'boro. Then went to a nearby Cracker Barrel for lunch. They have RV parking slots in the back. It was a bit foggy at home, and cloudy most of the way to Columbia. Then the skies opened up and we had sunshine the rest of the...

We are finally heading west! Home! That sounds so good! Now will be on I-40 clear into New Mexico. Drove through 100 miles of almost non-stop population we really weren't anticipating. There are several cities strung together along this stretch with lots of traffic even for a Sunday - Raleigh, Durham, Burlington, Greensboro, Winston-Salem are really close together. This will be an overnight stop for us which turns out to be about 50 miles north of Charlotte.

Thurs. 9/1 Caught up on laundry, cleaning and Bob went to WalMart - very productive day! Went for a walk after dinner around the campground, Bob FINALLY saw Fireflies - he's so happy - he was like a little kid - took him back to being about 10 years old, it was pretty neat to watch him!

Drove about 8 hours and stopped at a Hampton Inn in Statesville, NC. The weather was great all of the way, warm and sunny, around 60 degrees. The bed at the Hampton was so comfortable. We had a great dinner next door at the Outback. The free breakfast the next morning was ruined by a family with 5 or 6 kids who were out of control. They had their fingers in everything and were sneezing on everything. John was not happy when we left there around 8am.

Sep 28, 2009 - The Joys of RVing
We are having a great time but... We didn't arrive in Statesville until 10:30 last night and we just stayed at Wally World. We had to load some more stuff after church yesterday and then we went by the storage unit and emptied some stuff out of the RV. We had way too much in there. Left the piano and guitar and some clothes, etc. Going to leave some more stuff at Melissa's. Well, We were supposed to be in the mountains tonight but here we are in the Camping World parking lot! We had to delay our trip one day anyway because Melissa is...

Jul 25, 2009 - Me & Ma - Camping Trip Number 2
As with all new experiences, I always like to try things first to make sure that I can accomplish them and then challenge my son to do the same thing. Perhaps that's overprotective, but it's what I do. So.....let's see how this thing does in the mountains. Cow makes a reservation while I'm still at work. Home, hook-up, leave. All in all pretty smooth! While getting on I-85S / I-40W in Greensboro, she says that she's made reservations for Asheville West....HOLY COW! Can we go through the piedmont first and then try Black Mountain! I was a...

Oct 30, 2008 - Natural Bridge, VA to Statesville, NC
It froze overnight so there was thick frost on the windshield and our water hose was almost blocked. Flow was reduced until we ran the water for a while but then it cleared. Time to head further south! We did drive about three hours southwest today. The first leg was on I81 which parallels the Blue Ridge Parkway. There were lots of Snowbirds on the highway this morning. Then we turned south on I77, crossing over the peak of the Blue Ridge Mountains at Fancy Gap, Virginia and on to Statesville, North Carolina for the night. The climb to the...

Oct 23, 2008 - Goooooood Morning Freezing Weather!
We woke this morning and found the temperature to be 17 degrees Fahrenheit! Needless to say we were concerned about our pipes having possibly frozen in the night. We looked everything over and as best as we can tell we had no frozen pipes. However, when we prepared to dump our holding tanks we found our macerator was frozen solid and consequently blew a fuse when we tried to turn on the macerator pump. So… after nice hot showers in a cold bathroom (by the way… the shower/bathroom building at the Pegasus Farm Campground is one of the nicest...

Apr 10, 2008 - Gillett / Evernham Racing
From Fleetwood RV Resort at Lowe's Motor Speedway, in Concord, just north of Charlotte, North Carolina. Our final stop, at least as of the time of this writing, was the Gillett/Evernham Racing facility in Statesville, North Carolina. Ray Evernham was the crew chief for Jeff Gordon for the first several years of his career, including three of his championship years. When Dodge decided to reenter NASCAR racing a few years ago, they tapped Evernham as one of their key point men for their reentry. Like Michael Waltrip, bringing (or reentering...
