Jan 1, 2010 - Day 7 - return home

Woke up this morning to a mist settled over the countryside, filtering the sunlight, making for some lovely photos. A slight hangover dampened my spirits a little, but not enough to keep me from my coffee. A cup of joe with friends then we were on our way back home, both more than a little sad that our time there was so short and that our trip was almost over. At a gas station along the way, I spotted a tiny dog running in the field behind. He looked like a min-pin puppy. I tried to call him, but he was so afraid. The weather was so cold,...

Dec 27, 2009 - Day 2 - Colleton, SC to Roanoke Rapids, NC

Being on a deadline is not really the way to travel. Alas, when there are jobs to return to and ground to cover, it doesn't leave much time for sightseeing. Our next roadtrip, we'll have more free time to stop at destinations like the Ava Gardner museum, sites of Civil War battles, or historic plantations. But after trying to park in the dark the night before, we decided to make better time this day. As if to test our dedication to this endurance run of a road trip, snag #2 blindsided us. Just a few miles out from Colleton State Park, a...

Oct 17, 2009 - Roanoke Rapids N.Carolina

We Left Fredricksburg, Va. early this morning hoping to outrun the rain. Well, it worked. By the time we got to N.Carolina, it warmed up to 55 degrees but cloudy. We drove 155 miles and that was enough. Carolina Crossroads is a Passport America and we get 50% off our stay. This was a good time to pull over a watch some football. We took the totor out for a short drive to check out the area. Not much to see but we had a nice drive. We always stay here on our way south. It is a very clean park and it has concrete pads and all with pull thru...

Just Passing Thru.

Oct 10, 2009 - Roanoke Rapids, NC

Our stop for tonight is at the RV Resort at Carolina Crossroads (Roanoke Rapids, NC). It is close to I-95 and at a convenient location for a first night's stop. We have stayed here several times before on our trips south. Some sites now have cable TV (although rather limited). We drove to a nearby town for dinner at a Cracker Barrel restaurant before returning to our trailer for the night.

Jan 7, 2009 - Leg 2: NJ to NC - another long day

It started at 4:30 am. I awoke to drumming rainfall on the roof of the RV but then also heard a trickle of water inside. I got up to see what it was and quickly found that the toilet was overflowing...again. S*&T! This happened one other time and it was due to a sticking valve in the toilet. The water trickled in until the black water tank was full and then ran out onto the floor. This time was worse because the sewer line was not hooked up. I had to run out in the rain and hook up the sewer line, and the dump point was far from the coach...

Apr 10, 2008 - Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina

Thursday April 10…11:00pm Left Kinston this morning at about 8:30am, and sure enough, there wasn’t anybody around to collect our money. Funny system….we would have been only too happy to pay, but they don’t even provide a box or some system of paying when you arrive or leave after hours. Oh well. Turns out that the game we left early last night was the longest 9 inning game in the competitions history. It was 3 hours and 45 minutes. And, the home team did lose, although they came back a little bit 9-8. We headed to do a grocery shop, and...

Jul 17, 2006 - Monday

Well we decided to make a run for it this morning. Not looking forward to the traffic around Washington but I am confident that I can handle it. Turned out to be not bad. We continued to move as quickly as the traffic permitted. No relief from the heat and we are now using both the roof top as well as the dashboard AC. It is keeping us comfortable so we kept moving. We tried to reach Anne's cousins in Chester, VA but they were not home. We continued on to one of our favorite overnight stops, Interstate Inn & RV Park near the border between...
