Oct 25, 2012 - Jacksonville,NC
Today we did our usual drive, crossed water, and then drove some more with a different twist. We crossed water twice and needed 2 ferry rides. The first was a 40 minute free ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke Island, then a 2 hour and 15 minute ferry from Ocracoke to Cedar Island, which is connected to the mainland by causeway. Ocracoke Island is an about 9 miles long and we had to drive from the North Ferry Terminal to the South Ferry Terminal to catch the second ferry. Cedar Island is mostly swamp and wildlife preserve. The first ferry boat...

Sep 10, 2011 - Plan is coming full circle - RETIREMENT DAY!
My final day at work was September 9th. My supervisor from HQ took Gene and I to an awesome dinner at the Mainsail Resturant in Surf City, NC. Even more awesome two of my very dear friends made a surprise appearance. I was blown away by that surprise! The next day was my "retirement luncheon". At my request it was to be an informal pizza party. I am so not a fufu girl so this was so perfect and I really appreciated the office respecting my wish. I want to send out a big "THANK YOU" to all who made my retirement so special! We will be on the...

Aug 14, 2011 - Moving Day to lot 65
We are still at Cabin Creek Campground but being moved to Lot 65. This is a "permanent spot", though we will only be here until Sept 22nd at this point. Lot 65 is towards the back of the campground in what seems to be a very quiet section. We asked to stay on the current lot because there seems to be more activity here... but it is rented in September so... off we go!

Jul 18, 2010 - (Jacksonville, NC) Pre-Deployment Training July 18th-August 10th 2010
Arrived on July 18th and would spend a little over 2 weeks here prepping to deploy. Only real thing I did here was get the necessary gear. I was done in 3 days but was waiting on my clearance to go through which took a couple of weeks. Spent most of the time here recovering from a cold and didn't do much else. Was ready to move on to the next stage in the adventure.

Apr 20, 2010 - Camp Geiger, NC
We ran up to Camp Geiger in Jacksonville, North Carolina, to see our granddaughter Caree graduate from Marine Combat Training. It was a very intensive five weeks of learning to operate machine guns, rocket launchers, grenade launchers, throwing grenades and practicing urban warfare. She is now stationed at Twenty Nine Palms Marine Base, located in the Mojave Desert and attending Computer Networking School. Yeah Caree! She isn't sure how long she'll be in school or where she'll be stationed after tech school. She is doing great!

Apr 7, 2010 - Stopover in Jacksonville, NC
I continued my trip up US 17 through South Carolina into North Carolina. I stopped for gas at a small gas station because I really needed gas ($2.83/gallon) and they had this totally mechanical gas pump with a 2-digit Total Sale indicator. I filled up the tank and it was only $10.04. I wish. I tried to use that one when I paid, but the young girl was having none of it. I passed trhrough Wilmington, NC and stopped for a couple of minutes at the USS North Carolina monument. I got there too late for a visit. I'll have to add it to the to do...

Jan 21, 2008 - Virginia Beach, VA, to Camp Lejeune, NC
Greetings, all! As mentioned in our last post, our new year started out with a wedding and a brand-new son-in-law. Congrats, kids! After boarding Ollie at the veterinarian’s office, we took the Monty up to Beckley’s RV Center in Thurmont, MD, to have some warranty work done before our warranty expires in March. We drove up on a Sunday, plugged into their 30 amp receptacle, and spent the night so we could be there first thing the next morning. They had the rig until the following Saturday, so we spent time at the Cozy Inn in Thurmont, MD....
