The rain of yesterday was still with us this morning when we got up. Regardless of the foul weather we were eager to get out and do something. I think we would have been up for almost anything except hiking in the rain. We decided to drive the 25 or so miles over to Hot Springs, NC. Today was not the first time we’ve been to that tiny community. The Appalachian Trail runs right through the middle of town along the sidewalk of Bridge Street. We’ve hiked down the mountain into town and on another occasion come to town and walk up the mountain...

Scratchin' the Itch

It's been a little while since my last update, but Lu and I had to get to Fontana Dam and then through the Great Smoky Mountains. It is true what they say about the Smokies...it's hard climbing and the weather is fickle. Lu and I really were not worried about either of those two issues because both of us were worried about our health...both of us got sick one after another and had to slow down our mileage in order to recoup. We are back to our old selves again and have now completed about 280 miles which brings us to Hot Springs, NC. There...

Jun 28, 2008 - Hot Springs, NC

On the way to Hot Springs NC from Georgia, we took a very brief detour into South Carolina and made sure to set foot on SC soil. We did the official Happy Dance for the movie at the state line. Hot Springs was our destination because we will be rafting on the French Broad River the next day (the 29th). Some of the photos for this entry are from the 29th as well as the 28th. After attending church at St. James in the neighboring town of Black Mountain, Fred and I drove to Asheville to have Father’s Day Brunch at the Flying Frog. We were supposed to meet the RVers we’d met on Thursday who had recommended the restaurant to us, but they never showed up! That was OK because the brunch was excellent; we were glad they’d recommended it.
