May 10, 2013 - Miracle on the Hudson
Got to visit the airliner made famous for being landed on the Hudson River with all souls surviving. Miracle on the Hudson. It was brought down from about 3000' after striking a flock of geese. Dents (and yes, some geese blood) are visible on the fuselage though some geese were ingested by the engines, causing the demise of both. I thought the statements were interesting. ...

May 10, 2013 - Tony & Family
We stopped by Concord, NC to visit Judy's nephew (Tony) and family. We had a good visit with Tony & Michelle and the boys. We got the grand tour of their new house and the improvements they made. On Sunday (Mother's Day) they included us on a trip to pick strawberries. Yum.

May 9, 2013 - Charlotte Motor Speedway
Today we moved a little South to Concord, NC which is just North of Charlotte and home to the Charlotte Motor Speedway. We found out that you can camp there very reasonably when races are not being held. They do have a big NASCAR race there the next two weekends so things are busy. We walked over to the HUGE racetrack and took a guided tour. Saw the garages, pit road and did two laps around the track in the tour van. Really some steeply banked turns! They have 8 helicopter pads beside the track as many of the car owners and drivers live...

Apr 9, 2013 - Tom Johnson Camping Centre
Loaded up and after a short 100mi drive to Charlotte we are set up in nice place in a good location but I misread the park info and they have no Internet service so we are out of here tomorrow. Got the clothes and bedding washed tanks cleaned and the windshield gasket repaired again we will be good to go. The park is right beside the Charlotte motor speedway so have been able to listen to teams practicing all day, really sounds cool in the still of the nite. Hard to believe how the weather has changed in the short distance we have gone,...

Apr 5, 2010 - Concord, NC
We got up early this morning and watched the shuttle launch on TV. I then listened to 680 to see who won the “weather guarantee”, sadly the $35200.00 went to someone in North York. Today’s destination was Concord, North Carolina. Traveling north through Columbia, SC. the thermometer in the truck read 94 degrees. Can you believe we had to wait until South Carolina and April to really find great weather. Tonight we are staying at Tom Johnson Campground, which is just across the road from Lowes Speedway. There isn’t a tree to be found, so...

May 6, 2009 - First Stop- Concord, NC
After a couple of nights on the road we're back where we began in October, 2007- in Concord, North Carolina. Time for medical check-ups and tax prep. The best part of our time in Concord will be visits with Jim's son Jarrad and his wife Brandi who moved here from Ohio several months before we sold our house here and began living on the road. Talk about timing! In addition to visits with Jarrad and Brandi, unexpected pleasures have been visits by my son Thad who was on the move from Central America (via Gilford, New Hampshire) to Denver,...

Oct 27, 2008 - The Inaugural Carolina Nationals at the ZMax Dragway at Lowes Motor Park in Concord, NC
One last stop before we head back to Florida for the winter- to Concord for doctors appointments AND attending the Inaugural Carolina Nationals at the ZMax Dragway with Jarrad and Brandi! Jim and Jarrad have attended the Nationals drags at a dragway east of Columbus, Ohio on I-70 near Newark where Jarrad grew up every year since Jarrad was three years old. A couple of years ago the Nationals removed that dragway from the annual schedule. Then Bruton Smith decided to add the ZMax Dragway at Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord to his racing...

Apr 20, 2008 - It's Almost All Business in Concord
We're been in Concord, North Carolina for the last two weeks. Honestly, not the most pleasant two weeks of the last six months. After multiple doctor appointments, investment banker appointments, and CPA appointments (tax time, you know), we're ready to be unappointed. Oh, yes. Our physical health is good, our retirement investments are fair, and we've given Uncle Sam what he considers his fair share. So we're done here! Life does go on even when you don't have a physical address. But NOT without a little excitement- some good and some not...

Apr 4, 2008 - Lowe's Motor Speedway
Lowe’s Motor Speedway was surely a great experience. We stayed right at the camp ground for Lowe’s. It is a 460 + camp ground, full hook-up. They are building a drag strip in back of the camp ground. Had fun watching the iron workers do their job. Just 3 miles from the camp ground was Rousch Racing team shop. We visited that in the morning. Saw all of Rousches cars and trophies. What a complex he has. Saw the shop where they build the cars, really neat. Also watched the pit crew practice, 14 seconds and all 4 tires are change. After that,...

Apr 4, 2008 - Auto Fair
From Fleetwood RV Resort at Lowe's Motor Speedway, in Concord, just north of Charlotte, North Carolina. The Auto Fair (see previous entry) was scheduled to be open Friday, Saturday & Sunday, but knowing that rains were forecast for Saturday & having been told that the exhibitors would be drifting out during the day on Sunday, we decided to take our chances that Friday would be the best day for us to attend. The weather Friday was a bit cool & gloomy, but still it seemed to be the day to go. We had been told that there would be exhibitors...

Apr 2, 2008 - The 'Frig & Toilet
From Fleetwood RV Resort at Lowe's Motor Speedway, in Concord, just north of Charlotte, North Carolina. The 7:15 alarm came early. Actually, it came late. Don’t you just hate it when you know that you have to get up earlier than you normally do, so you set your alarm clock, & then wake-up before the alarm even goes off?? That was what happened to us. Knowing that the fifteen minutes or so until the alarm would go off blocked any thoughts of dozing off? We looked at each other & said “let’s do it”, so we got up & got going on preparing to...

Nov 26, 2007 - We Leave for Florida Tomorrow!
Our motorhome has been parked at the rv park across from Lowes Motor Speedway for almost three weeks now. During that period we have made two trips to Marion, Virginia by car. First trip was to bring Dad home from assisted living to spend the weekend in Marion. My brothers and I take turns and try to get him home every weekend. Marion's Christmas parade was a lot of fun that weekend! Second trip was for Thanksgiving. Eating was good at a Cracker Barrel on Thanksgiving Day and a BIG family meal on Saturday (compliments of Dad, Aunt Lois, and...
